Located in the plaza next to Trader Joe's (convenient and clutch), parking was effortless with ample spaces plus valet. We were immediately greeted by two hosts with genuine, big smiles, which set the tone for the entire evening. We also had the pleasure of meeting the chef, mixologist, and general manager--a personal touch that truly elevated the experience. Our evening was a full-on culinary journey. We enjoyed oysters, shrimp, newly crafted cocktails and bold wines, crab cakes, Hamachi crudo, poached king crabs, halibut, and yes--all of the desserts!!!! Every single one of them. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and somehow better than the last. The oysters were incredibly fresh, the fish was flawless, and the balance of flavors throughout the meal was spot on. There is a chef-tasting menu--which we didn't experience this time--but after this meal, it's absolutely happening on our next visit. Out of town visitor from Southern California visited on a Tuesday. He dined at the bar. He came with stone crab intentions. He inquired about the claws and told they were available in Large size, freshly delivered on that Tuesday and were available at $40 for the half order. He obliged and excitement grew as he waited. The claws were substantially a great value! Six rich and meaty arrived with dipping sauces all layered on top of a bed of ice with lemon to accent. After great crab handling display and meat consumption the gentleman sat back and relished, but the chill of the claws had him feeling a bit cold, fingers cold to any touch. As an anecdote to the chill he rested himself with a warm bowel of lobster bisque. The bisque was warming and delectable. A creamy sherry flavored broth was the bow or the evening. I knew when I walked in to my favorite Orlando spot that we've been dining at for a few years, that something was off. The limited seafood selection in the window was the first red flag. The Hostesses and our server Natalia were gracious. Unfortunately, the menu was changed, that was another red flag. We we're advised that there was new "French Chef"...and I'm using the term loosely. The changes to the menu omitted alot of our seafood dishes that we once enjoyed. We actually considered leaving at that moment and I wished we had. Against our better judgment we stayed. We already had ordered drinks, so we opted to give the new menu a chance. We started with the shrimp cocktail. Nothing out of this world. The shrimp were not cooked well and tasted more of chlorine. The platter of ice it was served on reeked so much of an old bait bucket that it overpowered your senses. The silverware reek of the same obnoxious smell. Fortunately, it was only my set. We ordered a Paella and a Grilled Trio. The Paella was hardly edible. It contained NO fish and if you like Uncle Ben's Rice and chicken wings on the bone in your Paella your in for a treat. Not to mention the rotten clam full of mud mix in the center! It was a insult to this spanish delicacy. The Grilled Trio was a disaster. On the first attempt all the food with the exception of the au gratin was COLD. The Mgr John addressed the table issues and came back with a fresh order of the same. The meat now cooked to temperature was still not edible. The meat was minerally tasting and tough, it lacked seasoning. The sauces that occupied the steak tasted like plastic. A good stand alone steak doesn't need to be drowned in sauces. In the meantime the "chef" came out with extreme arrogance and questioned my palate. When we spoke to the Mgr about the second incident the chef once again came out of the woodwork to interrogate me. We tried to de-escalate and move on but this guy ("chef ") insisted on making a scene at our table. He is no Jacques Pépin and if he was, I'm sure he would Politely take any critic This guy though needs to stay behind the scenes and out of the public eye. He has no business interacting with the public He had no idea who he was interrogating. The Chef is going to sink this place. I haven't been in a while and miss some of their other dishes (I believe there was some sort of cookie dessert and sea bass) but still loved my time there! I've enjoyed dinners at Big Fin countless times over the years! Most recently, my twin sister and I celebrated our birthday there this past Friday. The menu has changed since last year, and while we hope certain staple items return, like steamed clams or mussels, we had a wonderful time. Jeremy, our server, was great! He was funny, making us laugh with good banter, and attentive, checking on us and making sure we felt taken care of without feeling crowded. We would definitely request Jeremy to be our server next time as well! A couple times throughout our meal as well, the manager stopped by our table to check on us and wish us a happy birthday which was really great. He was genuine and kind. To drink, I chose a glass of Albariño, Senda Verde, Galicia, Spain. It was delicious! To eat, my family and I shared several things: stone crab claws (which were incredibly well priced!), cioppino, Today's boat to table feature: African Pompano fish, and a Caesar salad. The stone crab was amazing as always! So much meat! The Cioppino was rich and flavorful with a nice broth we dipped our bread into. The African pompano was special and tasty as well! As for the Caesar, the dressing was great and I enjoyed the breadcrumbs, but over all, we agreed we would prefer a more classic Caesar. My twin sister and I were also allowed to pick two deserts which were on the house! We chose the pineapple upside down cake and the caramel apple bomb! Arrived here for our anniversary. Greeted by the waiter who was excellent. Ordered a ceaser salad which was great and my husband calamari to start. His calamari was good, until we found a long black hair on his calamari. The waiter promptly contacted the manager who came out and attempted to make things right by comping our meal , offering the meals to go and dessert but with the damage was done. My recent diagnosis of an autoimmune disorder made it critical that we clean up our eating habits. Cooking at home is easy but eating out is challenging, especially at a place like Big Fin that offers such a creative menu. On our reservation I indicated that I have food sensitivities and cannot have gluten sugar or dairy. When we arrived, our waiter Mike immediately suggested menu items that could be tweaked to meet my needs. While I was still being blown away by this, Chef David walked out to join our conversation. I was so impressed by their kindness and true interest in what I needed to remain safe and healthy. I had the grilled swordfish with brussies and green beans. This fish. This fish was simply the best piece of fish I've ever had. It was absolutely succulent, literally melting in my mouth. Wow. Chef took great care to make sure my meal was prepared cleanly and checked on me a few times to make sure I was ok. Hubs had the sea bass over coconut rice which arrived in a gorgeous blown glass shell shaped dish. He said it was just terrific; buttery, tender and flakey. Went for Happy Hour with friends and sat near the bar. Restaurant was kind of empty and decor was basic. We order a few of the Happy Hour appetizers (Golden shrimp, calamari, crab cake, and Oysters). Golden shrimp and calamari were delicious. Oysters were fresh. Crab cake was meh, lots of filling, not lotta of crab meat. The bar filled up quickly so service was a got pretty slow but the bartender was friendly. It probably would be helpful to have more than one bartender or server during happy hour. I always scour all the Magical Dining Month menus every year to see who's putting forth effort into attracting new business and who's just phoning it in and putting chicken and pork tenderloin dishes on the menu to check a box. Well, Big Fin Seafood made it into my top five this year, so we made reservations and in we came. The outside was confounding. I don't have a lot of experience in this part of town, but it was in a strip mall that was very fancy, but also a depressing ghost town. Interesting. The inside, however, was very fun and grandiose. Giant ceilings covered with seafood art, a nice little oyster and seafood window when you walk in, and a big spinning Scarface-esque globe in the middle of everything. Great ambiance. The service was also nice. I forget her name, but she was very friendly, kept my bread and butter flowing, and knew the wine list pretty well. I appreciated her service. As for the food, we both got the Magical Dining menu and shared. Apps: Grilled Florida Shrimp (ponzu beurre blanc, grilled lime, crispy onion). Perfectly cooked, huge shrimps, the sauce was one of the best sauces I've had in a long time. I sopped up every drop with the bread. And the crispy onion was great for a little texture. Smoked Florida Blue Crab Dip (red pepper jam, sesame lavosh). This was good. It was actually like 90% crab in this dip, I wasn't mad, and the jam added a little kick of brightness. I kind of wish there had been more of it. Mains: Salmon Rockefeller (roasted salmon, bacon & rockefeller crust, green beans). This was the dish of the meal for us. Salmon was a nice big filet, cooked well, and slathered with a magical Rockefeller concoction. Very creamy and bright with spinach. It also came with a an unlisted side item of little roasted potatoes. It was just an excellent dish. It's the reason I bumped this place up from for to five stars, honestly. Big Fin Swordfish - Fort Pierce (blackened 14 oz. center cut fillet, citrus brown butter, crispy capers, potato puree & steamed asparagus). Wow. So good. A very hearty swordfish steak that was proudly caught in local Fort Pierce, and it was cooked to perfection, not dry at all, yet seared very well. Capers on top to add those needed pops of salt, just really yummy. And desserts: Florida Key Lime Pie (fresh house made). Standard. Nothing too extraordinary about this pie. Pineapple Upside Down Cake (tableside flambe). Also nothing too crazy about this dessert. This place focused on and excelled at the savory stuff, that's ok. But know that they pour a large amount of booze on this, and the fire does not cook it all out, so make sure your DD isn't a lightweight if they eat this. We never got our complimentary bread that it seemed like other tables had got to start with and it took another ~10 minutes to get waters. We had plenty of time to figure out what to order and soon enough, our food began rolling out. The Maryland Style Crab Cakes were small but were made with real crab and were surprisingly tasty. I really enjoyed the Mardi Gras Oysters but the Rockefeller Oysters were overwhelming with cheese. I know it's a key ingredient but it just took away from everything else. The Jumbo Fried Shrimp was fresh, crispy, fried golden, and the fries were addicting. The Little Fin Seafood Platter seemed like a good idea but honestly, I only really enjoyed the oysters which were super fresh, plump, and mild in flavor. The shrimp cocktail were also decent but everything else was absolutely disappointing. It seems like they do a great job with the raw seafood but most other dishes can be skipped, in my opinion. Had a new server/waiter although very pleasant did not know the menu or how dishes were prepared. My friend and I came in for National oyster day. We made reservations for 7 PM in the main dining area but we ended up having to sit at the bar because they were out of seating. We went because we saw that they were doing raw oysters for $1 and oyster Rockefeller for $1.50. I try not to eat raw oysters for health reasons. However, when we arrived they informed us that they were not doing the oyster Rockefeller and that the ad had been a mistake. A couple we talked to said they were told it's because they ran out. It felt a bit like a bait and switch. We ended getting a drink and crab cakes to share. The crab cakes were very good, just be aware it only comes with 2. However, it took between 45 minutes to an hour for the crabcakes to come out. Apparently the kitchen was incredibly backed up. While, our server was very good about informing us of everything, not once did they ever ask us if we wanted to order any food. The whole thing just felt very unorganized. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Doctor Phillips. I love the Australian lobster tail, stuffed or topped with a crabcake with the brussels sprouts and the fingerling potatoes. It's huge and very satisfying. Usually, I can only eat half and I take the other half home. Worth every penny. The manager introduced himself to us and he was very likable. I've never had a bad meal there and really love the swordfish too. Everything on the menu is good. I don't know what I'll try next, but I want to try something different. The ambience is nice and some of my friends rave about their happy hour. I like to eat a real meal and not little bar food appetizers though. But they do have a nice exterior. The service is excellent. If you're looking for a good seafood house look no further than Big Fin. It is in Dellagio across from Regions Bank a little to the left of Fred Astaire dance studio next to Flemmings. They have valet parking but you can park in the bank parking lot. I had grouper and my girlfriend had the fish of the day which I don't remember what it was but that was awesome so everything was wonderful especially the fact that Boat table meaning everything was caught by local fisherman and brought to the restaurant basically within 48 hours from catch to my stomach. We went to Big Fin recently for our friend's birthday and generally, had a good time. Please note, we've been to Big Fin in the past so unfortunately, I'm comparing my experience to our previous visits. In general, the ambiance hasn't changed, and it's really not what I come to the restaurant for. Each time I've been, it's been with other people, and it's not really somewhere I crave or "need" to go to. Moving on, the service experience we had was ok. Initially, they were attentive, brought us drinks quickly, etc. The drinks were ok, a few of us ordered martinis, and others old-fashioned. My drink was warm, and the bartender must have noticed me putting ice cubes in my drink, as she later came back to the table to comment on it not looking like I was enjoying my drink. I don't like to make a big deal about things, so I just gave her the feedback and said it was fine now that I added the ice. Nothing else happened from that, but we stuck to wine after. As for the food, I was pleased with what we all ordered. There were a few of us so we got some sushi rolls, calamari, and the carpaccio. Of the three varieties, I definitely enjoyed the sushi and would honestly come back for that. For dinner, my friend and I decided to split an entrée (too many appetizers), and I feel like we got a weird reaction from the server when we ordered. At most "fine dining" restaurants that I've been to, they'll split the plate for you, but not here. We're fully capable of doing it ourselves, but for a restaurant that classifies itself as a "fine dining" restaurant...just split the plate of food in the kitchen please. We all were super full from the food we ordered, so we opted out of dessert. The birthday was not acknowledged, and we received a farewell and the check pretty quickly. We weren't there very long, but it definitely felt like we were being rushed when the restaurant was not even busy. Overall, we left comfortable by the food, but there's nothing that the restaurant has that's really wanting me to go back. Very nice dining experience for my good friend's birthday. The reservation process was simple and I liked the automated confirmation and reminder. We started the evening at the outdoor patio bar and enjoyed a cocktail with raw bar selections. The bar staff were amazing. Friendly, helpful, available and the setting was beautiful. After cocktails we adjourned to the dining room for our meal. Our server, Raymond, gave a great opening schpiel (is that a word?) and the service he provided deteriorated from there. His level of service is the only reason this is not a 5 star review. The meal was wonderful. We both had chowder. She had lamb chops & lobster. I had filet medallions and trout. All done perfectly. OH MY!!! The disappoint. I have been a fan of Big Fin for so many years but tonight's visit has changed that. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that they recently went under new management and that's the worst thing that could've happened for them. My husband was ordered his usual Fried Snapper meal but it was totally different than it used to be. That wouldn't have been a problem if it was good but there was no seasoning at all. I ordered the Grouper and it was not seasoned and it was overcooked. To make matters worse, they served us coconut rice that wasn't cooked but offered to replace it. We accepted to get the replacement rice and the manager came out with plain white rice but didn't have the decency to even tell us. He then proceeded to tell us he bought out plain white rice because it was the "best rice" they had available. I LOVE this place! I have lobster every birthday, and this is my go-to place, not only then, but I love to bring friends here. They NEVER let me down. The selection of fresh seafood is incredible, and the display of it as you walk into the dining room really whets your appetite! The staff are friendly and are very accommodating, and even the couple of minor issues I have had here have been rectified in short order. Another thing I really like is the Daily Fresh Fish options, I feel like I am in a big city like New York or San Francisco. Plus, a lot of the fish is locally sourced, making it even fresher and local! Our waiter was Scott, there was a group of 8 for a 50th birthday celebration. Swordfish was outstanding, cooked perfectly. Crab legs where good as well. Crab cake appetizer was a little less then expected but still good. House salad was good but skip the pecans that come with. (They were hard and to sweet) the dressing was good.
