A lovely small eatery for fish and chips! Classic b&w checkered flooring with good seating and cafe tables. I shared breaded Alaskan Pollock with a couple pieces of fried zucchini and onion. These were large fish pieces! The chips or fresh French fries were well sized and delicious. Everything is fried fresh and well done. Ketchup and tartar sauce bottles are on the side as dips or toppings, as well as vinegar at the table. This was a fun dine in experience for a nice quick bite. Perhaps food can also be taken out at Portal Park nearby.

The fish was excellent, very fresh and crispy. The prawns were pretty good. The fries were nice, traditional with chips. I also got the onion rings (and the threw in a zucchini). Both I would recommended. Will be back with the wifey!

Great fish & fried mushrooms. This place is really good. They need our neighborhood business!

Big Fish on Folsom Blvd is one of those spots that quietly overdelivers. First of all -- the ranch dressing deserves its own paragraph. I don't know what they're putting in it, but it's hands down some of the best ranch I've had at a restaurant. Creamy, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and somehow good on everything. I was dipping fries, hush puppies, broccoli...basically anything I could justify. The fried food is where they really shine. Everything has that ultra-crispy, golden crunch on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. You can taste the Asian-inspired flavors in the seasoning and sauces -- bold, savory, slightly sweet, and seriously addictive. It's comfort food but elevated with really well-balanced flavors. The customer service was top tier. The staff was genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming. Not rushed, not distracted -- just good, solid hospitality. Made me feel like I was being cooked for at someone's house. You can tell they care about the experience as much as the food. Great flavors, amazing ranch, and awesome service. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

Seen there was new owners again. I came here when it was rhetorical OG Cape Cod. Cape cod was king!! Then it became PJ's fish and chips but PJ's sucked more than BJ's IYKYK. Big fish was good but there was a few things I didnt like. The fish was good it was well battered, the flavor was there but.... The fish was a cheaper quality. Alaskan pollack instead of Cod. The pieces of fish were small af. They gave me a big onion ring and some zucchini slices with my order. The fries looked a lil too brown, maybe they were double fried. We had to go ask for forks we had to go ask for lemons. The lemons were nasty they were in a container that looked like it was on the fridge for the past week. They were slimy yet dry if that makes sense. The customer service was alright, the guy taking the order spoke very little English so it was hard for him to understand my questions and my order. The vibe in there was chill, it wasnt to bright, when we first got there it was dead but I guess we brought business cuz it got busy quick. Besides the Alaskan Pollack fish they also had catfish as an option. The calamari that I ordered was also good but they cut em in a different way that i'd never seen they were like little scoops. I'd be back to try it again, it's no Cape COD thats for sure. If u never had cape cod then ur good cuz u wont be comparing them to each other. Bring ur own lemon, if they can get fresher ones then they should step their game up. The fish quality too step that up cuz Alaskan Pollack always feel chewy.

Onion rings (about 1/2 the order)

Super clean and owner(s) very nice. We ordered (poetions were generous/huge): 1) 9 piece fish & chips for a group -5/5. Very yum. Oil and fish were both fresh. Came out of fryer super crispy and perfecrly cooked - not greasy (fries were good too); 2) onion rings - 5/5 maybe best i have had; 3) lumpia - 5/5 also very good; 4) oysters -4/5 very good; 5) zucchini - 5/5 very good. The tartar sauce and cocktail sause super good The fish was alaskan pollak. Super delicate fish and thw owners know how to handle it.

Big Fish has a wide variety of food such as kimchi, to plates with crispy fish and teriyaki. There's definitely something for everyone and you do not need to just get the fish although I highly recommend it because it's fantastic! The service is fast and easy. The restaurant is clean inside with plenty of seating at the counter or the tables. Placing an order is easy with the kind customer service and you get your order in a reasonable amount of time. I plan to come back again to try more things on the menu. I highly suggest you check this place out!

Located between Goodwill and Round Table in East Sacramento on Folsom Blvd is Big Fish. Formerly PJ's Fish & Chips Diner. New owner. New name. New look. Drinks are self-serve after purchasing. Decor is casual, modern and updated. I ordered the 2-piece Combo and extra Zucchinis. The fish is fresh and melted in my mouth. Onion Rings were delicious and the Zucchinis were a must have for me to go with my fish and chips. Condiments are available upon request: Malt Vinegar, Ketchup, Tartar Sauce, Cocktail and Ranch The portions were generous and I couldn't finish everything. I can't wait to return to try the other items on the menu! Highly recommend Big Fish if you're craving for some amazing fish and chips!

Delicious as always. Just saw that they recently added some new items to the menu! Ordered a Chicken Teriyaki, Fish n Chips, Onion Rings, and calamari. The chicken was moist and flavorful!! It also came with rice and a salad that was quite delicious. Fish n chips were as good as always. Onion rings and calamari appetizer were a big hit with our group as well! The staff were friendly and attentive as always making sure our food was to our tastes and that we had plenty of condiments to go along with our food. I really like their tartar sauce and the malt vinegar goes well with the fish. They recently added some beer choices so I really enjoyed an ice cold coors to go with my food! Can't wait to go back again!

4 with a caveat. The place is clean. The service is lovely. The food is serviceable - but - not a go back for us. Perhaps my bar is high. I grew up on New Hampshire seacoast fried cod or haddock. This fish was tasteless. The batter overwhelmed the fish and was mushy on the underside, indicating it's not fully cooked. The white sauce in a squeeze container is definitely NOT tartar sauce by any side by side comparison. Fries are decent. On the plus side, a generous slice of deep fried zucchini plus a single onion ring is nice. In the "no" column is a teensy container of coleslaw for $2. They are trying, and I don't want to tank their score, hence 4 stars. Personal preference is no return. To each their own.

Perfectly season with a nice crunch, and the fish was good as well. The beer on the other hand didn't taste good. I probably just got a beer I'm not interested in. I typically like pilsners and was surprised how light this beer tasted. Overall service was good and food. I would recommend coming here if you want an authentic English experience.

I had my heart set on one of the vegetarian pasties they used to have, but I knew it was a holiday so what was available was going to not be the regular thing. I don't come often enough to even know what's regular anymore. I don't eat meat, but I did have my Guinness so no harm done. I really like the choices of seating, between tables and chairs, the bar, booths, stools, benches, and outdoors. It can get pretty busy, but never so much that I've ever felt boxed in. There's a bit of a bottleneck to get a drink as the path to get past the bar is narrow, but staff are really great at working through those requests quickly. So, basically this is my go to if someone suggests a pub atmosphere. Every day. Ok not every day, but I had to throw that in ;-) They don't have a full bar, only wine and beer. Parking is typical East Sac, street parking, no meters. Bathrooms have character.

It's a small place however there are plenty of tables and kept tidy. The staff are quick to clear up tables for other guests. Although there are posted signs for guests to help clear their own baskets and tables, not all guests are courteous and disciplined enough to do so (booo!!!). There's ample parking though it can get full especially during peak times. This spot has very good fried fish! And their fish and chips combo meals are reasonably priced. I usually order the 3 piece fish combo ($16.50) or 1 piece with 4 prawns ($14). Served with 2 containers of tartar sauce and additional is only $0.50 each. Vinegar is offered though you'd have to request for it. The staff are always courteous and very efficient. You are handed a table top number when you order and they will bring your order to your table when it's ready, for both dine-in or to go orders. Ocean is my go to spot for fish and chips so will definitely be back again very soon.

We try someone differnt every time we come. This time we tried the Cottage Pie, also know as a Sheppard's Pie. It was really good. A little more soupy than the one I made at home, but it's good and perfect for the cold weather. We also had a half order of the fish and chips.
