We ordered at the window and a majority of the seating on the covered plank walkway were taken. There was also a large seating area behind the establishment with many picnic tables and shade.... I've eaten here twice now in the last couple months and it doesn't disappoint! There are tables out front, inside, as well as a whole patio behind the building. Food comes out pretty quickly and they're very organized! The fish and chips plate is fried perfectly, and I love the big side of tartar sauce that they give. They also have other options besides fish and chips, even burgers that are actually pretty decent! I was in Old Sacramento and wanted a quick bite so I stopped at Railroad Fish & Chips. The line moved quickly and it took about 10 minutes to get my order. There are plenty of outdoor seating available in front and back. When ordering, the cashier asked if it's for dine in or take out. It was explained to me that the difference between the two is that take out will be in foldable boxes. I opted for take out even though I was eating there in case I had to take home leftovers. I later noticed on my receipt that there's an extra charge for those containers. Do say dine in to avoid the fees if you don't need the food in boxes if eating there. I ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl. The clam chowder came in a separate container which I actually preferred since it kept the bread bowl from getting soggy. I just tore pieces of the bread and dipped it into the chowder. There wasn't large clumps of clam which is actually how I prefer my clam chowder. The kids had chicken tender and fries. The chicken tenders were really thin which made it even crispier. The food wasn't salty which I very much preferred. It was a nice warm meal on a cold winter night. read more
