    Onion rings
    R S.

We ordered our food this evening and took it home, started eating it like 30 minutes later. The tenders and the onion rings stayed crispy! We ordered the spicy version of the tenders, it has a sweet spicy flavor. The heat builds up and it stays with you. The tenders were not dry at all and they were very decently sized! Onion rings have a really nice batter. My hubs really liked the gogo sauce, we dipped everything in it. The young lady at the counter was very sweet and helpful. Next time we are definitely going to try the rice bowls, we love korean fried rice and the chicken mayo rice sounds interesting.

The chicken was impossibly tender on the inside with a crispy, flavorful crust that had just the right amount of heat. You can tell they're not cutting corners -- every bite felt intentional. The vibe alone is worth the visit -- hip-hop energy, retro games, and a staff that clearly takes pride in what they're putting out. This isn't fast food. This is a whole experience. If you're sleeping on this spot, wake up. Hotboys is doing something special.

The food: I enjoyed the food. Chicken had a light batter and a good crunch. Not sure what about it but it got soggy fast. Bread soaked up so much sauce. The money sauce was great! Loved it. Problems with ordering: need a bigger menu or bigger writing. Person taking orders needs to speak louder or use a microphone. Couldn't hear anything over the music. The biggest con: They have heat levels. But anything above medium+ cost $1 extra and they don't tell you. I saw it pop up when he rang me up and I declined. I took medium +. You're a hot chicken joint. Why are you charging for spice? That's ridiculous when it's already $16 for sando and fries.

Our usual fare is a box of dark meat, pieces of 8 for just under $18. Always good in the past, except for this time it was so bad. How bad? We will never come here or any other Krispy Krunchy again. It's just not worth making the drive home, then expecting to sit down to a enjoyably tasty meal after we take care of feeding our dogs and then end up getting sick over it. Not the nauseous throw up kind. The oil irritated my wife's throat and caused her to get a scratchy throat the next day and made her sick. As soon as I got one bite in, I realized a fishy smell, the breading was hard, fused to the meat and the meat itself was dried out. Now mind you, this is dark meat which is supposed to be way tenderer and juicier than white meat. My wife used to work at KFC years ago and she knew that one of the issues was it was cooked in old oil. The other issue was this was old chicken (cooked days prior) that has been sitting under the warming lamps for way too long. We love to support the private and small business operators but we expect to get what a professional food business advertises, good food and won't get us sick from their negligence in straying from their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). That means knowing when to dump the old oil and use fresh oil. The other is to throw out meat when it's no longer suitable for human consumption. For us, it's KFC here from now on. I've never been so disappointed from getting food from a gas station. This is from a person who loves the hot dogs at 7-11. I have also bought many times home cooked Tacos and Tamales from a gas station and never have been disappointed in all my years of driving 40+ years into a gas station. You've been warned...

My mother wanted to treat my husband and me to a late lunch, and because we were looking for a good fish restaurant, we decided to try Skip's Fish and Chicken. We placed an online order for delivery that included a 3-piece fish meal with deep-fried pickles, two fish baskets (one with fried okra and prawns, the other with deep-fried pickles and mac and cheese), three fried corn-on-the-cobs, and three banana puddings. After spending nearly $150, most of the meal ended up in the trash. The biggest problem was the excessive amount of salt. Everything we tasted--except the banana pudding--was overwhelmingly salty. It seemed as though the food had been salted multiple times after frying. The fish, prawns, sides, and even the vegetables were so heavily seasoned that they were virtually inedible. We could only manage a bite or two of most items before having to stop eating them. The kitchen should simply taste the food before it leaves the restaurant because this level of oversalting is impossible to miss. The fried corn on the cob was particularly unpleasant. When I bit into it, a liquid unexpectedly gushed into my mouth. Combined with the mushy texture, it was revolting. Of everything we ordered, that item was by far the most off-putting. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that we genuinely wanted to like this restaurant. Instead, nearly every item we ordered was ruined by poor preparation and excessive salt. Food should be enjoyable, not something customers worry might make them sick. The only item I found edible was the banana pudding, and even that was mediocre. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant meals I have ever received, and I cannot recommend Skip's Fish and Chicken based on our experience.

The restaurant itself also has a nice, old-school Chinese feel that adds to the experience. That said, there is a serious packaging issue that needs attention. The food is served extremely hot, and for takeout it is packed in styrofoam containers. In some cases, the heat is so intense that it causes the containers to warp or even melt through at the bottom. This raises concerns about food safety and materials leaching into the food, especially given how hot the items are served. On one occasion, I noticed the container had partially fused to the breading of a chicken dish, and I could actually taste what seemed to be the styrofoam. While I understand styrofoam is common for takeout, I would strongly encourage a switch to more heat-resistant and safer alternatives, such as waxed paper-lined or higher-grade containers, especially for very hot dishes. Overall, the food and service are excellent, but the packaging choice takes away from an otherwise great experience.

The restaurant in my opinion was a whole vibe, from the people to the music. Although I had just finished water rafting and looked a mess, I was still greeted as soon as I walked in. The resturant was very clean and it had a lot of beautiful art around. The owner was actively engaging with customers, which added a personal touch. The menu was definitely overwhelming lol but not in a bad way, their was just so many options I didn't even know what directions to go. I started eyeing people plates and it seemed everyone had something different but it all looked good. I went with fried party wings, cat fish , yams, Mac and cheese , greens and of course some cornbread on the side. From the flavorful seasoned with the perfect crisp wings to the perfectly sweetened yams and homemade cornbread. The mac and cheese tasted like it came straight from Auntie's kitchen lol, listen to me ....even the root beer was good, creole soul y'all did NOT DISAPPOINT and I will be back for that crab and garlic butter noodles.
