Whether it's legally permissible or not, adopting the name of a beloved local business creates the impression of continuity and goodwill that this restaurant didn't build. Longtime customers associate "Bud's" with a very specific tradition, and using that name for an unrelated restaurant feels like an attempt to benefit from decades of someone else's reputation rather than earning one of its own. Sacramento has a rich restaurant history. Those legacies deserve respect, not repurposing as marketing. If you're going to revive a legendary name, honor what made it legendary.
