I was here after class on May 6th Thursday, and had this craving for some snacks. I didn't mind having Popcorn Chicken for snacks and this place was it! Having never been to Big G, I thought it was a good opportunity to try this place. My food came freshly cooked. Popcorn chicken were tender and yummy. Besides it wasn't TOO greasy in my personal opinion. Price was steep for a small size of Popcorn Chicken ($8.99). I think there was 1 or 2 outdoor tables available. I did not realize it sells more than just fried chicken. You can have it with rice or noodles too. I had the mini chicken steak and it was made to order. As it was after the lunch hour, it was done in 5 minutes or so. It was boneless which made eating easy. There were several pieces. I lost count after my 7th piece. It was not that tiny, definitely bigger than chicken nuggets. I like the original seasoning which was tasty. Not too salty. I had it to go and they were still crispy after an hour. Now that I know it can come with rice or noodles, I will come back again in future. read more

I like this place. Came in around 6pm and it was empty. There are only two tables anyway. The chicken is crispy and good. If they had a spicy version, I'd kick this review to 5. Not sure about the price complaints. I guess it's expensive but I was happy with my order. The service was fast and the server was very polite. Will return. read more

The picture outside is so mouth watering I had to try it but I was quite disappointed. The food is pricey given its a whole in the wall fast food like place. The jumbo chicken steak took awhile to make and was alright. Nothing special. Same with the 2 pc chicken with Taiwanese rice. Something I can cook. Their chicken is very average. I remember trying these ginormous fried chicken steaks at the Richmond Night Market one year. It's nice to see them venture out to brick and mortar locations in Richmond and now, in downtown Vancouver. Opted for the boneless chicken bites, yam fries, regular fries, fried oyster mushrooms and fried squid balls. The chicken was quite tasty, not too oily. The batter had a mix of spice and sweetness. The meat was juicy and tender - kicked up chicken nuggets! Hand cut fries and yam fries were crispy and tender. Table fave were the fried oyster mushrooms, unique and umami. The squid balls were nice, but needed a condiment other than ketchup or sweet n spicy sauce. Very friendly staff. The price point is ok, but on the higher end all things considered. The scissors used to cut the chicken fell on the dirty ground and the staff just picked it back up and used it to cut the chicken! The food itself was typical for Taiwanese-style fried chicken except it's large. You may have to wait a while for your food as ours took half an hour. read more

Can't give it 4 stars, as it wasn't outstanding, but I also don't understand why people are giving this place 1's and 2's. It's not bad at all, it's quite good actually. It was my first time trying Taiwanese fried chicken steak. The chicken was not dry, and the coating was flavourful - I just got the salt and pepper. Next time, I would try more flavours. The yam fries were very good as well. I agree that the price is not cheap, but it's also not outrageous. Vancouver is expensive people! I will say that I disagree with the people saying that the chicken steak is enough for 2 people to split. We split it between two people and both of us were hungry. I ordered the chunky fried chicken steak with bbq sauce and hot sauce on the side for my first experience at Big G because I don't like bones in my meat if I can avoid it. Food: 4 stars for taste because it was it was good and hot and crispy and the meat was juicy Service: 4 stars because it's basically a takeout spot but the server was nice. Experience: 3 stars because it didn't rock my world and it wasn't great value. And the 10 minute wait was a bit lengthy for what the return was. I wasted too much money here, not because it was good, because I was foolish to get caught in their scam. The chicken they sell is decently good chicken but it's so overpriced it's insane. The chicken is also every salty so each piece I was dying for water. It's a nice crispness and taste but it's just so salty. The mini chicken steaks are fine but for $10 it's a hefty price for a couple pieces so chicken. The chicken is also on the thin side so if you're looking for something resembling a chicken nugget this is gonna be like it's flattened cousin. Popcorn chicken pieces were too small. Some of the pieces were ok sized but the smaller ones were borderline dry. I don't think I will go here again honestly. read more

I don't understand how this kind of business can ever grow or even just exist. Vancouver keeps surprising me. I mean, the staff is great. The food is Absolutely Terrible. Not a little bad. Really bad. The second worst I've ever had in Vancouver. The chicken is bad. It's marinated in stuff I don't like, it gives it a weird texture. It's very sweet. I repeat, it's very sweet. It's unhealthy useless sugar. The first bites I thought I was eating bad candy. I wish well for the owners and the staff but I hope this kind of shops just cease to exist. It's so bad. Please just go out of business. The wait time was very long, it's the slowest and the most expensive fast food place I've ever been to. McDonald's, which is not good by my standards, is a thousand times better. If everything was free and easy access and with no wait time, I would still never go back there. The only reason I'm not giving a single star is because the staff was nice. Do I regret spending almost $30? Yes. I wish I never had to write this review. I wish I never knew about that place and its food. The fries... they're worse than frozen fries, by my standards. They're even worse than soft cold McDonald's fries. What came first, the beaver tail or the fried chicken steak? I didn't have a chance to try these in Taiwan but the closest I'd say it tasted like is the Taiwanese popcorn chicken which I would pick over the steak. I got the original salt and pepper which oddly doesn't include a sauce for free. You are limited to a Heinz pump but you can't really dip it. I was warned there was bones, but it was only at the end, nothing to worry about choking on. Taste was fine but it just doesn't cut it as a meal. Needs something else with it to satisfy. read more

For $16-ish, and after a 20 minute wait, this is what you get: An OK, not great, fried chicken steak with a fair bit of bones in it (I had been warned). Tasted kinda bland. A pop. A smallish bucket of not great fries. Now, the part that really annoyed me is that I had ordered a hot sauce sauce chicken, a $0.75 upgrade over base salt and pepper chicken. The price is fine. What's less fine is how that's carried out: you get a carton mini container with your sauce in - just exactly the type of container you use to pour ketchup at any fast food place. So it's not cooked with it and it really doesn't add much. This place wouldn't be all that convincing at a cheaper cost either, as it seems to me any fried chicken chain would do a better job. read more

I got the chance to visit Big G's second location in downtown. This place is nothing fancy, just some tables and seats. I ordered chicken fingers with seaweed topping and yam fries. Over $15, not cheap. The chicken fingers were tender and the yam fries was perfectly fried. I didn't enjoy the sweet powder that use for the yam fries. The wait time was unreasonably long for fried chicken. There was only one person ahead of us and it still took 20 minutes. read more

This does not taste like the Taiwanese fried chicken steak. I took the first bite and the chicken separated from the skin. It looked like two chicken pieces in a big fried skin pocket. I got the original flavour and it tasted sweet. The more you eat, the sweeter it gets. Also, for just one piece of chicken it costs ~$12. This is not worth the money. while eating the barbecue sauce flavoured chicken piece, a piece of human HAIR that had been deep-fried fell off the skin of the chicken onto my plate. This is a pretty big turn-off considering I ate a lot of the skin already. This means I probably ate the rest of the hair already! I bought this from your store today at 4 pm (sept 22). I was excited to see a Taiwanese chicken shop was not too far away as I'm addicted to this stuff. I've had nuggets other places and well... honestly they use way too much sugar in their marinate for their chicken. It's great they have options of oyster mushrooms , shemjl mushrooms but again ... they oyster mushrooms we ordered still tasted too sweet. So upsetting as I had high hopes for a place to go walking to in getting some good salt& pepper chicken. If they toned down on the sugar added it would taste way better. So sad... sigh* read more

Do you like that salty peppery taiwanese chicken? If so you should check this place out. Chicken is crispy and a default flavor of salty peppery chicken. The spices added onto the chicken steaks is quite diverse and the french fries are surprisingly damn good. Worth checking out for the chicken lovers out there! read more

I was not impressed by this. I got the cheese stuffed chicken and it took almost half an hour to make. They did apologize and give me a free order of the small fries for this, which was nice and the only reason for the 2 stars. Unfortunately the chicken was very oily. The bag it was in was covered in grease and the chicken was almost inedible. I wasnt able to eat more than a few bites. Pretty disappointed overall especially considering the price. read more
