If you are at all concerned about spreading COVID, avoid this place. We noticed that the cooks were not wearing masks and were talking and laughing with coworkers while being within inches of customers food. When we asked about it they said cooks are not required to wear masks. First, that doesn't sound right. Why would the people taking your to-go order be required to wear masks, but people handing your food are not? Second, "requirements" aside, have your employees wear a mask regardless! We had a little wait but once we were seated we were served very quickly. I ordered a BBQ combo plate with ribs and brisket, the meal was good a good amount of food for the price. My friend ordered a full rack of ribs which she couldn't finish but she also enjoyed. They've got many tables inside and a number of them outside on the patio. The servers were so polite and checked up on us often. The drinks were delicious. The made our food fresh and quickly with the amount of people and orders they had. The salad was fresh and delicious, the loaded fries were crispy and tasty but needed a bit of zest in the cheese, but the Cuban sammie was a dry and flavorless -- it could use a bit of bbq sauce or au jus dipping sauce to add to the flavor. Ordered the southwestern salad, burnt ends and the ribs (with onion rings). The good: the burnt ends and the ribs. The burnt ends were great, but the ribs were PHENOMENAL. Perhaps my favorite ever. It's worth noting that the onion rings were EXCELLENT as well. For whatever reason, I really liked that they were salted after being fried. I don't know why more restaurants do this as standard operating procedure, but I guess some people are picky about their sodium intake. The bad: the southwestern salad was rather bland, including the dressing. Everything in the salad itself was fresh and well made. No complaints there. It was just missing flavor. The ugly: our server was swamped. I get it. But if you never come to check on us after bringing out our food, and I have to go to the bar to ask for my check, you neglected me, and I resent that. Our server was mice enough, but c'mon man. Only took off one star for the service and the salad because the salad was still decent quality, and the ribs and onion rings were worth their weight in gold. I also enjoyed the locally brewed pale ale I ordered on draft. Would gladly return to try other entrees, but it would be difficult to not take the opportunity to get the ribs here every time. I thought it was OK. I mean in regards to the food itself. I think the portions were great. In fact, the starters are quite big. WE got the fries and ended up splitting it in 4. Definitely get money's worth. The portions of the entrees in general is also good. The food tasted good but not AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL. Thus i gave it a 3 for "A-OK". The service was wonderful. Everyone very nice and welcoming so no complaints there. The amount of time from when I ordered to when I received my food was also fine. The location is good as well. You will most likely need to look for parking in the street but nothing out of comfort. All-in-all it made for a great lunch for a day. Would I return? I'd agree with other reviews that the brisket does not live up to Texas standards (having lived there for 8 years) but the Mac and cheese, Burnt Ends, ribs, BBQ tacos, fries, and pirogies were all excellent. Not sure what was going on, but we sat in front of the store for 15 mins waiting for them to open at 11:30. Someone walked by at 11:40 and said we aren't opening today until 5. Times listed online and on the outside of the store said 11:30-9:00. Only had an hour for my lunch, but wasted 15 mins waiting for them to open. I understand that there are problems getting people to work, but dang it, put a sign on your door and let people know! We had the Cuban Sammy ,prime rib Sammy and unfortunately the burnt ends the sandwiches were very tasty and nice portions. The burnt ends were the biggest fail. BBQ requires cooking until fat rendering to be edible as any true barbecuer knows . This order of "burnt ends" was more like I would imagine whale blubber. With the dish untouched except two piece of chewed FAT bubble gum placed back on the dish the server didn't question a problem but ask if we wanted a go box. We were craving some bbq and based on the Yelp reviews we decided to come here. Unfortunately I can't tell you how their bbq is because they do not serve bbq until 5pm. Yup, place with bbq in the name has no bbq till 5pm. Typically at most old school bbq places it's the opposite. They have bbq as soon as they open and by 5pm they might sell out and close. Anyways since our ribs and brisket cravings would not be filled we decided to go with a few appetizers. Got some wings, burnt ends and 2 sliders brisket and pulled pork. That's as close as we could get to the real deal here. Wings were good. Burnt ends were meh, seemed more like old left over brisket covered in bbq sauce. Some pieces were ok but mostly very lean and dry brisket, which is the opposite of what burnt ends should be. Same with the brisket slider, clearly it was old brisket, very dry. Pulled pork slider was also very dry and didn't have much flavor. Maybe they put all the left overs from the previous day in this stuff then serve the fresh stuff at 5pm. No idea I just know what we had was very disappointing. read more
