This is a first time visit to Big Horn BBQ located at 12611 Fm 1764 in Santa Fe Texas. I went on Friday 7/26/24 around 3:33pm. Ok, this is a BBQ place so that is what I ordered. I ordered the stuffed baked potato with brisket. This is a generous sized potato, ( not quite the same size as Kelly's country kitchen ) but large. It comes with sour cream, butter, cheese and chives. So you walk up to the counter to order and the server builds it in front of you. The brisket was finely chopped and was heaped on for a good meat to potato ratio. It's served with a side of bbq sauce. I definitely got my money's worth at $13.99 A peach cobbler with BlueBell ice cream was enjoyed as well. So this place is a cafeteria style restaurant, which means you order/get your food at the counter and self serve soft drinks. Other than the friendly smile/greeting there is not much service. Now the place is new. So it should appear clean. It's designed with a Texas flare. Not over the top decor with country music overhead with a few tv's around. Seating is comfortable. Both booths and tables with room to walk around without having to squeeze between chairs. It was worth the visit and I plan another visit soon. And you can get gas and snacks at attached market. We visited this place for lunch on May 21, 2019 and it was my first visit here. The place just recently opened, I believe around 6 months ago. The interior is very nice and new. I liked the area left to the entrance with the wooden boardgames. There was no queue at the counter, so I picked a tablet and went ahead. The ordering process appears to be a bit disorganized. I got the 2-meat-dinner with brisket and ribs plus green beans and potato salad. The food quality was ok but I have eaten in plenty of better BBQ places. I don't want to experience the place when it's packed. The area with utensils and drinks was clean and organized. I also liked the self service area for the pickles and toppings. They have an own parking lot but it's small as being shared with other spots in this lil mall. read more

O'rings were very good. Mac and cheese was terrible unless you like that liquid cheese that is served with a pretzel. The ribs were terrible. They tasted like they were cooked in an oven and sprinkled with a little dry rub. The ribs were undercooked and I only got 3 skimpy ribs. What a waste of money and a terrible meal for Father's Day. Was there on May 9th. Ordered our food and sat down. Had a placard with our number for them to bring our sides to the table. After about 10 minutes the sides were not out. Told the cashier and she went over to the employees making the sides and told me they would be right out. 15 minutes later we were finished eating and they still were not out. Asked for a refund and was told that they would refund our desserts since the sides were part of the meal we purchased. We went over to the store side and spent more money. Before we left I went back to confirm that the credit was processed and I was told it was. Looking at my credit card statement today and there is no credit. It is not a lot of money but it is just the fact that I was told it was done and it wasn't. We are from out of town but visit family in Santa Fe. This is one of those places where you go for very specific menu items. They do some items well but as a whole, the majority of the menu items are not great. This is essentially a barbecue joint and overall it is a smidge below mediocre. Let's start with breakfast, the breakfast burrito is your best offering here. The loaded burrito comes with potatoes, beans, cheese, eggs and a meat of your choice. It is very good and worth the price. PSA I usually skip the bacon because they chop it up and it's burnt. The breakfast tacos are OK I've had way better. This place does make wonderful flour tortillas. Now onto the lunch and dinner menu... The barbecue sandwich is good it's not the best I've had but you definitely want to go with the moist cut sliced brisket and not the lean brisket because their lean brisket is very dry. So, if you're gonna get a barbecue sandwich get the moist or wet cut brisket. The Star of the show is found inside the gas station part of this restaurant. They have a hot bar which is loaded every day for lunch with these delicious pulled pork tacos. They are very simple but very flavorful and extremely economical. They don't have them every day and when they do have them they sell out quick, because like I said it is delicious and cheap. These tacos are from the leftover nights ribs and they pull the meat off and top it with grilled onions on a soft flour tortilla, roll them up and they sell them for about $2.50. Now let's talk about the combination plates they're not a good value because the sides are terrible. I have not found a side dish at this place that is edible. So, if you're getting a combo plate the sides are half of the value and to me there's no value because they're terrible. The brisket again is good if you get the loose cut, the sausage is meh and the ribs are just OK. I like the ribs on the taco but for some reason I don't like them by themselves they they're just a bit too dry/tough. The burgers used to be really good pre-pandemic. The burgers they serve now are not good, the hamburger bun is so dense you could use it as a frisbee and the meat is a little bit different. What is weird is the bun for the burger and chicken sandwich are not the same as the bbq sandwiches and that's sad because the bbq buns are good. It used to be a really great hamburger but now it's it's completely different and it's not like it was when they first opened. The chicken fingers are a NOPE and CFS is ok but the gravy is awful. The chicken Sammy is good but that bun ruins everything. Look at the photo, that bun goes down like the titanic, heavy. The desserts are a major let down and not worth the calories or money. This place could've been a four-star if they would just listen to their customers but they don't. I have spoken to the manager of the store Jose multiple times about different things and they always have some excuse ready but they're aware of the issues. They have a very young staff that is not trained well so they're unable to understand barbecue terminology like wet or loose cut brisket and many times when I have asked for the wet or loose cut the people cutting the meat don't cut it correctly and it completely changes the texture of the meat. I really hope they get the old burgers back because that would make a big difference in the amount of trips that we go here and if they could make those pulled pork tacos a staple on the barbecue menu and not just the gas station menu that would be a game changer for them. I've visited this establishment over 20 times and like I said there's specific items that are definitely worth the trip but if you're feeding a lot of people or they're out of certain items you're just not gonna be able to find what you need affordably. read more

Used to be good food when we got it to go but NOT ANYMORE. Last few times the brisket was dry and overcooked. Decided to get chicken today and it was overcooked, dried out, couldn't even cut the skin. We had to throw it away. The side salad was slimie, tomatoes and cucumbers must've been made way ahead of time because taste was gone from being in the cold fridge too long. So dissatisfied. We were regular "to go" customers but NOT ANYMORE. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY GETTING ANYTHING TO GO from the Manvel location. THEY GIVE THE "TO GO" people the meals they wouldn't dare feed you in the restaurant or you would send it back. To go meals haven't been fresh or good, maybe leftovers from lunch? Been wanting to try BH since they opened. Picked up food to go last night. I'm extremely picky when it comes to BBQ and I was impressed with this place. The staff was extremely friendly and genuinely happy to help us. The place is quite spacious and decorated nicely. The food was delicious. We sampled the brisket and turkey. Our choices for sides included potato salad, mac & cheese, green beans, and corn. Everything we tasted was fantastic. There are many more choices for sides, as well as meats, and each one looks tastier than the previous one. The jalapeño bread is amazing. We also indulged in a butter pecan cheesecake that blew me away. I can't remember ever tasting a cheesecake quite that good. Stop by and give this place a try. I am very glad this place opened because it's right down the road and Lord knows we need more food places out here. However, this location is hit or miss. The BEST thing you can order is the burger. 90% of the time it comes out right. I like mine medium and it's usually done right. There have been a few times they made it well done and it was terrible. The marble cut bbq potato is good too. I love the fact they have a drive-thru but the little store attached is cool, so you may want to stop in there. The staff is young and so there can be some mishaps when placing your order. I wouldn't waste time with anything other than the burger, brisket sandwich or potato. The chicken fried steak is decent but it's not gonna knock your socks off. BEWARE - I ordered ribs last Sunday around 3pm and they were so dry my dog wouldn't even eat them.
