BIT HOT CRAB is as good as it gets in Chico. I was visiting my daughter, who attends Chico State, and she recommended this place for lunch. I got a chicken sandwich (new to their lunch menu) and she got fried shrimp, and we both shared an order of lemon-pepper fries. Let me tell you, for all of the TASTY, FRESH, YUMMY, food we got, and the exceptional service, I will be visiting my daughter more often. Our waiter was so attentive, and he explained the menu to us with great detail. I thought it was so great when the owner even came out with his wife, and introduced himself. I'm laid back, and don't mind the Styrofoam plastic cups with lids. As long as it's good food, good service, and clean, I'll be back...and BIG HOT CRAB delivered on all of those counts. I hope this is around to stay, Chico is in need of more variety. read more

My husband and I were super excited to try this new restaurant when it first opened in Chico. Chico doesn't often have much variety and we don't often have new restaurants either, so this was quite a treat. Sadly enough, the wait time was horrific. We waited for more than an hour for our food to arrive...and all while sitting with a then 3 month old child, and when we received our food, it was less than great. The staff was absolutely amazing though, I can't stress that enough and really hope that it was just the initial growing pains of recently opening their doors. Please do take a test run for yourself because if they have improved, it would be great to support a restaurant that brings in new cuisine and opens up people in this smaller town to various different cultural tastes. read more

These yelp snobs don't know what they're talking about, Big Hot Crab, I LOVED IT! If you can get past the "styrofoam cups" and "plastic utensils" (which aren't that big of a deal), you will come to find that the food is fresh and delicious, and the wait staff is friendly and helpful. When I went in to go eat, a great waiter, Cody, helped me, and he made my experience so enjoyable. He was informative and funny and the food came out fast, and it was SO SO SO good! Great find. We were in Chico for a tournament and stumbled across this place by chance, although it doesn't look appealing from the outside and could use a spruce up inside the food is great!! I think the menu could be a bit confusing but basically you select the items you want in a "boil". We had king crab, lobster, Dungeness crab cluster, claims, shrimp, potatoes, sausage and corn. Wow what a feast! We selected the mild seasoning which still had a kick to it and was the perfect amount not to totally cover the taste of the food. Great service - great food! read more

My husband and I adore BHC. We've been quite a few times and have had a positive experience each time. I will say that if you're looking for a romantic night out that this might not be your place. You're gonna get messy and a little gross, but your belly will be super happy. What a gem in Chico! This place destroys Joe's Crab Shack! The Cajun spices are incredible and make the haul taste that much better! If you're not a fan of peeling shrimp you may be ticked but I almost think that's half the fun. I also love the flexibility of what you want your haul to be. The king crab was the best! read more
