Not sure why there are so many low reviews, I found Jim's to be a great option for higher end fast food in Hood River. A great addition to the food scene. Maybe they were there right after Big Jim's opened when they were still getting their process down. Big Jim's is big and spacious inside, with views of Mt. Hood from the window. how many fast food restaurants can claim that? The service was great, even with all the questions I asked as it was only my second time at Jim's, the first being a visit to the original in The Dalles. My cheeseburger with grilled onions and jalapeño hit the spot! As did the onion rings. They are famous for their ice cream, but I didn't get any this visit as I was already struggling to finish my meal. They have a drive through for those who don't want to get out of the car or are ordering to go, plenty of parking and tables and booths for those wanting to eat there. Dining area is bright and cheerful, a lot of photos and history adorn the walls.

I'm sincerely surprised that the ratings are so low. I had a pretty okay experience. Like, 3.75 stars. I went through the drive through in the early afternoon, and there was no wait. I ordered a mini Jim Dandy burger (bacon and cheddar cheese) and a marionberry sundae. My total came out to about $12. The burger was decent. I can see what others are saying about not much flavor, but the flavor wasn't bad, it was just plain. It was definitely fresh, though. In fact, this was some of the freshest hamburger meat I've seen in a while. The bacon, cheese, and bun were all decent quality. It's not going to be my new favorite burger joint, but it was alright. Honestly comparable to Wendy's, but less salty. The sundae, on the other hand, was phenomenal. While the burger seemed a little overpriced, the sundae actually seemed like a decent value. There was like, half a small carton of marionberries in there. They were real, fresh marionberries, although I couldn't tell whether they were from a local farm or grocery store. They tasted a little commercialized, like the berries you can buy at Walmart. Not sweet, but maybe it's just too early in the season. The shake seriously looked just like the ones in the advertisements. Whipped cream and chopped nuts were overflowing the lid (in a good way). Very Instagrammable. Service was friendly, and the wait was not long. It was easy to find parking since the parking lot is huge. I would want to come back again to try the huckleberry sundae for sure.

I paid extra to upgrade to tots. The bag was half empty. 14 tots....that's all they gave me.

I was really digging Big Jim's for a while. As an ice cream place, they had Mike's Ice Cream downtown beat...until today. An ice cream industry standard is so serve spilt single scoops since time immortal. Mike's does spilt single scoops. And Big Jim's, up until a month or so ago, also offered a split single scoop. However, when I was here today with my daughter to get her a kids ice cream after her summer program at the pool, they stated the manager told them no more split scoops! Okay. Otherwise, the food is pretty good and the service is above average. Although, the prices are extremely high for what you're getting. It seems like you're paying more for inflated worker salaries than you are for food prices, would be my guess as to why the prices are so high.

    Jim Dandy meal!!

Food was great! I was surprised that they do not have any substitute sweeteners... Employees were nice and helpful! Place was clean and tables were stocked with condiments...

If I could give zero stars I would. Came in today for a scallop basket. 18.95 which i wouldnt mind, except when I open up the box there's 18 tiny bay scallops and fries. This is absolutely ridiculous. I have been going to big Jim's since I was a child but this will be my last visit. I have been getting this basket for years an I swear the price keeps going up which I understand, but the portions keep getting smaller every year. It's sad and very disrespectful to your loyal customers. I recommend people save your money and go somewhere else.

We let the long lines from opening day a few weeks ago get more manageable and the staff to get used to the job... and came in today for lunch around 12:30pm. In terms of physical setting, etc: Parking is tight, with a few odd angled spots being especially tricky to exit. Inside it's a HUGE improvement over the former tenant (The Ranch), with bright wood, lots of windows for natural light, mementos from the past history of the site, etc. The flow feels awkward as you order to the left, then have to circle back around and through the line in order to get drinks. For the food .. we both had the 1/3# cheeseburger (no sauce), and fries. It came out to the table in about 8 minutes. Fries were hot, and rated an "OK" rating. The burgers were disappointing - neither of us thought the beef had much flavor at all. It wasn't clear what the standard toppings or extra toppings were ... we asked for "no sauce" and the burgers arrived with the beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a lot of mayo. You can add in pickles or onions, mustard and/or ketchup (also available on the tables), or omit any of those. But even if I'd added my favorite toppings... the star of a burger should be the burger. Personally I like a bit of char/grill, and a beefy flavor. This burger just doesn't live up to other burgers around here - Twin Peaks and El Cuate both come to mind. I'm not sure we'll be back ... we can get great shakes at Mike's, and better burgers elsewhere. None of the other menu items appeal much but they include a variety of chicken sandwiches, fish, misc fried baskets of stuff (chicken pieces, shrimp). Our price for 2 1/3# cheeseburgers, 1 order of fries,, 1 small drink: $20.90.

Big Jim's has the best burger I've ever had. Their prices are reasonable. We always order extra grilled onions and jalapeños on our burgers.

We all got different sandwiches and every single one of us loved what we got. Wasn't too busy on a Friday morning, plenty of open seating. They did have pastries as well but did not partake. Ordered the bagel and lox which was amazing- came with all the fixings such as tomatoes, capers & red onions. The salmon was fresh and the bagel was nice and toasty, just the way I prefer. Got to taste the sandwich with the jam and loved it. Kind of wish I got that sandwich instead just cause of the jam. The bread was really good too- I think they were homemade english muffins. Everything on the sandwich was just chef's kiss! All of the employees were really nice. The place was clean as you have to "buss" your own table. Glad that people can follow directions. The drinks my group ordered came out piping hot and was served with a smile. Cool spot!

You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The dining space is bright with tons of seating. I love that they make their own bread!! It's super soft and such a nice touch. I usually go with the turkey which has turkey, white cheddar, tomato, pickles, onion, lettuce, and hot mustard. It was a bit spicier than I would have liked, not that it was too hot, but that flavor was really dominant for me so I'd probably modify it a bit in the future or just build my own . My daughter loved her ham sandwich which comes with sprouts, avocado, and cucumber. My husband also really liked his Italian and their clam chowder. This place is definitely worth a stop if you are hungry in the Gorge!

This is one of our go-to spots on Hood River. We've been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and…read moresomehow they manage to nail it every single time. Today's mission? Split the St. Helens Burger, an order of fries, and a side salad with the recommended goat cheese (trust them--it was the right call). The burger was everything you want it to be. A fresh poppy seed bun, a perfectly cooked patty, sweet caramelized onions... and then came the poblano pepper. That little bit of smoky heat tied the whole thing together. Now let's talk about the fries because they deserve their own paragraph. These are, without question, my favorite fries. They arrived hot, crispy, perfectly golden, and had that satisfying crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one. If you're a fry person, these alone are worth the visit. The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. I now wish I didn't let my husband eat more of the fries. Gotta head back up there soon! Service was great and love that the girl at the counter asked me if I was doing anything fun today - extra friendliness goes a long way!

Everyone else is already finishing up their drinks and meals. Wanting just one drink after a long day, I head to the bar! My wife asks me to get her one too. Here's where it gets bizarre. Kickstand has a bar...well, it looks like a bar. But what I found out is that it's just for looks because it doesn't act like a bar. I thought ordering two cocktails and paying for my drinks would be easy, like it is at every bar in town. But the bartender, I mean employee standing behind a bar, asked if I was with the large group. I stated, "yes, I was." Then she proceeded to tell me that the drinks would be on someone's tab. But I showed up late...I don't know what's happening. I don't know who's paying for the "tab". I just wanted to buy two drinks and walk away. But that wasn't allowed at Kickstand. Then another employee walks up and attempts to take my drink order. Super confused, I tell her the employee standing behind the bar just took my drink order. And then we proceeded down the tab conversation again. The second employee said because "we" were a party of 8 or more, I couldn't pay for my own drinks and I they would have to put it on the party's tab. But again, I don't know who owns the tab. If it was the woman having the birthday, I didn't want to add to her bill...on her birthday. Then they suggested I "could just Venmo" the party girl. No! I want to just order two drinks and have Kickstand take my money. Why wouldn't they just take my money?! The place was dead tonight, other than the 5 or so small daycarel families, sitting at their own tables, that made up the "party". I canceled my drink order and walked away out of protest and principal. When asked if I was with the big party, I should have said no I guess. Lesson leaned for next time, if there is a next time. Kickstand, you're so difficult and frustrating!!

They have plenty of outdoor seating for your little pups, though the water dish they left out was unattended to. As far as food, they had a whole plant-based menu to meet my vegan needs. More important, they were able to make a gluten-free sandwich for my partner with celiac. They took precautions to minimize cross-contact with gluten items, including wrapping the sandwich up separately and bringing it out to us first before bringing out our gluten containing items. The three in our group had mixed reviews on the food quality. I enjoyed my reuben very much. My partner and his mom thought their food was okay, and their portions were too small for the price. As far as the actual store goes, they carry a lot of what your typical natural foods store or food co-op would carry, though the prices seem more along the lines of what a Whole Foods would charge. For example, $3.50 for a single avocado. Considering that they are a small business in a somewhat touristy town, I guess that is a sound business decision. All in all, a good experience, just expect to pay a little more if you are going to shop or eat there!
