I try to visit Big John's any time I come home to visit. This time was no different. What was different is that I gave the Grand Blanc location on Perry Rd a try instead of my usual spot on Pierson Rd in Flint. This location is now serving quesadillas. I wasted $9 on a chicken quesadilla. They added extra cheese, not by my request and didn't give light onions as requested. The tortilla wasn't toasted well so it became soggy very quickly. Do yourself a favor, stick to the Pierson Rd location if you want quesadilla's. I certainly will. Ordered 16 inch double meat mushroom steak and onion sandwich $23 took three bites through it in the garbage it had so much salt on it. It was disgusting..... ask for peppers and sauce on the side and didn't get either partially my fault for not checking the bag before I left...probably will never visit again. As a Gen X, I use to come to Big John's with my dad as a kid. As a kid, this was such a treat when my dad would ask do I want to go to Big John's would bring such excitement. Because it was such a test getting subs from here, they were always so delicious. I moved to the Metro Detroit area in the '90s. Unfortunately, no big johns in the metro Detroit area. Such a shame. I found myself driving up to Burton today and decided I have to work in Big John's. I have to admit the last time I came to big Johns was before my dad passed away in 1997. I was a little worried that I was going to be disappointed because of a memory that was decades old. I walk in, and I wish I would have got the person who rang me up. She was pretty awesome. Go to ANY OTHER BIG JOHNS besides this one if you actually like flavor or want a true representation of Big John. I'm convinced, they intentionally stay away from seasonings based on the location however to serve meat out the package, cheese, and a bun with no season is HORRENDOUS! My god I've missed you Big John. On our road trip from Detroit to the thumb, I saw the sign on the highway and with 3 lane shift we are here. I'd give it a step or two above fast food using Tubby's and Subway as the bar. We order a 16 inch original with mushroom to split and a few sodas for around 17 bucks. Not too bad. This place is everything I remember as a youngster. Very very thin shaved Ribeye with a soft hoagie roll. My date didn't want to let on that she enjoyed it but she didn't stop eating it. I think I need this to be on my list of yearly guilty pleasures. It's not an amazing sandwich but it doesn't need to be. It is however, very enjoyable. read more

This is my least favorite big johns location. It says a lot of I would rather eat food cooked in Flint water than eat here. They are skimpy on the meat, and my order has been messed up twice. Well it happened again, they left the cheese off of my steak and onion sandwich. It seems like whenever I do a carry out they forget the cheese. Besides that, the steak was barely warmed through. By the time I paid for my sandwich she had thrown the meat on the grill and had it wrapped up and ready for me to pick up. They are in such a hurry the meat doesn't get heated through. Again, let's not beat around the bush- I'm a huge, huge fan of Jersey Mike's, it is in my opinion one of the best fast casual chain sub shops around, but to suggest their cheesesteaks are better than Big John's is simply laughable. Now onto the other reviewers comment about the piercings and apparent disinterest of the girl working behind the counter showed. News Flash: this is the Flint area, where the weak are killed and eaten. It's a rough town and people's attitudes there often reflect that. It's reality, embrace it. In closing, Big John's is the kind of place that survives on its own lore (for a reason) and people who've moved away from the Flint area still make the effort to return home for it (again, for a reason) and positive Yelp reviews or not, it thrives- do yourself a favor and find out why! read more

I read the reviews about how awesome this place was and thought we would give it a try for lunch today. It was nothing special to be excited about. The woman with the tongue piercing helped us and she wasn't that friendly at all. It seemed like we were bothering her by coming in to order food. My husband and I split a super steak, onion and mushroom sub and we both were surprised at how low quality it was. There are two places in Michigan that I can think of off of the top of my head that are way better than this place, Jersey Mikes in Waterford and Joey's in Garden City/Southgate. This particular location is absolutely disgusting. As much as I love Big Johns, I was thoroughly disappointed. The meat lacked flavor and had zero seasoning on it. The peppers even tasted funny and were super light compared to how they should be (rich, yellowish-green.. however good banana peppers are supposed to look lol). My chips and drink were good, though. And the staff were nice. And the place was clean. But my sub was not good at all. I honestly drive all the way to Flint (Coronna Rd) just to get Big Johns, smh. read more

Great place with nice employees. I came on a Monday afternoon and got a Barbecue Cheeseburger. Big, sloppy and delicious.

Make sure you check your food before you leave, they never follow orders. Not the cleaniness fast food will drop food on the floor and not wash their hands and continue to fix your food. I plan to have my friend who is an food inspector in this area to start targeting them. read more

I was introduced to Big John lore by one of my friends and we decided to stop by after an utterly grotesque alcohol induced weekend at CMU, and my god, was this the best thing I have ever consumed. If I'm ever on death row, my preferred method of execution will be a 16" Super Steak straight to my dome. I want my blood to be replaced by an IV filled with this magical liquid they call "the sauce". Lil George claims "he has the sauce" but we all know the sauce belongs to Big John. If the honor of meeting Big John was ever bestowed upon me, I would get down on my knees for him, and I can tell you right now, I wouldn't be praying ;). Big John takes a dump all over the chest of the city of Philadelphia and their sad excuse of a "cheesesteak". The last three times I was in this restaurant I ordered the largest stake and onion all three times I watch the employee not fill the sanwhich with meet leaving the last two to three inches with just bread. For the price of this sandwhich one would think you would not have to throw away the last three inches due to it being a empty bun. The last time I was there I politely asked the employee if they would mind putting the sanwhich on the scale ( which is provided but not used). She then did and rudely replied it's exactly right. Apparently leaving the end of the sanwhich is normal by there standards. In the evening it appears that the employees are highschool kids with know management and little care for customer service.
