My first time posting a review but have eaten here off and on my entire life. Original restaurant is located in Archer and the Ashton location opened a few years later. It moved from its first locale in Ashton a while back and is now in the diner attached to a gas station. The establishment is not much to look at, and the bathroom conditions are even worse, but the Big Jud burger is legit. Buy one and split it with friends and family, and then buy a basket of fries to share as well. If you have an appetite you can try to eat one on your own and get your picture on the board and a free t-shirt. Happily did it when I was a kid but my metabolism can't keep up with it nowadays. read more

My son and I stopped for gas on our roadie and noticed the restaurant in the back, so we got lunch there. Great choice because the mushroom and bacon burgers were terrific. I love the fresh cut fries too. Good service. The only reason its not five stars is just my pet peeve of having to order fries on the side because they aren't served with the burger. I love this place. We stop anytime we are even near. The big Juds burgers are massive and are too much for 2 people, but probably good for about 3 adults. The bun tastes totally homemade and I love it so much. Definitely a fun place to go to and make a tradition. I can't even tell you how good it is. We came here after hearing about the giant one pound burger. In fact, they also serve a two and three pound burger. The staff was nice and friendly, but both my wife an I found the burger itself to be uncommonly tasteless. Their more normal fare may be much better as the place seemed to be reasonably popular. Pretty good hamburgers! The fries are fresh cut and taste great. I've passed by this place hundreds of times and never stopped until today and I'm glad I did. As far as people saying the dining room is messy, I didn't think it was bad at all. They have carpet in the dining area and lots of kids so you notice anything that falls on the floor but it was not disgusting like some reviewers want you to believe. Stopped here on the way home from Yellowstone. Burgers and shakes were great! I ordered the mushroom bacon burger. The bacon was thick and the mushrooms plentiful. My husband ordered the Man vs Food burger, but on a smaller scale (1 lb instead of 2). It was huge! Guess who is having leftovers? read more

On our first road trip west, we ended up having to take a few days off. That's not uncommon due to some health issues, but we don't always get lucky with the places where we have to stop. We did this time mainly because Big Juds was practically in the parking lot of the motel we stayed in. We were there in 2005, so it's possible that things have changed but the burgers and fries were good enough that if we ever make it back to that part of the country, we're going to stop at Big Juds. read more

Always a great burger and Huckleberry ice cream! This is the location in Eastern Idaho near Island park and the food is consistently good. The fries and fry sauce are the best in the area and I recommend the huckleberry shakes! read more

My boys and I accidentally arrived here because the subway counter was closed. Thankfully this place was open until 10pm. The staff were very friendly and happy to serve us. We really enjoyed the food, especially the fresh cut fries. What I got a kick out of the most was how squiby the joint was- nasty old carpet, uncomfortable seating and it all represents Idaho; Napoleon Dynamite style. The state is like one giant 1970 pit in time and this restaurant helped me feel the vibe full on. I will return many more times. read more

This is the kind of down-home, unpretentious place where I love to eat. Their cheeseburgers taste like local cows and their fries still have the taste of Idaho soil on them. If you don't like Big Jud's you can't be from Idaho, so your opinion doesn't count anyway. read more

Food is 3 stars but the sheer filth of the restaurant and restrooms bump it down to 1 star. Burgers are good, fresh cut fries are good and the service is very slow. Ooh, and did I mention the filthy dining room? Don't lean on or touch anything, check the ketchup bottle for long hairs, ours was a lucky one with hair. This place is delicious! I'm not sure why some past reviewers are so crazy about what the bathroom looks like. I tend to eat at places based on their food... not their bathrooms, but I digress. The hamburgers are some of the best I've ever had and you can't beat the fresh cut fries. They have a large variety of different types of burgers. If you're traveling through Ashton and haven't hit Big Juds yet, you've got to give it a shot (there are also Big Juds restaurants in Archer and Boise). The place has a huge menu full of bugers, sandwiches, and ice cream, and I don't recall ever being disappointed with my choices. Got a hankering for a Big Big Burgers then this is the place. The hamburger filled the the plate and fed 5 people. I recommend the double patty to balance out the ratio of bun and meat. The fries were ok I suggest the restaurant put sweet potato fries on the menu. Big burger small town. read more

My family love coming here! We always get their 1 lb hamburger, an I can barely eat a quarter of it. The meat is delicious, and the atmosphere is so fun. The food tastes great, and I love their huge ice creams. This is the place to come with a big appetite! I went in today for a take-out order. I saw my onion rings finished and on the counter after about 10 minutes after I placed my order. 20 minutes later, my burger was placed next the my box of onion rings. Another five minutes, and they finally brought my order to me. 35 minutes from placement of order until delivery is unacceptable. Cold and soggy onion rings made it even worse. I've been here before and was satisfied. I hope the problem is just due to understaffing typical with these Covid-infested times. read more

Visiting in Ashton area/Yellowstone, busy place, good sign. Hardly. Trash, straw wrappers, napkins, fries, strewn all over floor. Sign said, Find Your Table and we found a clean one. Ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. Waitress returned and said, "I am sorry. There is a group of 16 ahead of you and it will be one hour before your grilled cheese is served." The waitress was very polite and to their credit, a few waitresses began cleaning before we left but that dining room was absolutely filthy. The Idaho Health Dept or Robert from the Food Channel show would have closed the place down in a heartbeat. read more

Well where do I start hmmm..... the food was great. Fries were a la cartel so they didn't come with the hamburger and if I ask for a small -the portion is actually enough for two people. The burgers were very tasty- we ordered the cheeseburger. Bacon cheeseburger, spicy chicken club and a spicy chicken. The spicy wasn't spicy but other then that it was yummy. The chicken tenders were great also. The only downfall about the place was it needed to be upgraded. The service was friendly and pleasant. Worst service I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. It says to seat yourself, we tried but every empty table...about 10 of them, had not been cleared of plates and trash. We finally picked the least messy table, and I tracked down a waitress to see if we could get it cleared. She said no, and to move to another table....which keep in mind they are all dirty. So we cleared one ourselves. While ordering the waitress was rude and condescending, granted she was a teenager. When we placed our order we asked if we could have some wet naps to clean the table, we were refused. Then we asked if we could please be moved to a booth once one was cleaned off. She refused saying it would be easier on her to stay at our table...which is sticky and we cleared off ourself. This is at 2:30 pm Sat, Sept 21st. 2019. So I went in to big Judd's to get some take out about two weeks ago. It looked like they were at the end of their dinner rush so I cut them some slack and waited about five minutes. During this time several waitresses made eye contact with me yet never acknowledged my presence. The dining room was filthy and so was what I could see of the kitchen. I want to like this place more, but every time I go I find myself thinking how the burger is just okay. They are known for their enormous burgers, which are fun but even more mediocre in flavor. There just aren't many choices in Ashton, so we keep giving them a try, but every time it is just decent. Burgers are just too dry. Be aware they also no longer accept restaurant.com gift certificates (which we didn't find out until paying out bill, which was particularly frustrating since they are priced a bit high but that seems common for many places in Ashton since they know choices are limited so they can charge more). Not only did they refuse to accept the gift certificates, the owner made the teenage waiter tell us instead of coming out to explain and apologize. They really need to put up a sign on their door notifying customers before entering instead of not finding out until you pay and they don't make any accommodations. Poor customer service. read more
