The information provided at the beginning of the class didn't flow the best, and used a lot of terms I didn't understand- knowing your audience is important. We were told we would get 1.5lbs bacon, and .5lbs bacon bits. When picking up the bacon, we only got the bacon, and none of the bits. This needs to be updated on the class description. Sandwiches: we tried a goose, and a batalli. The goose was good- nothing spectacular. I was a fan of the batalli- nice amount of mayo, appropriate spice, and good amount of meat/cheese. Would definitely get the batalli next time. Overall, I enjoy the sandwiches, think the sandwich class could be improved.

You can browse the various freezers or shelves for items like picked veggies, canned fish or spreads. It was fun to see that you could buy everything needed for a picnic or impromptu lunch! We got sandwiches to go as well as locally baked cookies. I tried the recommendation for a vegetarian sandwich. It was nice and crusty and had some good flavor. I might create my own next time, but theirs was good and had lots of flavor! My friend was new to Indianapolis and really liked the options. She said she would be back and so will we. I checked in…read morewith the young woman tending the register and she gave me the lay of the land as well as a souvenir tasting fork of my choice. There were a few designs to choose from: a lobster, an oyster, and a fish, from what I can recall. She also introduced me to our gracious host for the evening, Nolan, who was running the show. Nolan is a big ball of energy and a joy to be around. He set the vibes to light, fun and whimsical and I really appreciated that. Everyone moved around the room freely, visiting all of the tasting stations that were set up with whimsical, hand-drawn decorations on the paper tablecloths (much like that seen on the Pinterest commercial). There were 6 different ones, all with multiple options at each station. I tried sardines, razor clams, pickled ramps, an entire array of Fishwife tinned items, mustards, seafood dip that is made in-house, oysters, the list goes on. They also introduced me to an Indiana-based soda company call Bollygood, with Indian-inspired flavors. I love, love, love the Lime Basil Cumin flavor. I wasn't too sure about that combo, but it was delicious and super-refreshing. It smelled like a taco...but didn't taste like one! The Lemon Mango Turmeric was really good too. I also enjoyed the demonstrations lead by Chef Amber. She also has a light that was a pleasure to witness. I could just tell that she really loves what she does. While she does not work there, she still gets to come back for the fun stuff (her words). She has been a huge influence on the whole tinned fish movement at the smokehouse and develops recipes and curates these events alongside Nolan and the team. I loved both recipes that were shared with us and her enthusiasm to show us how we can elevate the tinned fish beyond the can. We mingled. We made friends. I spent a pretty penny on several of the delicious items that I was introduced to. I look forward to attending more events here in the future.

Here are my takeaways: Tour: Once we got our health and safety standards attire, we made our way through the warehouse tour. So interesting to see each step of the process. Affordable way to spend a Saturday morning and you can try some cool charcuterie meats like a fancy person. Shop/Product Reviews: As mentioned before,the retail shop is packed with products. Plenty of items to make a gorgeous charcuterie board and tasting plates. I did try a sample of the gin and juice salami, which I did not like. I found 4 great items that I will probably purchase again in the future: Big Red Salami made with Wagyu, Soprosseta, Tulip Tree Trillium Cheese and the amazing confection...Miso Bacon Caramel Bar. That and the Soprosseta stole my heart. Go there, try samples, buy what makes you smile, and live each day to the fullest!

My sister and I went in and we each got a dessert and because it was four in the afternoon, we got decaffeinated coffee. The refills were free and we sat at the little counter like we were at a diner and enjoyed everything about this iconic little bakery. The decor is a eclectic. We just took our time and looked around and laughed at so many signs and odd little things that were placed over the years. On the way to the ladies room, you will find out that the gentleman that started the restaurant fought in one of the world wars, and you will see his worn out shoes, his uniforms, his letters of accommodation and Learn his story. Now let's get to the desserts. We shared some type of a wonderful lemon pastry and a black forest cake. Best black forest cake I've ever had. Savored every bite. We were able to buy the last of the springle's that they had made from Christmas. FYI, if you don't like black licorice don't buy Springerle's but you can only get them at Christmas because it's a German tradition and they won't work in the summertime because of the humidity. Dad's is sold at most of the larger farmers markets in the Indy area. Today was their first weekend selling corn at the Zionsville Farmers Market for this season. The line for corn stretched 20+ long waiting for the market to open. And we got ours. The line moves super quick because the corn is already bagged. A bag of a dozen usually contains 13 ears and costs $11 (this season). The corn is the freshest corn you can find, picked at the peak of perfection. Each ear is so sweet that you don't even need butter. I'll be serving mine for Father's Day dinner. Seems appropriate to have Dad's corn on Father's Day. The bags can returned each week for recycling. We arrived early at the market and easily found parking. Dad's also has an online store that sells shirts, mugs and other logo items.

Tonight, I had a little time before a nearby film screening and decided I would finally drop in. First off, I instantly loved the vibe of this strip center location that's not too far down from Trader Joe's. This location is pretty solidly accessible with nearby accessible parking, appropriate curb-cuts, and a layout that I had almost no difficulty maneuvering. In case it's not obvious, Penzey's Spices specializes in spices. They also offer online ordering (free shipping with $49+). I have to admit I'm no expert when it comes to spices. I'm also not the most adventurous eater due to a fragile system. However, I've been venturing out of my comfort zone lately and I got lots of ideas from my visit to Penzey's. I have no idea how many spices they carry. It's a lot. I found the prices quite reasonable. I found items that I thought "I want to try that" and I mostly found the prices at such a good point that I would be willing to give it a try. Of course, some are more than others. That's life. Employees were friendly. The overall energy of the place was light and hopeful. They also offer gift boxes, trial bags, and accessories. However, when it comes down to it this is really a spice store and boy do they have amazing options. I believe in terms of corporate that Penzey's is based in Wisconsin. I'm just grateful they're here. They add such a spark to the Castleton area, and they seem perfect as a companion to the nearby Trader Joe's. It took me way too long to get here. It won't take me that long to get back.

Just pepper alone they probably have a dozen different flavor variations. We have over 80 spices in our pantry. Some of our go to are Frozen Pizza, it takes a Jack's frozen pizza to the next level.
