Stopped in to try the cinnamon rolls today. They're quite large for $2 and delicious.

I have had Governor Stumpy's bookmarked on my to-do list for years but just got around to visiting…read morethem this Saturday afternoon. I thought of my parents after getting settled in at the bar. This is the type of old school neighborhood bar and restaurant that my parents would take me as a child. The booths along the wall, the outside deck, muted TV's with golf and the NFL draft above the bar, christmas lights strung along the ceiling... all triggered magical memories of visiting places such as Bob Ford's Canteen, Joe's Bar and Grill, The Liberty Bell... as a child. The menu has all the standards from steak, chops, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salads...something for everyone in the family. I ordered the Posnanski's Chicken Spiedini - named for Joe, the former KC resident and sportswriter that I assume was a regular when he worked for the KC Star. The dish was a plate of spaghetti in a tomato pesto sauce topped with a long skewer of chicken spiedini then topped with a fresh tomato heavy marinara and two slices of garlic toast. A fantastic and perfectly sized entree. To go along with the good food and vibe was the service. My waitress / bartender was friendly and engaging and the jovial owner came over twice to chat about sports and follow up on my meal. Another mature lady (owner's wife? / manager?) not only asked me about my dish but asked if I'd order it again and what modifications I would make. If you've read my past reviews, you know how much customer service means to me, and Governor Stumpy's is nailing it. I also had a nice chat with a gentleman sitting at the bar discussing food and Kansas geography. A perfect little afternoon in Waldo. An easy five stars and wishing that I lived in the neighborhood. A new favorite.

She took our orders, got our drinks and the food came out piping hot. Kudos to the kitchen for being on top of their game. I was surprised and the speed and better yet, enjoyed the food. We had a pork tenderloin sandwich with fries and a chicken salad. Yummy. Apologies for the lack of pictures. We were so hungry we ate before I could get any. The ambiance and story behind this establishment is cool. Would I go again! Most definitely.

It was mostly empty as it turned out but that meant we were able to get prime seats at the bar in front of the tv. The array of German bier offerings is exceptional. I appreciated the lower alcohol choices as well. The interior is, as the name implies, like a small beer hall, with long tables for gathering with new friends. Also ideal for putsches. The outdoor seating is a strong point. Serene, softly lit and spacious. The bartenders were business like friendly, they really don't want to hear your sad stories. The only downside was that they quit serving beer at halftime of the game we were watching. The game that went into extra time and on to penalty kicks. So we sat there for an hour and a half, thirsty, pockets full of unspent cash, watching the game while the neglected taps mercilessly mocked us. It honestly seemed baffling and inane beyond belief. Still, looking forward to a return trip when they're more willing to part with their delicious brews.

While they offer pale lagers they also go deep into other German styles like bock, Dunkel, schwarzbier, and the whole spectrum of German-beer. They offer German food that historically pairs with beer. I've always enjoyed the appetizers. They have a happy hour from 4-6 p.m. In the winter they usually run a special where you get a discount for sitting outside in the cold. I've done that a few times. Their calendar is always chock-full of events, so I recommend checking out their social media accounts to look for something fun.

I want to send a HUGE thank-you to Chastity for taking such good care of me and a colleague last…read moreweek! We were meeting to take care of some college business over lunch, and Chastity was our server (as well as the daytime bartender, which was handy!). She was friendly and so helpful with the menu (it was my colleague's first visit), and gave us recommendations for food as well as drink pairings. She stopped by as we were enjoying our meals, to ensure that everything was going well, and when we asked if we could continue to occupy the table (to finish our meeting, which ended up lasting 90 minutes), she was more than happy to accommodate us. I had the Impossible Burger (my first time trying one) and it was DELICIOUS! I have friends who are vegetarians and often have difficulty with plant-based hamburgers because of the texture, but this was perfect and honestly tasted just like beef. The toppings were fabulous and I was able to upgrade to sweet potato fries (from regular fries) for no extra charge. What a deal! I paired my lunch with a can of non-alcoholic Sam Adams IPA (another first try), and it was super-tasty! My colleague ordered Big Gary's meatloaf and said it was wonderful. Pro tip for conducting a meeting at The Red Door: The high-top tables in the bar area near the front door are quieter than the main dining room, due to the location of the music system's speakers. We had the table in the corner, and there was minimal traffic and it was easy to speak to each other. Again, MANY thanks to Chastity--and to the cooks in the kitchen--for such a great experience and helping to make our lunch meeting a success! We really appreciate you!

We ordered several items and everything had great flavor. The server was diligent about figuring out ingredients for us since we are cautious with a new food allergy. He helped make sure the dishes were prepared properly and safely, which we really appreciated. I believe his name was Chris. Service overall was very good. The server checked on us just right. We never needed to seek him out and he was always there right when we needed something. The only small issue with service was when we asked for extra sauce. It never came even though someone who was not the server took the request. We made reservations and specifically asked to be sat in the mezzanine because it was a big celebration. That request was not acknowledged. It would be helpful if they considered those seating preferences when they are offered as an option. We did not notice a changing table in the bathrooms. Now that we have a child and cannot always find a sitter, we pay more attention to things like that. Overall it was a good meal with tasty food and attentive service. A couple of small things kept it from being perfect, but we enjoyed it and would return.

They serve double-decker beef or chicken tacos for only $2.50 every Tuesday, and honestly, they remind me of Taco Bell tacos, except they taste better. They fill them with plenty of meat and toppings, so you definitely get your money's worth. Social Waldo is a bar, and the lighting is dim except in the main bar area. Eric was the first waiter/bartender who helped me, and he was great. I've already been back three times since, and I'll be back again next Tuesday for more tacos. Their happy hour runs from 3-6 PM, and the wine is pretty good. Tuesdays are Tacos & Tequila, and you can't beat the deals: $2.50 double-decker tacos $5 tequila shots $3 Mexican beers $5 margaritas They also have great specials throughout the week: Monday: All-Day Happy Hour (11 AM-midnight) Tuesday: Tacos & Tequila Wednesday: Sammie's (KC Cheesesteak or Nashville Hot Chicken) for $10 with a side (11 AM-10 PM) Thursday: $8 burgers with a side Friday: Extended Happy Hour from 3-9 PM Sunday: Brunch with $1 off domestic Big Boy beers On two other visits, I tried the Mini NachoDaddy from the happy-hour menu, and there was nothing mini about it. I honestly thought they brought the whole dinner portion. I couldn't finish it either time! Note that during happy hour, the nachos only come with steak or chicken. The service was great and very quick. I was told everything on the menu is good and I have no hesitation in believing that after just one visit. I tried the KC Philly with fries and a Chicken Taco. The taco was on special for Taco Tuesday and it came with a hard shell wrapped in a soft shell with nice juicy chicken and delicious salsa in the side. I absolutely love a good Philly cheesesteak and this one was delicious. It has some kick from the jalapeños so be prepared! The meat is super juicy and tender and the combination with the veggies is perfect. The fries were also delicious and were fried a different way than I've ever seen which made them super light and airy. I'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend giving this place a try!
