I had to share my experience after a second failure from an improper shock installation. I hope Big O management reads this honest and factual review. In 2018, Big O on Geary Street installed a new set of Rancho shocks on my truck. The Rancho shocks have a lifetime warranty. I gave Big O an excellent review back in 2018. In 2024, the Big O manager, Will, assisted me with a warranty replacement of all four shocks due to defective rubber bushings, paying for labor and realignment. Happy return customer at this point. Here's where things went wrong. The Big O mechanic who installed the replacement shocks didn't torque the front control arm nuts and bolts back to spec and my driver side front end came loose a week later and I lost control of the truck while driving. Couldn't steer the truck safely at any speed. Fortunately, this front control arm failed on a City street rather than on the Freeway with my son during our camping trip that week. It would have been catastrophic at freeway speeds or on a mountain road! I brought the truck in immediately and was charged the $125 "inspection fee" even after the mechanic and manager admittedly reinstalled and retorqued the loose control arm bolts that were improperly installed. The manager should have waived the "inspection fee" since this was a Big O mechanics fault, but I was just happy to get my truck rolling after a four hour wait and didn't push the issue at the time. Fast forward June 13, 2025. My driver's side rear shock broke free from the top mount bolt while driving. I heard a bang, which was the shock popping out from the chassis mount. On further inspection, I found the rear shock hanging by the lower bolt arm. Also, I checked the upper mount nut torque on the passenger side rear shock and was able to spin it freely by hand! From my understanding, the top nut should be torqued to 15 ft/lbs. Wasn't even close! I discussed this shock failure with another tire specialist shop and they pointed to improper installation torque settings. Although the front office and staff are professional, polite and they probably have many happy customers, I'm no longer one after two mechanical failures from a routine shock installation. If any positive comes from publicly revealing my experience, Big O needs to verify their mechanics do the proper installation steps and not disregard proper torque settings. The head manager's line, "it happens sometimes" is not acceptable when a control arm fails due to an inadequate shock installation. 100% NOT SAFE. Therefore, Big O will never touch my truck again. I personally don't trust this shop to keep my vehicles safely maintained on the road.

Great service time after time, I've bought tires, done rotations and recently they fixed a flat tire.

Yup, Chris Monteverde. Carful, he's a bit of a crook and lacks integrity in my experience. Had to sue these guys and it was a long, painful experience. Ended up winning the full $7,800, but was without a car for 4 months while my engine was being…

Rebecca at the front desk was especially helpful--friendly, knowledgeable, and very on top of communication throughout the process. She also gave me a solid recommendation for a local autobody shop to address an issue with my bumper, which I appreciated. Overall, really smooth experience. Would definitely come back.

I came to Stress-Free Auto Care because my front brakes were grinding and making a scraping/whining…read morenoise at low speeds, especially when reversing. I was told OEM brakes would be installed so they would be quiet. The invoice did not identify the brake-pad or rotor brand/part numbers, and the noise never went away. When I returned for what I understood to be a warranty inspection, the mechanic did hear and acknowledge the noise. I also approved replacement of both front lower control arms and bushings, plus an alignment--about $2,400 total--after they recommended the work. The repair experience was incredibly poorly managed. I was told the job would take about four hours and expected the car back by end of day. Instead, I arrived to pick it up and the shop initially could not locate my car; after several minutes, I was told it had been moved to a sister shop and would not be ready until the next day. No one proactively called or texted me about this change, despite me clearly explaining that I needed the car back. I had to cancel a doctor's appointment in the East Bay because of the delay. The only remaining item was an OEM skid plate they were waiting on from the dealer, and I repeatedly offered to come back for that separately so they could return my car. Communication remained inconsistent, with multiple promised updates and ETAs missed without any outreach. They gave me a discount for the delay, which I appreciated. But I later discovered they had still charged me for the brake inspection, despite the visit being for a persistent noise following their own brake work and being presented as a warranty follow-up. They acknowledged the charge was a mistake and said a district manager was processing a refund. It has now been one month, and I still have not received it or a clear resolution. Worst of all, the original grinding/scraping noise is still present exactly as it was before I brought the car in and spent roughly $2,000. I understand that repair shops get busy and parts can be delayed. What I cannot accept is repeated missed promises, moving a customer's car off-site without notice, weeks of unresolved billing, and a brake-noise concern that remains unresolved after all of this. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I typically wait to buy my oil change until Om able to save on Groupon which also gives me 20% off all other services received that day! However, my experience today at the San Francisco location was completely unacceptable and dangerous. I originally came in just for a routine oil change. While there, the technicians recommended changing my transmission and radiator fluids based on mileage. Trusting their advice, I agreed. Shortly after, a group of workers gathered around my car and informed me that my "coolant tube" was broken and affecting the cooling system, but said they couldn't fix it because they don't do general mechanical repairs. At first, I was appreciative of the heads-up. However, after driving just two miles, a strong burning smell began blowing through my AC vents. When I pulled over and opened the hood, smoke/steam was pouring out and fluid was leaking everywhere. It turns out it wasn't just a generic "coolant tube"--it was the main radiator tube for the very fluid they had just worked on and replaced. They serviced a system with a broken tube, charged me for the fluid replacement, and sent me back onto the road in a compromised vehicle. Had I kept driving without checking, this could have resulted in catastrophic engine damage and serious safety risks. After spending over $300 today on fluid services, I am now forced to pay even more to repair the damaged tube system and refill the fluids all over again. Valvoline pushes add-on services for profit, but clearly lacks basic care for customer safety and quality control. I will definitely be refraining from using this place's services in the future and recommend everyone from doing so too.

They say my rear brake pads and rotors need to be replaced + my rear shocks are leaking and are dead. They want $780 for the rear brakes and rotors then another $1250 for rear shocks and alignment. $2,030 worth of repairs for a 6 year old car with about 48000 miles on it. Obviously don't pay this if your car can still run fine and I immediately start searching for auto shops for help. I find out about Atech Auto by sending in a Yelp request and Alex gets back to me same day. He quotes me HALF the price Toyota wanted and can get me in the shop next weekend when I was free. Pretty good deal when compared to some other quotes I got. Bring my car in on Saturday around 9am and it probably doesn't get done until around 3pm. There isn't really a waiting area except for some lawn chairs. It's best to take an uber or ride Muni somewhere else to kill some time until your car is ready. Probably my only feedback is I wish they would've called me when my car was ready rather than me guessing and calling them, but hey they looked busy. Got the car back, paid the agreed price, and was on my way. I don't notice a huge change with how the car feels but I at least appreciate not being up charged twice the amount for similar services. Would recommend reaching out to them if you ever need to work on your car!
