After a hunger-inducing trip to the nearby Natural Bridge Caverns, we used yelp (nearby, "pizza", map) to find Big Papa's. First off, it's not mapping right, as you'll need to continue a bit further southwest on Schertz Pkwy. We learned this by calling, which leads to a funny story. The phone was answered and I my wife heard "Big Papa's Church." She apologized for calling the wrong number, explaining she was looking for a pizza place. "You have the right number.", she was told, and we were given directions to find it, just about a mile further southwest from Savannah Dr. Big Papa's was cool and inviting on this very hot day. I immediately spotted a beverage case and saw that there was beer in there, so I was already a happy camper. We started looking over the menu and were confronted by a dizzying selection of delicious-sounding options. Ultimately "The Big Kahuna" caught our eye. Described as "The house specialty with the Hawaiian Punch! (Portuguese Sausage, Kailua Pig and Pineapple)" We inquired about the sausage and pig and learned they are the real deal... And that to make Kailua Pig is a 15 hour process. If we got it right, the owner with Hawaiian roots, brings this item in from Hawaiian. After a description like that, we had to give it a try. While we were waiting for our pizza the phone was answered and I heard, "Big Papa's Shirts." I asked the girl (I feel so bad I forgot her name... I think it starts with an R) what she said. "Big Papa's in Schertz.", she replied, "Because there is also a Big Papa's in Universal City and this cuts down on the confusion and mis-orders." So that mystery was solved. Bottom line: Our pizza was fantastic. The Kailua Pig was delicious and tender. The Portuguese Sausage contrasted nicely and the pineapple gave it a perfect sweet element... All on top of a thin, perfectly cooked, crispy crust... Just the way I like it. I washed it down with an ice-cold Stella Artois. It was the perfect lunch. Next time we are in San Antonio we will do our best to make it back to Big Papa's. read more

This is my first time here and really enjoyed my visit. Friday afternoon, had a great cheesy pizza with fresh toppings. I've seen other reviews about soft crust, mine was good. If you like a crispier crust just ask for well done. But when you hand shave your own cheese it's going to be greasy a little. But what pepperoni pizza isn't. One of the owners Davin was in and provided excellent customer service and conversation at the bar. They have 7 TVs for sports. They have the nfl ticket and he says they will probably get the NBA ticket. Overall I enjoyed my experience here and will be back and pizza was good! Oh and his little daughter is soooo cute and mild manored. Not a peep!!! I saw some reviews talking about his daughter and "white trash". That is totally messed up for someone to judge a man for working hard and providing for his family and taking care of his child. This place is a local favorite. We ordered The Chicken Bacon Buffalo Ranch pizza, The Meatie, and mild and golden buffalo wings. Overall, this was good. I felt the pizza crust was a bit soggy and greasy at the center of the pizza. The wings were my favorite part of my visit. They were pretty big and the sauces were tasty. We ordered when we arrived so we spent a little time inside the restaurant. It has a sports bar vibe with several tables and a small bar. There were two friendly servers. read more

We ordered a pizza. He said come back in 30 minutes to pick it up. The gentleman asked me what I was driving and he would bring it to me When it's ready. So we waited the time I called the store and he said he'll be right out. Five minutes later no one came out so my daughter went into the store to pick up the pizza he said I don't have an order for that name. She gave him the receipt and then all the sudden he found the pizzas. She brought the pizzas out to the car looked at them. The cheesy bread was burnt in the meat pizza was stone cold. I called the store and asked him if he could remake it he said he was out of dough and I said well then you could give me a refund no I can't give you a refund because you already left the store with the pizzas. This is my second time being here the first time was a great experience but that was about eight months ago. I'm just wondering if they have new owners. We got home put the pizza in the microwave warmed it up thought that would help keep all the meat on the pizza there wasn't even any cheese on the top of the pizza. We had to go order pizza from somewhere else. I've never heard of a place that doesn't give you a refund for bad service or bad quality of pizza that he made. It's not our fault as a customer that you do not have enough dough to make pizzas. And it's not the customers fault the burnt the pizza. He's very rude and I will never be back read more

It was a very lazy Sunday and I was in the mood for pizza. Yelped this place since the reviews were pretty good. Bottom line: pizza is a 4.6 (Barstool pizza scale), pretty disappointing. This restaurant is in Schertz, TX and right near a high school. A lot of good pizza places are closed on Sunday, but this restaurant says it is open until 10pm. Inside it is fairly small with tables to sit down to eat and watch sports on a few big screen TVs. There is a bar area where I assume locals/regulars hang out. I called in an order for a large, 18" cheese pizza and 10 Cajun Parmesan chicken wings. The food came out just as I was paying. The pizza didn't look that spectacular, but I left judgement aside until I was actually able to taste it. By the time I got home (20min drive) the pizza was cold, yet the wings were still fairly hot. I separated the slices and could immediately tell it hadn't been thoroughly cooked - the inner circle of the pizza was a sloppy mess of semi-cooked cheese and pizza dough that stuck to the box. I had to reheat the whole pizza in the oven, which unless you have an actual pizza oven/grill it's not the same. The pizza did not taste that great either. There was way too much cheese on the pizza to the point that the grease caused the cheese to fall off. It didn't help that the paper thin crust was extremely doughy, floppy, and drooped when picked up. The chicken wings were okay. If you're going to order wings from here, I'd recommend asking for all drumsticks as opposed to flats. There was way more fat/skin on the flats than the drumsticks. I'm not sure why there are so many raving Yelp reviews for the pizza. It's pretty hard to mess up a plain cheese pizza. This place is a step above Little Caesars pizza, but I would not recommend this restaurant if there are other options. read more

The service is usually pretty good. The dough is good. We ordered to go pizza and cheese bread with an extra sauce for the cheese bread THE SAUCE HAD SPOILED. I took it back and they offered to replace the sauce but we ate our pizza and cheese bread at home first so it wouldn't get cold so there was no need for it at that point. I had to request a refund for the extra sauce and only got the money back for the one sauce not even the other one we didn't get to use but I feel that more should have been done on their part to make up for it the waitress did apologize but the owner did nothing but ok the .75 cent refund. I hope anyone that eats there doesn't get food poisoning. read more

Okay Big Papa's...not impressed tonight. Pizza was under cooked and thanks for the watered down ranch dressing. If you run out of ranch, then just say so. Don't serve sub-par items just to get by for the night. Also, walking by the kitchen to use the bathroom...kitchen looks pretty gross. Optics are everything. I am a pizza junkie and this place never disappoints me on taste. Delicious! I am a fan of both meat and veggies, but my kids usually prefer something basic. Either way, I eat more than I should, every time. If you aren't in the mood for pizza, try their sandwiches! They have a chicken one that I add ranch to, yum!! The people really care about their patrons and the quality of food. If you're new and unfamiliar it can be frustrating when there are long wait times. But it is ALWAYS worth it!! We got takeout from Big Papa's because it was the only spot open late enough for a quick takeout meal for the kids, hubby, and me for our recent little excursion to central Texas. We were pleasantly surprised when we brought a Homewrecker, Pepperoni (for the kids), and an order of cheesy bread back to our AirBnB and dug in. This pizza is some of the best we've had since NY! The crust is just the right balance of softness and thickness without being pan (definitely hand tossed), not too salty/bland, really great flavor. The Homewrecker seriously rivaled some of the pizza we had in NYC back in Dec '19. Just the right balance of sauce and cheese, the tomatoes, onions and garlic were perfect and they must be using olive oil, it was just so good. Was plenty hot and cheese was still "stringy" when each piece was pulled away from the pie, even after a 15 minute drive back to our casita, so they packed it just right. We were quiet through the whole meal as we enjoyed every bite! My hubby was glad we ordered a lot because he ate leftovers the next few mornings after and said it was just as good leftover. Wish we could bring this place back home with us, we'll return if we're in the area again in the future. read more

Big Papa's is the best pizza in Schertz/Cibolo (honestly in San Antonio area). I love the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Staff is always friendly and they have a decent beer selection.
