The decor is great, but that's able all that is good. Ordered a Reuben sandwich and the meat was horribly dried out. I would have ordered something else, but it took a long time just to get this sandwich. The french fries were really good, tho'. Also ordered a cup of coffee, but had to keep asking for refills as they never came around to see if everything was ok. Told the waitress how bad the sandwich was and she said she'd take it off the bill. When she brought the bill back she took $2.90 off. The waitresses didn't seem to very motivated or even care. We just stopped for lunch and an hour and 1/2 later we left. Would NOT recommend! read more

I literally limped in here this afternoon after a long hike and was very pleased with the service and the food. They brought me a cold beer promptly, refilled my ice water over and over and kept a pleasant attitude. I ate a very delicious BLT on a focaccia with tons of bacon and fresh vegetables. The fries were great. I truly have no complaints and I look forward to coming back again next time I roll through Stevenson. read more

Good food, friendly wait staff, and a nice atmosphere. I was in Stevenson on vacation and stopped in to the restaurant fairly late. Even though the kitchen had closed they let me order dinner. Service was fast and the food was great. I appreciated that they prepared my meal even though the kitchen had already closed, so I went back for dinner the following evening. Same great service and the food was excellent once again. Unfortunately, after getting back to my hotel I discovered that I had lost a key. I called the restaurant and they looked around for the key, but didn't find it. They asked for my # and said that they would call if they found the key. Well, no luck. I even stopped back in and they checked the lost & found but no key. A week later I am back home and I get a call that a customer had found a key that fit the description of the one I lost. Even though I was back in California they offered to send it too me. A few days later my missing key arrived in the mail. No charge for the postage or anything. Now that's great service! I work in the customer service industry and I can honestly say that it is hard to find anyone who is willing to go out of their way anymore. I wasn't in the area anymore, so it's not like I was going to become a long term customer, they just helped me out because they could and I appreciate that. I'll definitely go back if I am in the area again. read more

I usually stop at Walking Man Brewery when in Stevenson. Unfortunately they're often closed, which was the case last Sunday when a friend and I drove through, looking for lunch en route to Portland after a stormy night camping in the Gorge. We almost missed Big River Grill - it sits unobtrusively at the east end of town - but I'm glad we didn't. The atmosphere and decor suggests classic American family dining, the menu is full of comfort-food favorites and the staff is warm and attentive. Unfortunately the food itself was standard: I had the mushroom & swiss burger which was a little overdone and the sweet potato fries which were okay. Their coffee was weak and a little bitter but that didn't stop me from drinking several cups to recover from our wet & windy night camping. I still think they deserve 4 stars - largely thanks to the friendly wait staff and cozy atmosphere - and I look forward to trying other menu items next time I'm on the Washington side of the gorge. read more

This place was awesome. Our table was not ready when we got there, so we had drinks at the bar while we waited. Our bartender/waitress was with us from then thru our meal, and she was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and food, and answered all our questions. I had the prawns and chorizo pasta dish, and it was one of the best meals I've had. Great character to the place and they took care of us from start to finish. Highly recommend! read more

OK this review is mixed becuase yes the food was amazing. Their homemade salad dressings were to die for but they don't make their own pies just the rest of their desserts. Small, mediocre menu, but the food was good, at least. The Soup of the Day was supposed to be served in a sourdough bread bowl but they were out of bread bowls, even though it was a slow Sunday afternoon. The garden salad comes in a pretty big bowl and the Reuben sandwich was big and tasted terrific. read more

So, this used to be our "go to" place for dinner or lunch when we went up the Gorge. After tonight, that will no longer be the case. My daughter and I ordered the fish and chips. It was terrible. In the past, we would order this all the time because it was so good! Now, it's obvious it's just store bought frozen, breaded fish that you can get at any fast food place or freezer section of the grocery store. It used to be a flaky golden crust on the fish. It was so bad neither one of us ate more than one piece of the fish. read more

We asked a local where to get some great food and he suggested Big River Grill. The pan-fried oyster appetizer was fantastic - and our friend who had never tried oysters really liked them. The food was fresh, homemade and really tasty. The big surprise was the homemade cheesecake...normal chocolate cherry cheesecake would be syrupy cherries and fake tasting chocolate, but this was the best cheesecake any of the four of us had ever tasted. It was rich, creamy, fluffy, a solid cherry flavor without being to sickeningly sweet, and a delicious Oreo crust. A fantastic meal! read more

Stevenson looks like a little town, but when you eat at the Big River Grill you feel like you never left the city (except for how nice everyone is). The owners also have a Mexican restaurant across the street that was exceptional. Loved the African Peanut Soup when we returned, too! read more

Found this place on a wifey getaway. Place had all the signs of an established biz. Crew friendly and attentive. Food was spot on and the fries beyond rad. My pulled pork was crazy.
