Had a very nice meal here with my wife. I had the Salmon Dinner, she had one of their salads. The wait staff varied from mildly curt to reasonably friendly - but they were all very efficient. The food was far better than their prices would indicate and the home-made pie a la mode was a delish conclusion. The place was pleasant - a bit cluttered with nostalgia, but interesting stuff to look at so no complaints there. Overall - a very nice dining experience and a great value. Great for what it is. Don't go in looking for gourmet food. Go looking for good quality, semi-upscale American food and you won't be disappointed. Service was excellent. The server offered samples of a soup and two wines to help us decide what we wanted (letting my 8yo try the soup was awesome). Root beer was good and local wines were available and tasty. Cruising the Colombia River Gorge, we crossed over to Washington and got hungry. This place popped up on Yelp, so we gave it a shot. Nice little restaurant on the main drag. Great kids options and adult entrées. The #2 is a great burger with Tillamook cheese and chiles. The waitresses are extremely friendly and accommodating. We only had lunch, but I expect that dinner would be just as good. Give this quaint restaurant a try when your in the area. read more

Excellent -- someone who we were staying with in the area took us there. Great for vegetarians -- lasagne was the best I had -- also great vegetarian chili and housemade rootbeer. Went here a week ago. No wait. Food is fine. Nothing spectacular but tasty all the same. My daughter did rave about the fettuccine. The waitress I was not impressed with. No smile. Short and to the point. Kind of made you feel bad for being there. She reached over the table and put her bare arm pit in my husband's water cup. Ew. Never asked how are good was and if we would like anything else. My glass sat empty most of my meal. I would have liked a refill. Gave us our check. Didn't ask if we wanted desert or anything else. I don't know her name as there's no name tags. Late 30's maybe. Blonde. The hostess with long blonde hair looks 12. She was seriously confused and not knowledgeable with each customer that came in. We sat near the door so heard and saw everything. A few customers actually left because she was so clueless. Pretty expensive for dinner. I don't think I'll be back. The employees at subway a few doors down were nicer and more knowledgeable! read more

I'll start with the day we chose to have a late breakfast at The Big River Grill: Valentine's Day. I guess that was the reason we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. That's understandable, given the holiday. After being seated, our order was placed in good time. After that, we had to wait again. We waited 45 minutes for our two breakfast orders to be served, without any explanation or apology. When we finally got our order, we were told our toast would soon follow. It wasn't brought out until we asked for it half way through our meal. Since we were enjoying our morning together, spending it waiting for breakfast wasn't the worst use of our time. Unfortunately that changed when the food came. Our eggs and omelette were quite greasy. The potatoes were heavy and the breakfast in general weighed heavily in our stomachs for the rest of the day. We both felt queasy for several hours. So a word of caution: if you're not used to eating greasy food, stay away from the potatoes and eggs. And don't make any other plans for the morning. You'll be there a while. read more

We've eaten there each time we've visited Oregon -- the trip crossing the Columbia River over the Bridge of the Gods from Cascade Locks, OR into Stevenson, WA is beautiful, and Stevenson itself is a lovely little town. We've had burgers, salads, fish, desserts, wine, beer at this restaurant -- everything is SO good. Don't pass up this place, and be sure to get a T-shirt! read more

Since I moved to Stevenson, BRG has been my all time favorite. Last weekend the in-laws were in town. This was their first time visiting west of the Rockies. (Outside of Yosemite, could they have picked a better choice?) After a day of waterfalls & fish hatcheries, we needed food and a rest. BRG was picked for a late lunch. The food was GREAT!! The service was good too. I saw that they carried Judge & Jester Ciders, among others. The waitress was very good about sharing her feelings regarding the ciders and the food choices. I really think it the greatest when the service people share and put themselves on the line regarding product, BGR staff truly take pride in what they offer. One of my guests ordered a cider and just did not like it. He decided to ask the waitress to exchange it for a Judge & Jester. This is really inappropriate for customers to do. Nothing wrong with the product, you order it, you pay for it is my rule of engagement. Well he insisted on asking. To my surprise, the waitress took it back!! She cheerfully exchanged it for the Judge & Jester Cherry Cider, which was a big hit. I cannot say enough for an establishment that shows that kind of gracious hosting. GREAT job BRG!!! I definitely encourage everyone visiting the Gorge and passing thru Stevenson, to enjoy the food, service, and the historic ambience of this jewel in the Gorge. read more

This place is probably really good if you're a local. It's very hometowny and full of comfort food. This is my nice way of saying the foods not so great. If you're a foodie it's not the place for you. The sides made it a strong start. Delicious and perfectly cooked sweet potato fries and amazing garlic salad dressing but the chicken pot pie was basically canned soup with about a tablespoon of chicken to be searched for hidden under a breaded top and the burger was subpar, nothing special. Friendly staff and nice small town atmosphere. Drinks were okay. Cheap coffee used for the booze coffee drink instead of espresso or quality coffee. read more

Took the family to Big River Grill for dinner during an April trip to the area. Great atmosphere--lots of interesting things to look at on the wall, great local feel. We enjoyed our food a lot: steak sandwich was delicious; salmon alfredo was a big hit; garlic shrimp was delicious. We were there on the late side, and the place was pretty empty... but our service seemed rather indifferent. Never mind, we enjoyed our dinner there. read more

Outstanding!! We had 4 lunches here over a 3-day period and each meal was delicious with fresh ingredients, very generous portions and lots of choices. The BLT sandwich is served in a fresh-baked focaccia roll with thick cut bacon. The accompanying tomato bisque was thick and full of flavor. The pulled pork sandwich was really tender pork and stuffed with a great coleslaw. The accompanying side salad was fresh and large. Our tuna wrap was OMG the best I've ever had. First the tuna was almost devoid of mayo, which I don't like, yet was so flavorful from the diced pickles and veggies. On top of that was the size-- like a good 2 inches thick, I could only eat one half. I picked the fries to go with it and they were light and not greasy. The servers on all 4 lunches were friendly and made us feel that they appreciated having us as customers. Service was prompt, despite 2 lunch visits being pretty busy. The decor is rustic with lots of hangings to look at. It has a good selection of NW craft beers, but I'm not a beer drinker. Although we stayed overnight in the area for several days, I'd make the 2 hour drive from home just to eat here. read more

We almost didn't stop in, but luckily this was the only restaurant in town open in Tuesday! I had the best burger I've had in a long time, the mushroom Swiss, with a side of clam chowder which was awesome. My husband had the bacon blue cheese which he also really liked. I have never written a bad review before but this place was HORRIBLE. I was on vacation and needed to do laundry so while the laundry was running I thought I'd grab a meal. I say at the bar and it took 15 minutes of bring ignored that I asked for a menu. Food was okay. I just had a salad. Still no one ever asked me if I needed anything. I again had to request a refill. Still had to wait 10 minutes before I had to ask someone again because the first bartender forgot. You definitely have to fend for yourself her. Oh and BTW they weren't even busy! read more

While visiting this lovely town my husband and I stopped in for dinner. I usually am more of a white fish eater, but I stepped out of the box and ordered the smoked salmon fettuccini. It was delicious!! Although, if you were wanting to sit and relax with more than two drinks don't bother. We had two drinks and were cut off. My 6th or 7th visit to the Big River Grill. It has always been my go to place in the gorge....I love their food.....it is fresh and delicious. This trip was marred by the nasty, overbearing hostess/waitress. I asked to sit at the first booth as it was empty and it is the warmest spot in the restaurant.......she informed me that I could sit in the back booth which we did.....It was very breezy (due to the fans) and chilly.....it ruined our meal and I will check to make sure who is working when I go back.....poorly trained staff can kill a good restaurant. read more
