Went in with a couple of friends on a 95 degree day after a visit to the beautiful Wahclella falls and was asked to leave because we were wearing tank tops that the male manager considered to be too revealing?? The reason given was that it was a "fine dining establishment"??? But their google listing is classified as "casual" and to me it appeared to be just a small grill spot with dirty little booths and no windows. Safe to assume management has some pretty old fashioned and regressive ideals. The male manager actually raised his voice and became quite aggressive and emotionally reactive with us when we asked him what was wrong with our attire. Really left us all feeling very unsettled and confused after an otherwise lovely day:-( read more

The sandwich was moist with crunchy crust with the juice running off after the first bite. Even the bun was good! Yum! The French fries had a crispy exterior that gave extra crunch and bite than normal fries. I would definitely recommend it. The huckleberry cider was good and not too sweet and not too tart. Absolutely delicious here, everyone of our party just loved the food. I have to say- this is the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had in my life. REAL homemade corned beef brisket... it was amazing and huge too- so glad I shared with my pops. Other orders in the party were bbq pork sandwich and African inspired chicken, peanut butter soup. Stopped on our way out for Mother's Day breakfast. Place was super busy, we opted to sit at the bar. The place was packed and they maybe had 3-4 woman working. The service was top notch. We were out in the area on a day trip and this restaurant came recommended by those that know the area. We arrived on a Saturday at 4 pm and were seated quickly. We ordered pints of the Walking Man IPA. This beer was good, a little hoppy which we like, and a mellow bitter note in the finish. Watch this one because it's got a little punch at 7.5% alcohol. We had burgers, the #2 & #3. #2 was a Tillamook chedder, green chilies and smoked bacon. The bacon was super crispy. The #3 featured grilled onion and mushroom with Swiss cheese. Both burgers were excellent, very flavorful and very good quality Angus beef patties. My side was the French fries which were extra crispy with some sort of interest coating, I like them very much. There are two reasons why I am not giving five stars. The first reason is that my companions side, black bean chili, arrived at the table less than room temperature. The second reason for not getting 5 stars is that no one came by our table early into eating, to ask is how things were. We had the flag someone down to let them know the chili was in need of warmth. Heated up it was much better. Even still, the black bean chili was lacking "umami," a fancy way of saying it was missing sometime. Yes, we'd return. read more

My mother, brother and I went here after a nice relaxing time from the hot springs he since the food served at their lounge is ridicously expensive and bland. So I decided to go on Yelp and see what other places my family could go dine at. Luckily Big River Grill came up and the reviews and images looked promising. The minute we walked in, we were greeted and seated quickly with menus. Our server came shortly to ask what we would like for dribjs, which were two waters and a sierra mist (Pepsi products only). There weren't too many options on the menu, unlike other American restaurants so it was nice and it wasn't long until we decided on what we wanted. I got this Cajun pasta that came with andouille sasauge and shrimp. My brother got the salmon Alfredo and a chicken sandwich with black bean soup. My mom got a Thai chicken with rice and vegetables. The food was absolutely delicious! I was very surprised especially by the Thai chicken as the peanut sauce was superb, unlike other Thai restaurants. The pasta were phenomenal as well. Nothing was too seasoned or lacked seasoning, it was absolute perfection. To add to our meal, we even decided to get desert which we never really do. And of course, Big River Grill delivers out another amazing dish. Our waiter was very sweet and always making sure our glasses were full. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here as the service, food, and location are great! Don't eat at the hot spring louge, overpriced and bland. read more

Visiting Skamania Lodge with family. looking for a varied and interesting menu that could handle 10 people aged 8mo to 86 yo. Fortunately we found it!!!! Food was fabulous, waitstaff were top notch and very attentive! we order 2 starters Artichoke and Sturgeon that rapidly disappeared. Can also recommend Reuben sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, Peanut chicken, fries are battered and addictI've. Great selection of wine and beers along with a variety of soft drinks including but not thankfully not limited to the usual soft drinks! My family and I came here and got our food to go. We had to ask how long the wait would be because it took so long. The fried chicken sandwich was still VERY PINK, she could've gotten extremely sick, and the salmon pasta smelled horrendous and way too fishy which isn't normal. This is the first time since the pandemic We were very disappointed in the fish. I specifically go there for the fish. In the past it has been a lightly beer batter(?) fish. Just delicious. This time it was like the fish one would get at a fast food place Heavy breaded Pretty tasteless. we won't return until I've learned that they have put the previous breaded/batter fish back on the menu. the sweet potatoe fries were scrumptious. The best I've ever had. And their dipping sauces were unusual but very tasty i in no way fault the chef/line cook or server for the tasteless fish. I'm sure it's a cost saving measure for the management but I can assure you it will cost you in the end - losing customers. My daughters took me here for a Mother's Day breakfast, and I'm so glad they did! We all loved it! We got there right before a huge crowd of people came in...lucky! I loved all the vanity license plates up on the wall as well as the other decor. Our server was wonderful; she was very attentive and friendly, and really gave us good advice about what to order. I had the Salmon Alfredo, one daughter had the meat loaf, and my other daughter ordered the clams. We'd started with the spinach-artichoke dip, which was fabulous. The restroom was clean, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The music was a bit loud, which made conversation not as easy as it could've been, but it wasn't annoying. Seating was comfortable. I have come here for breakfast and lunch and each time my meal was great and service was wonderful. This evening I got the ribeye meal and it was delicious. The seasoning compliment the steak well and the garlic mashed potatoes and veggies were seasoned well and delicious. Will keep coming back when I am in Stevenson. read more

8-29-21 We sat outdoors in a well lighted garden with classic rock playing at a low, but enjoyable level. There were only 5 outdoor tables and we got lucky to get the last one available. Our waitress was young and inexperience, but did a fantastic job, doing everything to make our dinner as enjoyable as possible. My wife ordered a Bloody Mary which surprised me since she is Canadian and usually snubs the US version of their Ceasar. This one, however didn't come with the traditional celery stalk, but instead had a pimento stuffed green olive and pepperincino. DELICIOUS and should maybe become a signature drink of BRG, maybe a "Stevenson Mary, or Mary Stevenson? I ordered my traditional top shelf margarita which had real squeezed limes, you know, like they make in Mexico. Yum. We ordered the Salmon cakes and fish and chips to share since we had had a late lunch. The fish and chips arrived, but the cakes were absent. The chips might be the best we have had in ages. The batter on the fish was a bit thick and heavy, but the cod made up for it as it is one of our favorite fish. The cakes didn't come, and I finally asked if there was a problem. "Oh my gosh as she looked at our order...i'm so sorry." She took ownership of her error with no excuses. I love it when a young person is honest as it seems to be pretty rare. She left to check and came back, "can I get that for you anyway?". Actually we were getting pretty full, so "no, but a single cake would be nice". She wasn't sure but came back and said sure. A few minutes later she returned with the full order which was so good. Again, a little heavy on the batter, but still... All in all a solid 4 on the food and a solid 4 on the service. I know our waitress learned a lot. Both my wife and I have been on the service side of the restaurant industry and it's all about service. By the way, there was no charge for the crab cakes showing management cares as well. After last nights fiasco at O'Hollerans Steakhouse & Lounge in Brooking, OR, just about anything would have been an upgrade. As a restaurant we expected much more and were disappointed. Love this little town. It sits in a beautiful spot off the Columbia River. The restaurant itself had a nice home feel. Our waitress was incredible and friendly. She always took time to check on us and made sure our visit was perfect. Let's start with the salmon cakes. The flavor was terrific. I didn't ask her if the fish was sourced locally since their are many places off the gorge that fisherman sell their catch but it sure tasted fresh with lots of flavor. The crust on the cake itself gave the final touch. Every bite had a crispy crunch. Yum, yum. We had a ceaser salad for one but split it. If you see how big the plate was it was enough to share for four. Now the entree. We both went with the Smoked Salmon Alfredo. My wife loved the strong auroma from the salmon. I tend to agree though to another Yelper that it was a bit too much but that is just my opinion and should not reflect to those that really want that strong flavor. The whole experience was perfect and again they hit the mark. Keep in mind their menu is slightly different from past but with all restaurants always try to check or call if you came for a specific dish. Great job! read more

I come here for the "green chili" cheese burger. I say "green chili" in quotations because its not actually "green chili", more like "a green chili", and even more like "a pablano green pepper". But that's neither here nor there. I'm not in "Kansas" anymore, an by "Kansas" I mean New Mexico, where they have actual "green chili". But its still really good. Anyways! Food wise, its better than Skamania Lodge. I mean, nothing more I can say really, its just a good spot with pretty damn good food. I will return here. read more

Stevenson, Washington is a great spot to plan your lunch break on a day trip out of Vancouver or PDX. A drive through the Columbia River Gorge is always good for the soul and venturing to the Washington side is always rewarding. One reason Stevenson is preferable to me over Cascade Locks (not that there is anything wrong Cascade Locks) is the Big River Grill. Located on Highway 14 toward the eastern edge of town Big River Grill has a diverse menu that will satisfy any hungry traveler. You walk in and immediately you notice the place is bigger than it looks from the outside. Light colored woods highlight the bar, booths and tables are aligned throughout the space. License plates of every location line the walls and in the back stands an old wooden phone booth (seating for one?). My group and I had a long morning out in the woods on both sides of the Gorge laying out a road rally, as we came across the Bridge of the Gods (has there ever been a bridge with a cooler name than that?) we were ready to eat. Out came the Droid X and my handy-dandy Yelp App and we knew exactly where to head. It's just that simple with the Yelp App on your smart phone. My friends had the Pulled Pork sandwich and I opted for the Reuben. Everything was great from the corned beef to the kicky little sauce they put on the Reuben, definitely not just 1000 Island. The pulled pork looked and smelled great and reports were that it was "heavenly"... if in fact they slaughter pigs in heaven. Downsides? Not many, the bathroom is a little small so claustrophobic people need to hold it in. So venture into the Gorge, hike, explore, see the fisher ladder at the Bonneville Dam but make sure you come here for lunch or dinner. read more

My son and I stopped in Stevenson, Washington, to eat. He wanted Subway, but I pushed to try something unique to the town. We went into Big River Grill with no expectations. My first impression was that it was clean. I found it aesthetically pleasing. License plates on the wall. Posters. Alternative rock music playing. We were seated at a booth. We were given menus and water. We perused the menu. Bacon, green chili, and cheese burger on an onion bun was my choice. Price seemed a little steep, but reasonable when you're paying $12 for a value meal at McDonald's. When we received our food, we were not disappointed. I would have paid more for my burger. The seasoned fries were crunchy and delicious. My son, who has autism, devoured his burger and fries. He is somewhat finicky, but loved his burger and fries. Our service was great. Very friendly. Our overall experience was perfect. We will definitely stop again when we pass back through. read more

Considering how small the town of Stevenson, WA is, this place serves up some good food. When reading a menu, I've observed that anytime a restaurant puts a box around certain items, it's definitely something to try. In this case, it was the Sockeye Salmon Sandwich and to go with it, French Onion soup. My friend can witness how quickly I devoured that sandwich. Yes, I was hungry, but it wouldn't have gone down as fast if it wasn't delicious! Big River Grill provided a good sized salmon fillet and it was fixed in a very classic way that couldn't have gone wrong.
