    Bacon Swiss avocado burger
    Nicole C.

Bella was an excellent waitress, very attentive and sweet. The food was excellent as always. Bella recommended "anything with bacon and avocado" so I went with the bacon Swiss avocado burger on texas toast. It was just what I needed! The tots and fries are really good too. Oh, and don't miss the fried macaroni bites. They are excellent!! The place gas a diner feel which is nice for a casual meal. But their Christmas lights were really cool!

I always love driving along in the middle of no where finding a little hidden gem. Case in point after visiting Wimberly for the first time and google had me on all these backroads only to see BIG ROB'S on my home. My enthusiasm was stoked and as soon as I got home, I looked them up and decided to try a lot of menu items. Located in a safe place that's easy to access and park, Big Rob's is a simple restaurant with a large dining room adorned by large TVs and rustic tables while their menu has limited adult beverages and a basic menu featuring quality burgers. When I walked in the waitstaff was extremely friendly and quick to grab my order. Around 1pm on a Thursday there were roughly 4 tables of customers so there's enough open spots if you want to dine in. I got in my SUV and couldn't open the bag quick enough to get a fried mushroom in my mouth. BIG MISTAKE as they were HOT. Besides my own stupidity, they were perfectly fried, great flavor with the perfect amount of breading. They come with ranch too, but unfortunately when I got home, my flame-tip Himalayan cat played hockey, spilling it everywhere. Honestly, they didn't need it. The onion rings were much the same, good breading and great flavor without being greasy, still it seemed like pre-bought bar food not scratch made items. Oh their milkshakes... just get one as they're very good made with real ice cream! Now the part I hate, pointing out areas of needed improvement. I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. First off, the corn tasted like dirt, literally. It had no seasoning and tasted it was pulled out of a can and thrown on my plate without even S&P or butter. The mashed spuds also had little flavor displaying no love. I was hoping I could taste some butter, cream, something to elevate it above mediocre, alas it wasn't meant to be. Now the steak was fried well, not being greasy or tough but crunchy and breaks apart in the mouth. This was the soul winner of the dish. Finally, the gravy wasn't much to speak on, continuing on the tradition of being as basic without soul as the dish could be. At least it had the right consistency and was hot. Now, lets spark some enthusiasm and hope, shall we? I got a custom burger ordering a burger with bacon, onion, avocado, mushroom, Swiss, egg, lettuce tomato and mayo. The only issue I had was the nicely toasted bun needed mayo on BOTH buns. The reason is by the time I was done, the choice of bread was soggy, leaving me holding the meat almost in my hand alone. Eat fast kiddos! That said, the slightly under-seasoned burger was huge and juicy, not overcooked at all! The addons were plentiful and cooked well. My first bite broke the egg yolk oozing all down the sandwich, making me anticipate the first bite. Opening my jaw to snake like proportions and the first flavors and texture hit my tongue. The sharp Swiss followed by the sweet onion, earthy mushrooms, crunchy lettuce, juicy tomato, crispy bacon, and luxurious yolk all playing second fiddle to the wonderful meat. It was a symphony and I loved the whole experience. Overall, I found Big Rob's Burgers does burgers very well with a bar mentality. Items that tried to be outside of their selling point, ie diner like items were painfully average. My suggestion is if you're hankering for a great burger with well executed sides, stop on by.

Tried Big Rob's Burgers for the first time today, and I can confidently say it won't be my last. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was welcoming and down-to-earth--exactly what you'd hope for in a good local spot. My waitress was extremely nice and made the whole experience even better with her friendly and attentive service. As for the food? Absolutely hit the spot. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right, and the sides were just as satisfying. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. This place really is the definition of a great local restaurant--unpretentious, delicious, and run by people who care. Highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already.

Luckily for us, his recommendation was spot on as La Ola is a great little ice cream shop with a large variety of different cures to whatever your sweet tooth desires. Parking is pretty accessible as it's in a small strip of stores and restaurants and there's ample outdoor seating as well to take in a nice summer night. The interior of the store is also nice and clean, making you feel like you're in a well run place from the moment you step in. We ordered a banana pudding scoop in a cone and a scoop of the Cookie Monster in a cup. The line here moves pretty quickly which is good so we didn't have to wait long from the moment we entered to the moment we began eating outside. The ice cream was delicious. The banana pudding tastes just as advertised with chunks of Nilla wafer throughout the bites, incredibly spot on. The Cookie Monster also tasted great, essentially a cookies and cream scoop dyed blue, but why not have a bit of fun with it? The whole experience was great and if ice cream isn't your thing they have numerous other options like shakes and ice pops to get you by. The only ding we can think of is that the trash outside was overrunning and looked like it hadn't been changed in hours. Nevertheless, we're very glad we stopped by here to get a sweet treat and would highly recommend it to anyone in the far South Austin/Kyle area looking to cool off on a summer night.

Who says rich people get to have all the fun restaurants?…read more * * * Crazy Fruits in Kyle is a restaurant that caters to a working class Mexican population. It is on the poor side of Kyle - which means east of I-35. Some of the nearby apartment complexes are pretty nice. There is a nearby trailer park that is not so nice. * * * That said, Crazy Fruits is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. If I lived anywhere between South Austin and San Marcos, I would go out of my way to go to this place. It is a Crazy Michelada - Plain Mexican Lunch - Crazy Mexican Dessert and Crazy Mexican Snack place. Three out of four Crazies means pretty damm crazy. If you are boring or conservative in your food tastes or don't like to take chances, They will make you a plain burrito or a plain taco or a plain hamburger. Do that on a date, and you will put your date right to sleep. * * * Most of what they serve here is Take a basic starter. Add Nutso Ingredient 1. Add Nutso Ingredient 2. Add Nutso Ingredient 3. Add Nutso Ingredient 4. Add Nutso Ingredients 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and as many more as they feel like. The madness piles six inches high on your plate ... or six inches high on your glass. You look at this mountain of insanity in front of you. It is going to take a long time to eat or drink your way through all that insanity. Get started! * * * Here is what I had on my visit to Crazy Fruits in Kyle. What I ordered was middle of the road for what they've got. My beverage was a Michelada. It was served in kind of a standard way with the Michelada mix in the glass, 8 oz of Corona with the mix and 16 oz in the can to keep the Michelada alive. There was the customary tray where some Mexican restaurants put shrimp on top. Instead of shrimp, this Michelada had carne seca, hot and spicy Cheetos, Japanese peanuts, home made potato chips, Takis and Conchitos. Actually that is not quite accurate. This Michelada had a LOT of carne seca, a LOT of hot and spicy Cheetos and a LOT of etc etc etc etc making for an impressive tower on top of my glass. There was a straw and a hole in the tray so I could get to the Michelada and I could add beer as required. That one is called La Botanera if you want to try one yourself. I probably could have made a meal of my Botanera. But silly me, I actually ordered a regular meal. Okay - there was nothing even remotely regular about this meal. I had a platter of their Dorilokos. If you think about your Spanish, You will realize this is a platter of Doritos with stuff on top that is totally loco. In this case, the topping was pork rinds pickled in vinegar and jalapeno, cole slaw made with Mexican crema and cilantro, Parmesan cheese in copious quantity, Niblets out of the can, regular peanuts, pico de gallo and fresh avocado. HOLY PETUNIAS. I went nuts over every single molecule on that platter ... And there are a lot of molecules in a platter that you could have served to a table of four friends. * * * The menu is absolutely huge here. So as fantabulous as my Doritos and my Michelada were, I would be totally curious to order one of the many many many other insane items that they are willing to serve you. Life is too short not to go crazy.

Shrimp cocktail was pretty nasty. I ordered a large and they served it in a slim medium size cup…read more There's was only 7 shrimps inside. To top it off I got a "Cust Serv Subcharge". Never coming again, not worth the money for low quality food.
