They have a lot Asain themed decor and the place is very colorful and vibrant. They cookies and crème froyo tasted amazing. The charge by the weight for toppings. We went on a Tuesday night around 9pm; it was moderately busy. Food: 4/5 - Classic fro-yo place (that also sells grilled cheese). Offered very traditional flavors (tart, chocolate, mango, etc) which is why I gave it a 4/5 instead of 5/5 but they had a very broad selection of toppings. Definitely recommend! Service: 5/5 - Never have any issues with service when we go down to San Marcus for this place. Great service! Ambiance: 4/5 - Very eclectic interior; it's an interesting fusion of a whole bunch of vibes. Makes me think it was formerly a photo studio. Cute and eclectic place for froyo and ice cream. However be careful which froyo you pick. The cake batter froyo had a chemical and medicine taste to it. I hope I do not get sick later...I did spit out most of it. The original tart froyo was fine. I told the cashier at the front and she didn't seem to care. It was a Friday night and we were the only ones there so the ambiance was nice and quiet. The store was clean but the froyo was a disappointment. I love this place. There are so many cute hidden spots to sit and all the different seating is cute. There is a mix of openness and privacy. It's not loud. The Taro gelato with brown sugar drizzle is my new favorite. The sweet potato gelato is also quite good. There is a free sauce station for the gelato, but it's right next to the paid toppings, so don't get confused. The guy at the counter is polite and helpful. Not only is the place immaculately decorated in every inch of space , the selection of fro-yo , gelato , teas, cereals, and toppings is crazy. I could come here everyday for a month and have a new flavor to try ( not exaggerating .) Although I could rave about how delicious all the froyo and toppings were, I think the real thing that makes this place a gem is the atmosphere / seating . Jack of all trades, master of none. Best way to describe this eclectic little shop as they literally have everything you could possibly want dessert wise and then some. Feels like all the popular trends of the past decade mashed into one: boba - check. Froyo - check. Waffles - check. Smoothies - check. Gelato - check. Cereal bar? - you betcha. That said, sheer variety aside, everything is pretty thoroughly so, so. That said I'm willing to bet anyone that there is something for everyone no matter what their palate is. This place was a nice stop after pizza. One hell of a cheat night. Frozen yogurt and gelato. Typical soft serve fro yo with toppings and you pay based on weight. I went with gelato in a delicious waffle cone. Weird risky combo of one scoop of pistachio and one of cookies n cream. Risk paid off. It was awesome. Delicious. Solid. Interior is clean and a mix of cool and sterile. One area has a bunch if games you can play, like Jenga and Chinese checkers. This would be cool if the Jenga wasn't a cheap knockoff with non-uniform blocks that instantly becomes frustrating. Plus missing pieces. Chinese checkers were also missing marbles. So games went from "Ooooo yay!" to a disappointed "Awwww crap." They also have bubble / boba tea, which isn't my thing. Overall very good product. This is definitely the best frozen yogurt in San Marcos. The price is by the weight, and it's good for what you get. The froyo flavors are pretty diverse, although most frozen yogurt places I go to back in Houston change their flavors pretty often - not Frozen Cave! Maybe they'll change out one or two flavors but for the most part, they're pretty static. They have an amazing variety of toppings, ranging from brownie bites to mochi to chocolate chips to 10 or 12 different types of name brand cereals for you to try. My go-to is hazelnut, strawberry, and New York cheesecake. Amazing. They also have boba tea, but it's not that great here. I've ordered taro a few times and haven't been wow'd by it like I have been with their frozen yogurt. They also have smoothies, milkshakes, gelato, and a waffle bar. Really cool place for someone who wants options! The interior itself is a great place to come and hang out with friends or family; they have a selection of games as well. I usually come here with friends on a school night if we want to avoid our responsibilities, so pretty often. Oh, and the people who work here & the guy who own this place are SO sweet. Wouldn't get their boba tea again. The frozen yogurt was sour and not "tangy". Definitely try a sample before buying. The only thing enjoyable and worth it price wise was the grilled cheese. I liked that it was very cheesy and made in a waffle maker, it also had a nice texture to it. Honestly I loved the cake batter frozen yogurt. When I had gotten the cheesecake frozen yogurt, it tasted like gasoline. The chocolate tasted even more like gasoline, they were from the same machine. I believe there was a leak in the machine and they served us. When we went back in to tell them about the taste, she apologized and told us to just grab another frozen yogurt and no regard of a refund. I truly think this might be a common thing that occurs just by how laid back she was about this incident. read more

Frozen cave... what's going on here? This was a cute idea, three years ago I would have rated this place maybe 3.5. Today-- it's 1. This place is disgusting. I fear the toppings do not get covered at night. The m&ms has visible WEAR like they were a year old... I don't know how this place is passing inspection. I was horrified to let my child eat this and did anyways. He had a raging fever last night and all I could think about was the fact that he consumed anything from here. This place is great to hang with friends and grab a quick dessert or even sit down for a major study session. I'd definitely recommend this place for TSU students, especially because it's not too loud and there is plenty of seating. There is an array of tasty options on their menu including waffles, frozen yogurt, gelato, etc. The interior has a very homey vibe which makes it easy to get comfortable in. I wouldn't describe them as tarte at all. It's more like sour. Like when milk goes sour. I ended up going with strawberry, which was a bit more descent. But, by the the time the fro-yo reaches your cup and your ready for the topping it's already watery. Texture is grainy instead of a smooth, dense consistency. Had come into San Marcos for work, and had lunch at Pie Society. I still had a commute back home, so decided to stop by for a drink to go. The place has a relaxed feel, like a great place to study. They offered Boba teas, gelato, frozen yogurt and a cereal bar. First time I had seen one of those. I ordered a large Thai tea with boba, and while I really wanted to like this place- the drink did not measure up. It was watered down, hardly any ice or flavor and the boba had a strange texture. The tubs of gelato had flies all over them and the caramel topping started bubbling shortly after I put in on my ice cream. My stomach already hurts and I ate not even 5 minutes ago. Also, you could see salmonella on the strawberries. Shoutout to whoever said something about the M&Ms having visible wear on them I would have completely looked over that. Also, the bananas were grey and freezer burnt and the chocolate ice cream looked like my toilet after a night of wings and beer. We love boba tea, and have visited many boba-tea places across the country and around the world. In short: this cafe disappointed us. When we saw this place during our visit to the Texas State University, we were very excited, as it looked nice and very conveniently located across the street from the School of Music. (Our visits to TSU will likely continue on a regular basis, and we also liked the sushi restaurant next door.) So, we drove to this cafe just before leaving this town. My first question before I started ordering was if they had real boba - tapioca and it was ready. After getting the affirmative response, I placed the order for two drinks ("to go"), indicating that we were in a hurry. The person behind the counter (looks like the owner), took the order, but continued taking the orders of all the people behind us in the queue before making the drinks. (Take money first, so that people wouldn't be inclined to leave.) Some 7-10 minutes later, when I came to the counter to check, he told me that it would take another 3 minutes until tapioca was ready. What? Didn't I ask before placing the order? Oh, well, we've waited already for quite some time, plus getting refund might take as much time. It is only after the tapioca is ready that he starts mixing the tea and the smoothie that we've ordered. So, it is taking some additional time. Then, finally, when our order seems to be read, he holds the two glasses in his hands, admitting that he both of them were small, while we ordered (and he charged for) one of them large. He offers to redo or to refund the difference. After all the wait, we cannot afford more time to wait here, so, I was forced to leave with the small drink (and a dollar back in my pocket), rather disappointed that I will not have sufficient amount for the long road on this hot day (I almost never order a small boba tea for myself). But the biggest disappointment came when we actually tried the drinks: The boba was NOT fresh. It was stale and barely chewable! How could it be possible with the boba that was just prepared?! Our guess is that this cafe is taking shortcuts in making boba. We've cooked it ourselves, at home, and it takes some 2 hours to cook it properly. And that's what most (but not all) boba-tea shops do. We suspect that the owner "pre-cooks" it, and then keeps it frozen, defrosting it just before serving. Or, maybe the raw boba (Before being cooked) was just old and/or stored improperly. Either way, - this was the biggest disappointment about this cafe. Unfortunately, we discovered that only in the car. If we hadn't lost this much time already, I would have gone back to the cafe and left these drinks on the counter. So, I would think hard before coming here for boba tea on our next visit to TSU. As for the rest: the smoothie (mango-strawberry) was nice. The milk black tea was very sweet even after the request for half-sugar (maybe the owner forgot that too?). Also, be aware that this place has only milk teas: no non-milk teas. read more
