Awesome spot. It's quintessential 90s country club vibes. Think Ralph Lauren and I love it. Warm wood with beautiful lighting and portraits that evoke the countryside. The dirty martinis were a perfect start. Classy and delicious. Sign me up for two please! The main courses were not merely delicious. They were exceptional. My favorite was the pork chop but please do not skip on their wonderfully delightful bread. Insanely fluffy on the inside. Other call outs are the bone marrow, fries, and schnitzel!

Best to go in a group so you can try all their dishes! We had the molasses bread which didnt have enough of the date butter, and overall it was delicious but the flavors are maybe too unique and decadent for a starter bread. After a few bites you felt like you had enough of it. I would skip. The oysters are a must order though. Lamb was excellent. Service was top notch. And the place is a warm cozy fun vibe. We sat at the main dining room but the bar looked fun too to just grab a drink and hang out

MUST VISIT. An iconic location in the heart of Brentwood Village that had been tastefully reimagined with an acute attention to detail across the board. The ambiance is cozy, elevated and warm, especially during the holidays. The service was attentive without being pushy and the wine list and overall menu was impressive. Notably the Super Tuscan wine is a must have for anyone looking for something full bodied and memorable. Will be back.

3.5/5 stars. Beautiful new space in Brentwood. You feel like you're in a tavern on the east coast, however, the acoustics aren't great as you are yelling across the table since it's super noisy. The food was good but not excellent. I prefer the food at Violet. We ordered the tweed salad, flat iron steak with chimmichurri, short rib, and maitake mushrooms. Everything was just okay, the steak needed to be warmer but the mushrooms were exceptionally good. The service was also just okay as the waitstaff seemed to still not have it together.

I wanted to update my review based on the follow-up I had with their senior manager, Jesse. There seemed to have been a mistake when I paid my bill. The server had charged me for another table's bill. Jesse looked into this and made things right. I really appreciate that, and it goes a long way in building trust. It was slightly concerning that the server didn't catch this mistake when charging the other table for their food. Other than that, I appreciate everything. Again I do hope the restaurant takes the feedback seriously these simple changes can make a huge difference. Wishing them nothing but the best in 2026. I am excited to try their sister restaurant The Violet. I might have been harsh in the review at first, but given it's a new spot, I'm sure they will find their footing, as Chef Dana is a talented individual. One of the worst meals I've had in a while. Had such high hopes because of all of the hype about this place. The food was such a miss. I don't understand how they charge such prices for food like this. I ordered the bread it came out hot on the outside and cold in the middle. They definitely have it in the fridge or frozen, and heat it per order. It was not fresh. The butter tasted like an apple, which was very odd. I ordered two bone marrows. This dish was the only decent thing, but my guest had a bone so shallow that it had only bacon and onions on it, and they melted all the marrow off. For the entrees, we ordered chicken schnitzel, which was $40+ and came soggy, way too hot, as if it had been microwaved. Horrible. The skirt steak was oversalted and tough, with visible muscle fibers, making it inedible. I was disappointed in this. I didn't get dessert. The server was good. I would never come back, unfortunately. The server kept asking if everything was okay, but how do you tell them that the whole meal was bad? I don't know, but hopefully this helps. If they don't make changes fast, I don't see this place staying open for very long, too many good steak houses in LA.

UPDATE: (& response to the owner): The owner messaged me separately saying at the end, "if you don't respond, I'll be responding publicly." Well, 1. I did respond to the message, I guess you just didn't like my honest response. 2. Why are you threatening customers?? LOL. Anyway, to address some things in the message you sent me, & the "public response," Dana was trying to insinuate, that Luis M, "suspiciously" had the same experience as me, & "happens to have visited & reviewed the same places as me," making it seem like I made another fake profile LOL. Nope, he's my fiancé & we had the same experience(s), because we go everywhere together, which we went to the Wilkes together.. duh lol. Also, as I responded to your message, I HATE wasting food, ESPECIALLY food at this price point. I'm going to shove as much as I can down my throat, just for the principle of it. I don't want to waste my money. Why I didn't speak up? Because, I felt bad. The server was extremely friendly & I wasn't really sure me complaining would do anything but inconvenience her / the kitchen staff. Usually when people complain, it's because they don't want to pay for their meal. Nope, I didn't want to be a Karen there. I paid for my meal, & therefore, I'm just as entitled to review it. Why I took it home? Well, I guess that means there were leftovers- a LOT of them actually, because I didn't want to eat it all.. lol. It wasn't worth the calories. The server, kept asking if we wanted to take the food home each course, & we kept telling her "no" nicely. She kept INSISTING we take it home, so we finally caved & we did.. But, that alone, should have told her we did not truly enjoy the food lol. Next, Wish I could give The Wilkes (sadly), 0 stars. This was one of my most anticipated restaurants.. However, it missed the mark on every single dish. I left extremely disappointed by one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. From the first step in, it smelt like I walked into somebody's cabin airbnb in Big Bear.. It smelt so old, I didn't even know the restaurant was new.. cries! We ordered the molasses bread & it came stale & cold in the middle with a weird grainy flavor. & When I used the "butter," I actually forgot that it was butter. The texture & flavors were like apple sauce.. I had to go back to the menu to remember what it was.. I ALWAYS SAY, if the bread is good.. the food is good.. & The opposite was true here tonight. As a bone marrow lover, I was SOOOOO excited. I drove 45 minutes to come here- & the bone marrow was a huge motivator. However, yet, another let down.. I could physically SEE the bone on my plate, but I only got bacon & caramelized onions in my mouth.. If you're a bone marrow lover, & you're looking forward to a night out & ordering bone marrow, this will not itch the scratch. I might understand that MAYBE, they're trying to appeal to people who don't usually like bone marrow.. BUT, those people would not be ordering bone marrow. Who will be? People who LOVE bone marrow.. & This, this was just not bone marrow... It was bacon & caramelized onions. The bone marrow was totally reduced down to an oil.. There was no melty gelatinous yummy bone marrow goodness .. For the entrees we got the chicken schnitzel & flat iron steak.. The chicken schnitzel came out PIPING HOT- which, from watching Kitchen Nightmares.. Gordon Ramsay has said when something is THAT hot, it was probably microwaved.. I didn't want to believe it.. but the outter breading was not crispy or crunchy AT ALL. It was soggy & soft. Honestly, now I do believe it was microwaved. The steak was bland on the inside (the meat) & the outside was over seasoned. On top of that, many pieces were so chewy & tendon-y, I had to spit it out because it started to chew like gum in my mouth. I couldn't break it up. The side of carrots were very mid & undercooked. Likewise, the creamed spinach was also a huge let down. I'm also a huge creamed spinach fan, but there was nothing creamy about this dish. It tasted more like steamed spinach with garlic, which is fine but just not what I love or look forward to when I order creamed spinach. I didn't even want dessert I was so turned off. I just wanted to go home & cry about the price I paid for one of the worst meals of my life. Service, however, was friendly.

This restaurant location is a longtime staple in Brentwood, so its wonderful to have this new superb restaurant arrive. Have been a longtime customer of Violet in Westwood. Service was great, atmosphere is old school classic and well done for Brentwood. They could use some more moderate priced items on the menu. Need healthier option of dishes! the chicken dish is fried, so hard to have a non-beef healthy dish. Fish and Chips are also fried. Who wants to eat in GMO seed oil? not me. Definitely needs a fish special option. Constructive feedback, the Mussels appetizer is too small a portion. They need to have a good tomato ketchup for fries, Black Ketchup?? umm seriously? cmon chef, please design a menu for normal people, not yourself. what they have isn't good for everyone. Also, confused why they do not have a good burger option. really? Hope people enjoy and it becomes a regular. restaurants need our support in this era. Also, a little later hours for thurs-Sat nights, keep bar open till midnight. On Scout T's review. 2 stars because of how a steak was not medium rare enough? for a brand new restaurant? Shaking my head. talk about being a bad yelper! he has no reviews. but now on a brand new spot that is in training and barely open he has to slam them. Go back to NYC.

First time here. We came to celebrate our anniversary. Server Alex and manager Michael gave us great service and treatment. We loved everything. Didn't feel rushed and totally enjoyed our night. We will be back. Thank you.

Service was a 10/10 the staff was truly incredible. Great vibe as well. Didn't feel like I was in Brentwood. Great spot for drinks / date to get drinks.

    Main dining room

Was back in LA for the holidays visiting family and we went out to eat here and let me tell you, this is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. My family and I like to order across the menu to try as many dishes as possible, and everything was unreal. Additionally, the pics don't do the atmosphere justice - such a cool vibe in there. Bring a date, bring your friends, bring your family, bring your cousins teacher, just go. If you're debating going here, trust me.... just do it and thank me later.

After eating roughly a hundred Michelin stars around the world, my usual take on LA fine dining has…read morebeen: the plating is often very competent, but the soul is frequently out of office. Then I went back to Firstborn twice within three months. This newly listed 2025 tasting menu spot actually made me feel a little hopeful about LA fine dining again. The shiso with razor clam and beef cheek cochon, and the black cod with green Sichuan pepper mala noodles, are both full-on collisions between deep animal savoriness and sharp, vivid spice. Then dishes like roasted artichoke and morel stuffed with green peas bring the seasonality into clear focus. The menu is not huge, but every dish has a defined structure and a bold sense of movement. On paper, it reads a little mysterious and intimidating; once you eat it, everything suddenly makes perfect sense, and honestly, it gets addictive. The ingredient selection and handling are also seriously thoughtful. Take the aged duck main course. I am very much a "if there is duck on the fine dining menu, I'm ordering it" person, and I've had plenty of beautifully rich, tender duck breasts. But Firstborn's version, beyond being tender and luscious, had that Cantonese sense of "gan xiang" -- the sweet, savory aroma you get from naturally air-dried, aged meats. For a second, I had this flashback to going with my family as a kid to Xing Fu Lou in Wenquan for Lutian cured meats during winter solstice. Absurdly good. Calling it the Duck King of the West Coast does not feel excessive. On my second visit, the truffle and wild mushroom "gnudi" was also excellent. The moment it hit the table, that intense truffle aroma made me think of the deep, earthy punch of French Périgord black truffle. But then I thought, wait, where are they getting Périgord in June? Turns out they were using Australian winter truffle, perfectly in season. That sourcing logic is smart. It is not expensive for the sake of being expensive; it actually understands the flavor window. The fire-grilled lamb saddle on the second visit was just as strong. It preserved the soft, tender texture of the cut without losing that sweet, milky lamb flavor. Grilled over open flame to a rosy medium rare, the flavor, doneness, and ingredient choice all landed. To me, a great restaurant comes down to three things: concept, ingredients, and seasoning. Some fine dining places love making everything complicated, stacking seven or eight ingredients together, serving a dozen-plus courses, and by the end you feel exhausted and sleepy. Firstborn is the opposite. It is unconventional, but from amuse-bouche to dessert, every dish explains its own logic clearly. Final feeling after the meal: addictive, interesting, and absolutely worth coming back for.

Their Brussels sprouts are pretty much only crispy leaves, instead of the traditional hearty sprouts. The passion fruit cheesecake was very good! Drinks were wel-made.
