Came here for an early Father's Day and our server was fantastic. Great banter and great recommendations. The starters were great, my mom thought the bread was a little too sweet but it came out warm and was amazing with the salted butter. Salad was a nice surprise but the carpaccio was good! Just very strong of chili oil (specifically Lao Gan Ma) which is not bad!! But as Asians we definitely recognize that taste haha Now DINNER dinner was freakin fantastic, we ordered 3 proteins and although we did mention our 16oz ribeye that we did order off menu was slightly over, we mentioned to our waitress and she did everything she could to fix that for us. The manager was super understanding, offering to either fire another for us (which was even bigger) since there wasn't another 16oz, or something on the house. So the hospitality is really great here. Honestly reading some of the previous reviews, I don't understand understand where they're coming from, if you as a patron are understanding and convey the problems in a polite manner, you'll get taken care of! The porkchop wasn't too porky it was actually perfect. And the schnitzel was great and crispy. We loved the slaw and sauce underneath it was a nice touch. Separate note for the MUSHROOMS, my father and fiance LOVED this side, the sauce?? Put that sh** on everything! They were dipping the fries the steak the pork in it, put it more on other things!! the fries were great and even as a ketchup hater, that black garlic yuzu ketchup was fire. and the mashed potatoes were nothing but perfection. dessert was ever so slightly a letdown, it was good don't get me wrong, but just wasn't up to the level of the rest of the food, bc it was fantastic!! Horrid food, execution and ingredient quality are very poor. The menu is unoriginal --another copy + paste Carousel in Los Angeles. The interior is cheap and a quick turn key remodel. Service is very slow, it seems as they are understaffed to save on labour, which makes the experience fall even lower. Finally got to stop at the Wilkes and what a delight! Everything from service to food is executed phenomenally, would love to come again soon. First, service was phenomenal and thoughtful the entire meal. Really a standout! I also think the ambiance was wonderful, nice lighting without being too dark or anything too bright or harsh. Its a newer restaurant with old school charm. The food was decadent and wonderful. Hamachi, molasses bread, and salads were wonderful starters. We then got the chicken schnitzel, steak, and sides of mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and brussels sprouts. Every item was well done, and delicious. Standouts were the schnitzel and hamachi but truly everything was wonderful. I also has a wonderfully dirty martini!!!! Blue cheese olives! So happy to have this spot in the neighborhood. The inside reminds me of an old school New York steakhouse. From the moment you walk in, the host was super friendly and got me a stand next to our table to hold my purse. Our waiter was also super friendly and helpful. Best to go in a group so you can try all their dishes! We had the molasses bread which didnt have enough of the date butter, and overall it was delicious but the flavors are maybe too unique and decadent for a starter bread. Well, they did it again! Came back for Valentine's day and everything from the service to the food was executed flawlessly. And of course, the vibe was perfect just like our last visit. Started with the cheese, nuts, and olives (so good) and the beef carpaccio which was both texturally interesting and next-level delicious. Mains were the Chicken Schnitzel (a fave from last time) and the Lobster Thermidor (a Valentine's Day special). I'll say it right now, that lobster was easily one of the single-most incredible and fulfilling dishes I've ever had. Desserts were a slice of chocolate cake and a heart-shaped strawberry shortcake (a nice Valentine's day touch). Dana, your team did it again. The food was good but not excellent. I prefer the food at Violet. We ordered the tweed salad, flat iron steak with chimmichurri, short rib, and maitake mushrooms. I wanted to update my review based on the follow-up I had with their senior manager, Jesse. There seemed to have been a mistake when I paid my bill. The server had charged me for another table's bill. Jesse looked into this and made things right. I really appreciate that, and it goes a long way in building trust. It was slightly concerning that the server didn't catch this mistake when charging the other table for their food. Other than that, I appreciate everything. Again I do hope the restaurant takes the feedback seriously these simple changes can make a huge difference. Wishing them nothing but the best in 2026. I am excited to try their sister restaurant The Violet. I might have been harsh in the review at first, but given it's a new spot, I'm sure they will find their footing, as Chef Dana is a talented individual. One of the worst meals I've had in a while. Had such high hopes because of all of the hype about this place. The food was such a miss. I don't understand how they charge such prices for food like this. I ordered the bread it came out hot on the outside and cold in the middle. They definitely have it in the fridge or frozen, and heat it per order. It was not fresh. The butter tasted like an apple, which was very odd. I ordered two bone marrows. This dish was the only decent thing, but my guest had a bone so shallow that it had only bacon and onions on it, and they melted all the marrow off. For the entrees, we ordered chicken schnitzel, which was $40+ and came soggy, way too hot, as if it had been microwaved. Horrible. The skirt steak was oversalted and tough, with visible muscle fibers, making it inedible. I was disappointed in this. I didn't get dessert. The server was good. I would never come back, unfortunately. The server kept asking if everything was okay, but how do you tell them that the whole meal was bad? I don't know, but hopefully this helps. If they don't make changes fast, I don't see this place staying open for very long, too many good steak houses in LA. read more

I didn't want to believe it.. but the outter breading was not crispy or crunchy AT ALL. It was soggy & soft. Honestly, now I do believe it was microwaved. The steak was bland on the inside (the meat) & the outside was over seasoned. On top of that, many pieces were so chewy & tendon-y, I had to spit it out because it started to chew like gum in my mouth. I couldn't break it up. The side of carrots were very mid & undercooked. Likewise, the creamed spinach was also a huge let down. I'm also a huge creamed spinach fan, but there was nothing creamy about this dish. It tasted more like steamed spinach with garlic, which is fine but just not what I love or look forward to when I order creamed spinach. I didn't even want dessert I was so turned off. Need healthier option of dishes! the chicken dish is fried, so hard to have a non-beef healthy dish. Fish and Chips are also fried. Who wants to eat in GMO seed oil? not me. Definitely needs a fish special option. Constructive feedback,the Mussels appetizer is too small a portion. They need to have a good tomato ketchup for fries, Black Ketchup?? umm seriously? cmon chef, please design a menu for normal people, not yourself. what they have isn't good for everyone. Dana. And her team have a real winner on their hands! Very cozy and intimate interior with tables space in such a way you don't feel crowded. There's a wonderful bar just right for a little socializing and a whistle wetter . The service was on point with friendly and polished folks coordinating orders,drinks and entrees we enjoyed the short rib and creamed spinach (really good and large portions). The bread was interesting and we preferred regular butter, but they serve it with a flavored spread, which was very interesting. Our taste buds were just a little more in tune with plain butter. This is a well oiled machine. It will serve the local community well and my wife and I cannot wait to return, whole experience, was like a big warm hug read more

Was back in LA for the holidays visiting family and we went out to eat here and let me tell you, this is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. I had almost the exact same experience as Scout T., which makes me think the steak issues aren't a one-off. We ordered two steaks (about $90 each) with a table bill around $500. Both steaks arrived cold, never a great start at a steakhouse, and they came out five minutes apart with the cooking instructions mixed up. I get that this is a new restaurant and everyone wants to offer some grace while they find their footing. But when you're treating a friend for her birthday and paying premium prices, the basics really matter: hot food, correct temps, and dishes arriving at the same time. None of this is advanced theory. And poor Scout T. they expressed completely valid frustrations, yet another reviewer told them to "go back to NYC." So I sincerely hope that sharing my own honest concerns won't inspire someone to try to uproot me from California too. The space is beautiful and the concept has real potential, but the kitchen and service need to tighten up if the experience is going to reflect the price point. Since the restaurant says they welcome constructive feedback, here's mine: train the servers to deliver hospitality that is truly genuine, and serve food the way they would accept it at this price point or at any price point, for that matter. I recently had the pleasure of celebrating a milestone birthday for five fabulous girlfriends turning 70 at Wilkes, and it was truly a delightful experience! From the moment we arrived, I was struck by the inviting atmosphere. The music playing as we drove up to valet set a welcoming tone for our evening. The restaurant decor is reminiscent of an old-world steakhouse, yet the food is beautifully contemporary. We settled into a cozy booth and began our culinary adventure with several salads: our favorites were the Wilkes Wedge , and the Tweed Salad. The Wilkes wedge has a twist , unlike others this salad has a light dressing . Both salads were fresh and flavorful and enough to share. We also ordered the mussels which were a highlight for us--the sauce was so delicious that we ordered extra bread for dipping! For our main course, we indulged in the braised short ribs and pork chops, both of which were succulent and cooked to perfection. For our vegetarian friend we made sure we ordered lots of sides. I must mention that the sides were almost a meal in themselves! The creamy spinach, sautéed mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower were absolutely delicious. Of course, it was a celebration, so we raised our glasses with a selection of martinis and wine. We had Butch as our servicer and he was helpful and attentive without being intrusive. We stopped by to check out this new place everyone seems to be talking about and we were fortunate to get a table. They were busy! Our server, Shyer, was so kind and friendly and she greeted us with the most gracious hello and welcome, it made us feel like we were the most important people there. Her suggestions for all of items were exactly what we ordered and not one of them was a bad choice. The Shortribs is so tender that it 'melts' in your mouth. The Fish and Chips are spot on. Don't forget to order the Molasses Bread and the Chocolate Cake, too, you won't be sorry. The rest of the items we ordered were magnificent, the energy and ambiance is amazing and overall it was one of the nicest dinners out we had in a very long time. Beautifully designed and welcoming space--has a buzz without being too noisy. The big booths in the dining room make me want to have one at home! A wedge salad isn't something I usually pick, but it was impeccably assembled so that every bit seemed to have all of the flavors--particularly enjoyed the crispy prosciutto. We shared both the pork chop and the Wagyu strip steak and both came out perfectly to order. Sides were incredibly creamy mashed potatoes and the mushroom au poivre which so tasty and unique--I could have had two of them as a main. The latke chicken schnitzel looked amazing so we'll have to get back for that. The chicken latke schnitzel was outstanding -- crispy, tender, and beautifully balanced. The lobster was beautifully, presented and cooked perfectly-tender, flavorful and plated it in a way that made it just as stunning to look at as it was to eat. We were very hungry and chose not to send them back, but it definitely affected the overall experience. It also seems this may be a recurring issue, based on other reviews I've read which I hope the kitchen addresses. We ordered the steak, the schnitzel, and a few sides. The flavors were interesting and the ketchup twist was unique, but overall the meal felt over-hyped and overpriced for what we received. They also don't offer a printed dessert menu everything is recited by the waiter which made the experience feel a bit unpolished. I've been meaning to write this review since my visit awhile ago. I'm a big fan of Violet, Dana Slatkin's other restaurant, so I was excited to finally check out The Wilkes. It absolutely lived up to what I was hoping for. Dana and her team really know how to create a great vibe. The space is beautiful but relaxed, and nothing feels forced. I especially loved the booths. They're spacious and comfortable and have that old Hollywood feel, like the kind of place you could imagine Swifty Lazar holding court for hours. It feels classic in the best way. Next time, I'm hoping to be seated in the room with the fireplace, which looks incredibly cozy and intimate. The staff was friendly, well trained, and genuinely easy to be around, which always makes a difference. The food was excellent. I ordered the latke chicken schnitzel, which was ridiculously good and perfectly cooked. My friend had the fish and chips and loved it. The chef came over from Violet and previously worked at Animal, and it really shows in how confidently the proteins are handled. Everything was well seasoned and cooked just right. The fries are great, and don't skip the molasses bread to start. I don't drink, but the people I was with really enjoyed their cocktails, and they all looked beautiful. I did notice a few negative reviews while browsing Yelp, and honestly, that feels like a new restaurant finding its footing. That phase deserves a little grace. Beautiful setting and ambiance, but the service was unacceptable. My wife and I came in excited to try the restaurant, but we waited an unusually long time before anyone attended to us. Another server even noticed we had been neglected and asked if we wanted our server. When our server finally arrived, we ordered a single malt, salads as starters, then steak and pub fries. We specifically asked for ketchup and Tabasco with the fries and even emphasized how important those two sauces were for us to enjoy the fries. The server told us she would bring the small bottles typically used for the oysters. Despite that conversation, the ketchup and Tabasco didn't arrive until after we had already finished the fries. We also requested a small taste of a red wine to pair with our steak, and that wasn't handled either, which ultimately prompted us to involve the manager, Shayaan. When we explained how frustrating the experience had been, the manager offered dessert as a gesture. We expressly declined and said we did not want any dessert, but he continued pushing it anyway and then brought what was, frankly, the worst option on the menu. Given the service issues we had just described, it felt dismissive and more insulting than a good will gesture. Unfortunately, the service and the management does not match the expectations set by the decor, ambiance, and prices. I hope they improve quickly. For now, F for service and management. read more

Our family went to The Wilkes, on a whim, last Saturday and we were pleasantly surprised. Two adults and two kids, 8 and 10, and everyone loved it. It's not often that we find an upscale restaurant with acceptable, varied options for both kids - where there isn't a little bit of a fight over what the picky one is eating. We had the opposite problem here and, in fact, my son ate most of my food. We had the molasses bread. Good, warm and an interesting and different butter addition. They gave us the option of a half-loaf which was much appreciated with kids who would, otherwise, eat a loaf of bread for dinner. The olives, nuts and cheese were exactly what you'd expect. Olives are served cold and they're each in three nifty containers, which made sharing (fighting over) the food simpler with two kids. The almonds had a rad seasoning, very good. The crispy cauliflower is breaded well and not overly greasy. It comes with a thick German-style cheese sauce for dipping. The sauce has a small amount of heat to it which complimented the cauliflower well. It's served very hot. There was a crudo special. Honestly, I don't recall what kind it even was (I think Bluefin Tuna) - but my daughter crushed most of it so I didn't get but one bite. I think I enjoyed it but panicked when she dominated the rest of it so I can't remember too well. It was really traumatizing to watch all of it disappear before I could get more and I felt weird about ordering more so I let it go. I'm going to talk to my therapist about it next week. The chicken schnitzel was probably the favorite item across the group. When it arrived my son audibly cheered it and was like, "I want all of that." He could smell it. If you've been (before they closed) it's reminiscent of the Pickle Chicken cutlet from Birdie G's (RIP). Really a good, good piece of chicken that everyone enjoyed. Who knows what's in the dipping sauces, some kind of honey mustard that I finished entirely. The wagyu strip was fantastic as well. Cooked as requested, medium-rare, and served with the caper butter and bordelaise sauces. When you get a nice cut of steak there isn't much to say about it. Just enjoy it. Cooked well, as expected and really good. A solid option to split across the table. We had the creamed spinach and pub fries as sides and both were fantastic. The spinach has an extra garlicy kick and stood out as a little bonus. We had the apple crumble with ice cream and a chocolate cake for dessert. I stayed away because my kids guarded them with the steak knives but they both got finished so I must assume they were good, too. My son also included an affogato. Allen, the wise waiter, suggested the decaf when my son asked for the dessert, knowing full test coffee would wire him for hours. Smart man, Allen. Overall the ambiance is fine dining. All of the staff from the front of house, to wait staff to whoever is cooking it up in there is doing really well. Our waiter, Allen, was awesome too. He was super patient and helpful with our kids, who always have questions and like to order for themselves. He explained everything in detail to them and really made a nice evening for our whole family. Allen is also a resident expert on the history of the place and it's namesake is an homage to the architect who built the space sometime in the 50's. The lighting is a mood-setting sort so, if you're like me and in your 40's with the eyes of a geriatric podiatrist, you might need a bit of extra light to read the menu. They take your order all at once, and space it out for the group. I appreciate that method since it knocks out all the back and forth with ordering. We chose family style, which Allen encouraged, and by the end it was as if Allen the magnificent was a part of our family, too. There were a few date-like 2-seat tables in the middle of the restaurant which might not be the best for family-style sharing but if you're with 4 or more people, just yell out menu items and they will bring them and you'll leave happy. Lastly, it's one of the very few family meals we've had where we didn't take home leftovers. I'm not sure I could give a more ringing endorsement of the quality of food across the board. Nothing is good here. Everything is meh and the service is set to casual. Needs improvement

The restaurant has very poor seating in the back room, especially by the bathrooms. The Server was very rude as we attempted to order two steaks at 6pm and they ran out of them? They gave us larger steaks and charged $168 per steak! Yes $168!! The steaks were fatty and cold as well. The remains food had no flavor, the salad had wilted lettuce. Management hovers over the tables in attempt to turn tables. The crowds will diminish as soon as people realize you are overpriced for below average food and service. I give this place a year to survive. Trust me, go to Baltaire!!!! Please! Where you get great food and service. I do not work for Baltaire but I live in Brentwood and know every restaurant. read more
