I was getting a haircut nearby, so swung into this huge diner in the middle of the day (3 pm)... It had that typical retro feel of a diner, but as the name implies, much bigger than your usual diner. It also had some fancy decor elements as well, though I can tell that this place has been around awhile. One thing that was missing was overhead music (maybe something retro to match the decor?). That would have made a huge difference in the dining experience. The place was very quiet...TOO quiet for a diner? (But then, Yes, it was 3 pm!) Thankfully, there were only 2-3 active tables scattered in this huge diner, and I was happily socially distanced. I was also happy with their lofty menu, offering lotsa choices. After some indecision, I decided to go with Chicken & Waffles. Turned out to be a great choice! What made it so good was that they topped the Chicken with some carmelized Bacon (and powdered sugar). DEE-Lish...and quite a big Dish!! I deliberately stopped myself from eating the monster-big plate (since I had a dinner date planned the same day). Definitely ranks as one of the better Chicken & Waffle dishes I've had in the past few years. Service was really good too...just as you'd expect from a friendly, hometown diner. Anyway, this was a surprisingly delightful diner experience. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely consider revisiting! read more

Big View Diner was an excellent place for a middle of the week meal and wine for 8 years. Since it has been sold, the food is not the same and the service is the worst I have ever had! My husband and I ordered Brunch of Omelets after Church today. My husband got my "Farmer John's" omelet. It had his sliced tomatoes & my toast. I got D's "Western" omelet with his fried potatoes & my diced fruit. 1 very small sausage ball was the side instead of the usual 3 patties. I had a wonderful experience today for breakfast here. This place has been around a long time and the service has always been down to earth, friendly, and welcoming. They have a counter to sit at, diner-style. Or a huge selection of booths and tables. This restaurant is owned by good people and that reflects in the consistency over the years. The menu has changed over time, but the excellence of food and service is still the same, great experience. This is in Pineville not far from Charlotte and Close to Lancaster, SC. Visited this place three times to really give it a chance. Service: great! Servers and hostesses are polite and welcoming. Ambiance: diner is cutesy and comfortable. Crowd: very heavy on the passionate MAGA side. Not sure how else to explain this. Makes you feel a bit uncomfortable when you overhear loud conversations on politics, which seem to happen a lot. Not feeling the one sidedness of the crowd. Food: zero stars. Everything is undercooked and there is no flavor. The breakfast potatoes are raw and wet, the pancakes undercooked and oily, and everything tastes just BLAND. You patronize a restaurant for the food and this is not it. Avoid is my advice. read more

So after one year i revisited the diner again to order a cake and wow. the same disappointment as this Diner has continued to drop in Quality and service in so many ways. Multiple owners over the last few years coupled with lack of quality customer service and inept management make this a hard NO. If management doesn't know what the cake bakers are able to make and/or not make, it doesn't give me the comfort level that the leadership knows how operations work. Our family went yesterday, Saturday, to celebrate my Mom's 87th birthday. The service was good. The atmosphere was good, we had young children, and it's a family type restaurant and environment. I must say we were disappointed with our food. I had the grilled salmon, mash potatoes and broccolini. I ate the salmon, couldn't eat the other. The potatoes looked and tasted as though they were warmed over and over again. They were actually a grayish color. My mother could not eat her Reuben sandwich. It was too crispy. Actually the toast and corned beef were over heated/toasted-it was actually hard to the touch. There were several other complaints. We used to come here often, but the food has really failed us lately. I hope this helps them consider seeking help maybe for their chefs or cooks. Btw, my mother was served last, the birthday girl! No special recognition was given for this occasion. I will say again, the waitress was a good server considering it was 15 of us. It was late on a Saturday nite and we wanted diner food. We decided to check out Big View Diner because we wanted breakfast! It was full but yet we were still able to be seated right away. Place was large and clean. Definitely not your typical diner atmosphere, it was a nice late night meal:) Service and Waitress was wonderful! My hubby had omelet with grits. He was very pleased with his food. My son had kids steak medium, it came out well done and rubbery. I would not recommend that from the kids menu. I decided to get the fish flounder sandwich. It was really good, I'm not a fan of Panko flouring but still it was good. The portion size was huge! A little pricey for a diner, but hey it's in Ballantyne! We had the raspberry cake for dessert. It was beautiful but just ok. We will visit again and recommend you give them a try as well! read more

Big View Diner is owned by the Xenia Hospitality Group which also owns the two area Ilios Noche's in Charlotte. Xenia is Greek which means "hospitality and/or generous" which describes both the menu and the large plates of food we received. It is truly a large-scale throwback to Northeast diners which dotted Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York in the 60's and 70's, especially near large metro areas. All the classics are represented on the menu and clearly there's a lot to try requiring more visits. I ordered a burger (1/2 pound, yikes!) with fries and Lori the chicken parmesan with same. Both were just OK. Fries were plentiful but limpy and the burger seemed clearly a frozen patty from Sysco (if not, it sure tasted it). Just mediocre. Service was perky and happy. While there is no "view," both the menu and place are certainly big and inviting. Since I mostly dine out for breakfast, I'll give 'em another whirl. In the meantime, you might, too. read more

We attended the grand reopening this evening and had high hopes for an improvement over the previous management. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. My wife ordered a BLT and got a sandwich with one piece of lettuce, one tomato slice and about eight pieces of bacon. Not good. Her French onion soup was watery and without much flavor. My salmon was overcooked and overly salty. The Brussels sprouts were burned. I hope that they can turn things around. We'll give it another try in a few weeks to let them get the kinks out. read more

I cant lie we were iffy on eating here; the yelp reviews were meh. But we decided to go in the end. I have to say it was a great decision!!! The food was BOMB! We tried the mac and cheese balls w/tomato bacon jam, My boyfriend got the balsamic salmon and i got the chicken souvlaki platter. All of it was amazing!! I will say the service is a bit slow, but it is a huge restaurant and it was packed! So be patient because its worth the wait. We also got dessert. HOEEEMAHHHHGAWDDD! Chef Caitlin did her THANG! Great breakfast here with buckets of coffee. Our waitress really didn't mind that we sat here for two hours after finishing, but once the queue started to form at the door, we decided to move along. I chose the Farmed Tom omelet and substituted tomatoes for potatoes. No toast for me as I'm still enjoying my keto diet. We haven't been here since they were taken over by new owners. We stopped in on a Wednesday evening (around 7pm). Told the young man at the front that we'd grab seats at the bar. I went to the restroom, and came back. We waited 15 minutes and no one came to greet us. So we went back to the front and were seated in a booth. Our server was pleasant and greeted us right away. We ordered food and a slice of coconut cake to go. When our food came out I immediately noticed that mine was not right and asked the server to take it back. My husband's order was wrong as well, but he decided to just eat around the stuff that he didn't want. My 2nd plate came back correct and piping hot. The coconut cake was different than what is used to be (coconut cream instead of coconut), but still tasty. All in all, our experience was less than great, and sadly, we probably won't go back. read more

11 am on a Saturday, I placed a to-go order on the phone and walked in and paid right after. The woman working the counter was not paying very good attention because while I waited I watched them mess up an order and someone complain that they had been waiting 40 minutes for one to-go meal. After waiting about 30 minutes I see them bring out to-go food that matches my order, put it in a bag, and leave it on the counter. I thought it must not be mine since I'm standing right in front of them and just paid they would've given it to me. 20 more minutes pass and I start to look around and don't see anyone else waiting on to-go food. I stand and start trying to make eye contact with the manager who finally comes over to check on the bag that had been sitting there for 20 minutes and it was mine. When I go to grab it from the woman at the counter she asks me to pay... the food is now cold and soggy, I've lost over an hour waiting for my food. I would not recommend this place. read more

What a disappointing experience. We always look forward to a great meal and great service after our tax appointment in the area at the Big View. We were surprised to see the parking lot nearly empty. Still, we went in and looked forward to a great meal. My husband, who NEVER complains, had to send his food back. Then they started cleaning with the strongest smelling chemicals that made it nearly impossible to eat. I see that ownership has changed hands and all I can say is that I doubt they will be in business much longer. There is a reason the parking lot was empty. Never again. What a shame. This used to be mine and my husband's favorite restaurant. Not any longer. We arrived around 1:30 ish on a Sunday afternoon and requested to sit at the bar. The bar was full of dirty plates and food on the floor. A girl who looked as if she hated her job slowly walked by and was bussing tables. She never uttered a word that maybe someone would be with us soon. Literally should have walked out at that point. After about 15 minutes I finally got up to ask if anyone was working the bar. I was told (by the guy who walked right by us a few minutes before that looked like maybe a manager) that yes someone would be with us soon, but it was a change of shift and no one would be there till 2pm. What!???! Who does this? Finally someone came out to take our drink order. Then a bit later he took our food order. Food was okay not great and certainly not worth the amount we paid for it. My chicken in my salad was dry and hard. (Poor chicken gave up its life for that) Bartender never came back to refill our drinks but instead talked to a customer sitting at a nearby table for about 15 minutes while I sat thirsty. Just absolutely no common courtesy or care for the customer. I will never go there again. read more

I attended a breakfast with several friends. The service was average, and my food arrived warm. They automatically added a 22% tip. I paid by credit card. Four hours later, my bank notified me that my card had been compromised, and they canceled it and would issue a new one.
