Great food and Great vibes from Big Wa today! Been craving Chinese food for a long time and a classmate of mine recommended I stop by Big Wa. I see why this has been one of her favorite spots for a long time. Stepping in I was warmly greeted and mentioned to them that this waa my first time there. The gentleman took the time to point out items on the menu. I went with the chop suey and he asked me if I wanted the lunch portion as it came with a vegetable roll. I went with the lunch portion as well as added four crab wonton. I love that they had a smaller portion as I was riding solo today! My food came out with the quickness and with a smile from another staff member that told me to come back anytime. And you know what?!? I so will! The portion of my chop queue with chicken was ample and the sauce that it was stirred in was just the right amount of sweet and savory! I was able to split it into two meals and I enjoyed every bite! Just good enough for a cheaper Chinese food option given the pricing in today's day and age. Fair sized portions and you get a complimentary soup. It was dead when I first walked in and then multiple tables walked in right after me, you can tell they were regulars by the way they interacted with the server. Service was kind, prompt and communicative from the Asian male. I really enjoyed his overall demeanor. The establishment was average clean and it was nice to have booth seating by the window. Which place was a traditional Chinese food lunch place service was OK. I don't really have anything great to say about the visit but that doesn't mean I have anything really bad to say it was just a Chinese food place. Me being from Chicago. We take Chinese food very seriously this did not satisfy my Chinese food craving that I have been going through. I Have a couple other places on my radar that I'm hoping satisfied that craving. One negative to this place as they did not have the traditional gravy on the egg foo was very disappointed. It was more of a syrup sauce not a gravy. But overall, I think service could've been better and one other weird thing is they did not have any knives so to spend a lot of my time trying to cut my food with my fork. read more

I've been coming here for 9 years, but after this visit, I might just stop eating out altogether. While the food still tastes good, the portions have significantly decreased--they're about half of what they used to be--and the prices have gone up by at least 15%. To make matters worse, there was no gravy in my food today. I'm really disappointed. I don't get to this side of town often, so when I do, I look forward to this meal. They have raised the prices for food tremendously yet they give less of what you ordered. I ordered curry scallops, there were about 6-8 scallops with loads of onions and green pepper @ $18.75!!! Most places offering lunch specials or Combos use a Spring roll which is cheaper, so because Big Wa promised egg roll instead we trusted them and ordered delivery. Our go to spot used to be Hong Kong Diner on Ray and Rural so if you liked theirs- this is similar We recently changed it up due to Lent and our dishes hit the spot. For the past three years I have been on a hunt to find a Chinese restaurant that had the best egg drop soup, pan fried noodles, and orange chicken. I have actively gone to a new place every other month and Big Wa has put an end to my search. Great service, clean atmosphere, and amazing food/prices. I got the lunch special orange chicken that included an egg roll fried rice and a soup. the pan fried noodles aren't too thick the broth was perfect consistency and their egg drop soup had a generous amount of egg with the perfect shade of yellow. The orange chicken is crispy and the sauce is amazing. The egg roll was lacking in flavor but most likely because it was the cabbage veggie one instead of with meat which I know will be great. Friendly and fast, but totally Americanized Chinese food. If that is your jam you'll be happy. First time here and moved in around the corner 8 months ago. Got 3 lunch specials, sesame chicken, orange chicken and Kung pao chicken, plus 2 pork egg rolls and chicken fried rice. Price was great. $43 for all. There is no difference in taste between the sesame chicken and orange chicken. Both have a honey or corn syrup based sweet sauce. Tasting them side by side, no difference in flavor. No orange flavor, no sesame flavor, but chicken was hot and crunchy. Very much like a chicken nugget in sweet sauce. Kung pao chicken had a little kick to it and was better than the other two. Chicken fried rice bland, but passable after adding soy sauce. Pork egg rolls tasted like day old farts, that's always my issues with egg rolls, the cabbage fermentation is just not my thing. I ordered the orange chicken special that comes with fried rice, an egg roll, and a crab Rangoon. I was a little nervous ordering delivery because sometimes it can get to you and be soggy. Not this orange chicken, it was fried to the utmost crispy and crunchy texture - spicy with a hint of sweetness. The fried rice was excellent - it doesn't come with vegetables in it, it's browned rice with egg. Honestly I'm glad it lacking the veggies I think it would take away from orange sauce. I also love that the crab Rangoon has green onion in it. It gives it this extra savory flavor...can I order and have it delivered to TX on a weekly basis?!
