About a third of the tables had patrons, and I was able to be seated right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a combination of booths and tables with the back room able to seat some larger parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the Country Steak & Sausage Gravy 2 Egg Platter. It came with a cat head biscuit and the country fried steak was small and about the same diameter as the biscuit (see photo). But since it came with a muffin, and I added a side of 2 sausage patties, the meal was still filling. All items seemed to be good quality, properly cooked, and had decent flavors. The square blueberry "muffin" was very moist and a great flavor. They use big tumblers for soft drinks. The only item that wasn't great was the lemon slices in my drink: the rind was spotty and tinged with brown and the fruit texture and color showed too much age. My server was very inattentive and spent too much time watching the big screen TV. It took her a long time to take my order, she provided no refills, did not check in during my meal for any needs (the jelly caddy had two empty sections and my table had no strawberry jelly), it took a long time to get my check, and a long time to process payment. read more

Atypical BBQ with a chunky saucy sauce. It was so different and I had to scratch my head a bit and figure out if I liked it or loved it. I think I'm still scratching my head. I like this place and would totally come back! Ribs are fall off the bone and more moist than dry. It was a good experience for me. I ordered the special which was brisket with collard greens and field peas. The brisket wasn't cooked long enough. It was too rubbery and didn't just fall apart with your fork. You had to get at it hard with your knife. It was bland unfortunately. The greens weren't much better. They really needed seasoning. The field peas were the shining star here. I did try the cornbread, but it was too dry, like the brisket. It's like they precook everything and let it sit out and dry. People would rather wait longer for a better product. read more

Used to be my go to place for breakfast. Last 2 times it has been horrible! Cold food and tasteless. Coffee is just hot brown water.. No taste. Seems as though they are trying to run all their old regulars off with bad quality fare. Services still good with pleasant waitresses who are always ready to refill water or coffee. Not going back! Ok guys this place here... where do I start. On yesterday sept 17 2023 I arrived at restaurant for dinner and wasn't impressed. I started with the onion rings and they were delicious. I ordered the 2 meat plate brisket and ribs with sides of baked beans and potato salad. Brisket was very dry and paper thinly sliced. Ribs and sliced brisket lacked a smoky flavor leading me to believe the bbq is cooked in an oven. The baked beans were just ok, and the potato salad was just flat out not good! I would not order the brisket again. Dry and tough. The bottom was black, so I'm guessing they reheated it on a frying pan or something. No real flavor. Pork. Ok, average. I was so happy to find this place a few months back. My fiancé and I rarely go out to eat anymore, because of COVID obviously, but we were out running errands one day and decided we would try to find a place to grab a bite if we could pull it off safely. We were originally going to try to do Sunday brunch at The Flying Biscuit nearby, but boy, was that a mistake! That place was packed, COVID or not, and there was a line out the door with a 45-minute wait. We were already hungry and didn't want to risk the potential exposure from the crowd, so we decided to see what else was nearby that we haven't really tried. This place popped up on our suggestions, so we thought we'd give it a shot. We never knew this place was tucked away in the corner that it's at - a hidden gem really. It was not nearly as crowded as the other restaurant, as we could see from the outside lot, so we decided to go for it - agreeing again to leave at any point if we felt unsafe in terms of potential exposure. When we got inside we were thankful there was plenty of room to spread out and everyone was abiding by CDC guidelines. We ended up ordering the onion rings to share, soup and side salad for my starters, the country fried steak with green beans and macaroni for me, and the bacon burger with macaroni on the side for my love. The meal came with cornbread and we ordered apple cobbler a la mode for dessert. Everything was great! I don't think there's one thing we didn't like. I love the style of onion rings that they make - perfectly crispy in a tower. My country fried steak and mac were especially good - you can taste the difference when it's homemade and less processed for sure. The portions are huge here, so expect leftovers like we had. There were no real issues at any point of the meal. Our waitress was sweet and attentive the whole time. I found part of an apple stem and seeds in the cobbler, but the waitress was nice enough to comp us for it. At least we knew that meant they were using fresh apples! Overall, it was a great experience - comfort food in a cozy setting, like a Cracker Barrel vibe, but with even more down-home vibes and cooking. Can't wait to try other items from here. Maybe, we'll try the drive-thru out front next time - a nice touch for safety and convenience in these times. I hate even giving this office 2 stars as I feel it is too high of a score. I took my team here for lunch. I asked the waitress multiple times if the country fried steak came in chicken. She assured me it was chicken. When the meal arrive it was beef and not chicken. When I pointed out to the waitress that it was not chicken her reply was "steak is chicken" wow. I sent the meal back and addressed my complaint to the manager. After speaking with the manager it was obvious that he really didn't care. In all honesty, not my favorite BBQ restaurant but it is not horrible. The place inside looks like an outdated log cabin and bit dark and dreary. When we first arrived, the place was empty so I was not expecting much but the staff was very welcoming and our waitress Jessica was the sweetest. All of us in my group chose the the pick 2 meats and 2 sides combo and they were just ok. Part of my food was somewhat cold/lukewarm and the other was burning hot. Portions were large, presentation ok and flavor... a bit lacking but not the worst, just decent. As we were there, more dinners began to fill the restaurant, all were mostly an older crowd but many seemed to be loyal and regulars to the place so that must mean they must be doing something right. Maybe once upon a time this place was great. Maybe once upon a time there wasn't much else around. Regardless, I don't know how they've remained open as long as they have if what should have been a can't miss staple of any decent BBQ joint--the classic pulled pork plate--was as mediocre as mine was...which included the weird chunky BBQ sauce. When I moved to California, I often missed how I could find excellent BBQ everywhere in Atlanta...even the less beloved spots in Atlanta still were superior to what was considered "the best" in California. The sad pile of mush I received at J.R.'s more resembled soggy cereal, and again, the unusual chunky "sauce" lacked all of the zing and excitement of the sauces one usually finds at a legit Q spot. read more

I always drive by here and see so many cars, so I wanted to try it! I suppose their barbecue is really good, but I tried their breakfast and it was just okay. I got the "Everything" omelette but it seemed it was just piled full of ham, onions, and a ton of green peppers. It didn't feel very balanced and it definitely didn't feel like it had everything. We ended up here due to a mix up in the Pappadeaux location. We were meeting friends for birthday brunch and confirmed they were at the Alpharetta location. That's a bit far so we cancelled and came here. We haven't eaten here in 6 or 7yrs but nothing has changed. I ordered veggie omelette with hash browns and my husband ordered the Leonard's Favorite which consist of 1 pancake (huge) meat of choice, 2 eggs. Total for both meals $15.
