Note: I am sparing on 5 star reviews. With that caveat the Best TexMex I have had in the Pensacola area. Chips were light and crispy, the house sales was thick with very good flavor. The draft Negro Modelo was fresh & crisp & cold served with the perfect head. I had the fried chimichanga - my bench mark for testing TexMex restaurants. I had with the carne asada Chimi (the call it their grilled Chimi). While IDidn't care for the internal sauce ( personal preference) but still very good. Staying with the best deals in town, Wyndie and I ate here Tuesday night for taco Tuesday. We both had the beef taco special and the free chips and dip! Since they've opened years ago, we've been many many times. Other than the convenience factor of proximity to our house, BigOtes is not comparable to other Mexican restaurants in Pensacola. Their service is hit or miss, their food is very much only okay, the price is terribly expensive for the quality and sometimes the amount of food you receive. For example, my go-to menu item is a fajita taco salad. At BigOtes is costs $18 and is one of the smallest shells and therefore salads that I've eaten at a Mexican restaurant. The food was decent, rice was a little mushy. The refried beans were great. Salsa is good but I prefer more cilantro flavor over their Mexican oregano heavy flavor. Chips are light and tasty. Stopped in for a margarita and to-go order. I sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes before anyone made as much as eye contact. The host ended up coming by to take my order. The lone bar staff walked by 3 times... there was only one other couple at the bar with the rest of the restaurant fairly slow. Maybe she's new... I'd wait to rate the food, but I've seen enough to not come back. A simple hello, or even a glimpse of eye contact seems a minimal customer service expectation. read more

First time visitor and it was an early lunch on a Monday. The staff were extremely friendly snd accommodating . Nice and quaint restaurant and the menu offers a wide variety. I'm a fan of a traditional dish and they didn't disappoint. A very good place to try if you are in the area. read more

Waited about 30 minutes for service before we had to get up and tell a new server who wasn't busy that we were ready to order as our first server was just on their phone. Proceeded to get a bean burrito with pico and guac. Which came out to $16 before tip as the pico and guac were counted as separate items instead of being inside the burrito like asked. The server we got was very kind and did fix an order mistake where the cooks made a beef burrito by accident and was fast with the service. read more

I've had a couple of bad experiences in the past, but have came back a couple of times giving this place a chance. I'd like to say the last couple of times have redeemed my previous ratings. First, the chips and salsa has been perfect. Theo chips are thin and hot and their salsa is fresh. Today, I ordered the carnitas plate and the carnitas was cooked perfectly with the right amount of char. The portions were nice and the beans, rice, and guacamole was excellent. Great food! Always!! Mgr /owner is a +++ the shrimp tacos are the best of course with extra avocado on top with sour cream! Salsa and cheese dip is also yummy start to your amazing meal! Top shelf large Margarita is well worth the $1 more. Chips are hot and thin with good salsa. And the Pollo Loco is good and cheesy but has way too many onions. The food here was good, but that's about where it stops. Our waitress/bartender did not know what was in the Cadillac margarita on their menu. Their drink menu has no prices. So you have no idea what will cost unless you ask. I inquired about the smsll Cadillac margarita and she said it was $7.99, but she got a manager to come over to explain that it was the house margarita with a shot of Grand Marnier. My friend and I ordered it. It came as a large and I only drank half of it. We watched her pour it out of a picture into the glass and then attach the extra shot. There was nothing special or custom about this drink. When the bill came, our burritos were $14.99 each, but the drink had increased to $18.99, from $7.99. I asked the manager about the sharp price increase and he tried to explain that it only comes in a large and asked if I had lived here long and understood how things cost. He tried to explain about how ice cubes at the Kennedy downtown are expensive. It was a very odd and ridiculous way to try and explain the cost of the drink. Literally for a large house margarita with a shot of Grand Marnier it was $18.99. It was crazy. We gave him our credit cards and he came back and said that he had taken 10% off the price. My take away was never trust a place that doesn't list prices on the menu and try and be sure that the server/bartender knows what is in the various drinks, and how much they may be. Our burritos were good and filled with meat and other ingredients. No complaints on the food. Just the service and drink prices left a lot to be desired. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you go inside the Mexican decor is everywhere, makes it a good environment. The service was very quick, from being sat, to getting our food. I got the Asada plate with rice and beans. The meat was very flavorful and tender. The rice and beans were slightly above average. My only complaint about the food was the flour tortillas, they were not homemade and that can be a buzzkill at Mexican restaurants for me. The flavor of the everything else was good, but the factory tortillas is something that all Mexican restaurants should get rid of. Overall, I recommend making a stop here if you are looking for a chill spot with friends or family. read more

We were really excited to try this new restaurant. The chips and salsa were very good. The chips were fresh and the salsa had good heat. The Queso Was kinda bland. Needs a jalapeño or some chili's. The beef tacos were very yummy and had a lot of cheese. The carnitas were awesome. The corn tortillas were fresh. The margaritas were good, not the best. The Cadillac margarita was better then the top shelf. Both needed fruit. The water tasted funny, we've experienced that other restaurants. Server was so rude. She criticized my 6yr olds order. And even talked to the rest of the table about how his order was weird. But honestly the food just sucked. It was a slow day and I think there was just one waitress in the restaurant; she provided excellent service. Don't know why this is a 4.5 star rating. Wife had the Tuesday Taco deal with chicken. Hard shells seemed like they were bought at the store. Chicken was tough and dry. Inedible. Son had a taco salad with chicken and he toughed his way through half of it (he was hungry) ‍ I had the lunch burrito (meat) with rice and beans and it was very good. Chips and salsa also good. Told our server about the chicken and he said it was dry so the juice didn't soak the shells ‍ From and currently live in Texas and lived in Cali for 20 years and know authentic Mexican food and this is far from it. 5 stars on all the TV's around the inside. read more

I did not care for this restaurant. We were driving through from Texas. Although we have only been here one time the food was no bueno. No flavor and the meat was over cooked. Queso was decent. And it was fairly overpriced for what we got. Maybe it was just the dishes we got?!? Who knows but how hard is it to make quesadillas and tacos. I was served avocados that were brown. First of all, great service from Emma. We stopped in as we were staying locally and yelp reviews were good. Emma told us her favorites when asked. She also clarified the fresh made guacamole(it was not tableside but we didn't realize it would be made fresh for us when ordered). We loved the chips as they were light. The salsa had a bite but not too spicy. Fresh made guacamole was amazing with lots of fresh chunks of avocado. We ordered Pollo Loco. Emma said this was a popular dish. Our intent was to share it. Having had the guac, this dish was great to share. It was AMAZING! Husband is not overly vocal about food but commented immediately how delicious it was. I cannot express enough how delicious it was. It was perfect for us to share. We even bought a little home and had it for breakfast the next day. Will def go here again if in the area. Also, the decor is absolutely beautiful.
