We went to the wrong place! Taco Mex is a taqueria that you enter through the super market. We went into the big obvious restaurant entrance. We saw the taqueria after we finished our lunch. Bummer! The restaurant, Vallarta's, really caters to patrons seeking Americanized Mexican food. While it appears that Taco Mex serves authentic Mexican cuisine. The food we ate was okay. The service was okay, too. I'm sure we would have been much happier had we found the taqueria before dining in the restaurant next door. Live and learn. I went to Vallartas June 29 2025, it was packed out, hard to find a parking spot. I ordered a beef Enchilada and a beef Taco. Order came out and began to eat, I noticed that they started putting "Filler" in the meat to "Stretch it" there were cubes of potato and carrots in the meat of my Enchilada and Taco. On another issue, my wife wanted an Adult size order of chicken fingers (It wasn't on the menu but the children's portion of chicken fingers were), they said they didn't have an Adult size portion but only a Child's portion, they said it would be $3.00 more because an "Adult" was eating it instead of a Child ( Same size portion) Also there is a lot of renovation going on presently so I guess it needs to be paid for somehow. Who would think that there would be "Vegetables" in the meat filling, hopefully no one has an allergy to anything. read more

I'd like to start with my waitress was not very attentive. The food was mediocre at best, it might look appetizing but the taste not so much. I ordered the burrito supreme, and the beef in it was sweet. sweet beef? no. also the rice tasted like it was air fried and super dry, dry rice is a no no. It looked like it was recently remolded, had a crazy amount of tv's and everything was so spaced but cramped?. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it seems the churchgoers flock here afterwards. This is a very large place with plenty of seating so it wasn't crowded. My server was friendly and answered all my questions. Now to the reason we're here, I LOVEEEEEEE the horchata, it was the perfect balance of cinnamon and rice milk. My food was ok just a bit too salty for me. Would I return? Yes because I'm sure I'll NEED more of that horchata when I come back to Pensacola. This Mexican Grill is attached to a Mexican Grocery/Meat Market and Taqueria. Loved the colors in the this place, reminded us of Cozumel. After being seated, we checked out the multiple Margarita choices as well as the extensive Tequila List. I chose the 32 oz Top Shelf Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita to share and it did not disappoint. We shared the Empanadas, 1 of each, (Chicken, Beef and BBQ.), not bad but the best was yet to come. Shrimp & Fish Ceviche had such a great flavor and texture. Mexican Shrimp Cocktail was stuffed to the brim with succulent shrimp, Pico and Avocado, so satisfying. My wife ate the Spinach and Chicken quesadilla and really enjoyed the freshness. Already planning our next meal. I did buy Tablitas from the Meat Market and had a great meal from my Traeger. I really used to like this place but these days the service was disappointing I ordered one thing got something else and was told it was my fault I know what I ordered sir sorry you felt the need to blame me but to not even offer to have it redone or anything, just say whatever not acceptable when it's my money hence the reason your tip sucked. Food was bland I'm sure had I got what I ordered it may have been better but was pretty disappointing all the way around. Lots of other places to spend my hard earned cash think I'll give them a try. We had Margarita's, Beef Nachos and Fajita's. All were excellent. The only minor complaint I had was that I asked for fairly heavy jalapenos on the nachos and there were next to none. I really like a bite of jalapeno on each nacho. We will try again and see if the waitress can get this right. read more

So....i convinced my wife to try something new. Chips were overcooked. Also had no dice and reminded me of pizza sauce. I ordered fish tacos (recommended by the waitress) and there was no fish.....see image. It looked like the breading off the fish thrown into a tortilla. My wife had something steak based. My Queen and I have eaten here a few times. We have been pleasantly pleased with the overall experience every single time. This time the jalapeno salsa stole the show. This place used to be a pretty good Mexican restaurant. The food was always delicious and consistent. Over the past few years I've noticed, however, that the plate of food you get depends on what night you go. The kitchen appears to be schizophrenic. The same dish may be cooked completely differently every time you go. Several months ago, the second the last time we went there, the chicken in my enchiladas appeared to have been sitting out for hours before being rolled in the tortillas. My tamale was almost completely made of masa and dry. My wife's ceviche was totally tasteless. We ended up just paying the bill and leaving without eating. Because we had enjoyed their food for many years, we decided to give them one more chance a couple of months later. When ordering, I asked the waiter if they could possibly bring my wife a small sample of the ceviche to see if it was any better and if she wanted to order it. He went to the kitchen and returned advising that the ceviche is made to order and he couldn't bring a sample. I couldn't believe it! Their ceviche, which is supposed to be marinated for hours in lime juice and seasonings, is made to order. No wonder it was absolutely tasteless. After being told that, we just got up and left and have not returned. It's a shame because it used to be so good. read more

We have been heavy regulars there for the last 5 years or so and prior to that we have been going off and on since the old place next door. Since the recent makeover (personally I prefer the old school Mexican decor to the NEW "Cozumel" ) I have found the service to be terrible. We prefer to sit at the bar most occassions. It was 40 minutes before some one came and cleaned up the spot where we wanted to sit. I moved eveything out of the way and cleaned it myself again just pushing away the leftover dishes from the previous patrons. It was 20 minutes to get a drink. Its not like we go there once a year. It was busy but not that busy. We are there 1 to 2 times a week normally Fridays and Saturdays. THEY KNOW US, but this weeks service was the worst ever. Coming from California I have not had high expectations for Mexican food here and every place has fallen short. Until Vallarta's! The menu is extensive. If you can't find something to try you don't like Mexican food. Chips and salsa is always a foretelling on how good a Mexican restaurant is going to be and I'm a fan! Love that they bring you two salsa bowls and a mini salsa pitcher to fill them up with so you don't have to keep asking for more salsa cuz like...chips and salsa are life! Despite all the chips and salsa I tend to love nachos. They're like a good group for me. These did not disappoint and they were huge! I have a good 3/4 left to warm up in the air fryer for dinner. My honey loved his combo plate, which was a lunch special and still brought home food with him too! I can't wait to go have a margarita there. I think we found our new local Mexican spot! read more

The first thing we noticed was just the absolute beauty of the building. Our waitress was very polite & told us specials and was very attentive. The food well it was delicious. The ceviche, the shrimp cocktail, the salsa and I loved my one chicken & spinach quesadilla! Yes one quesadilla and it was the perfect size just for me! Yummy We loved our visit here at the restaurant. It will be one of our favorite places. It's really beautiful inside and the bar area is huge. I've never been the type that wants Mexican food very often, but when the hankering hits... OOWEE, it comes barreling through like a MACK Truck. After hearing so many locals rave about this place, I found it odd that the comments did not match up with the Yelp reviews. But, I thought I'd go ahead and give it a go just so I could see for myself. First off, the restaurant is massive and so is the bar area. Definitely a spacious, festive vibe going on. When I was sat at my table, instantaneous someone to bring the complimentary chips and salsa, then disappeared. Their menu is quite large which kept me occupied for several minutes. But, I quickly decided to order enchiladas, as that is typically the dish I use to measure how good a Mexican restaurant is. Everything went downhill from there. It took 30 minutes for me to flag someone down who could find my server so I could order my beverage and food. After waving down the third employee my server finally comes over to take my drink order. I went with the Pineapple Agua Fresca. I went ahead and ordered my meal, the Enchiladas Rancheras, because I didn't know how long it would take for her to return. It took 40 minutes for the food to come out, which is absurd because it was a SLOW night. There were 8 tables occupied and 10 staff members hanging out in various areas of the restaurant; by the soda fountain, in the bar area, checking their cell phones in the corner - basically anywhere except tending to their tables or checking to see if food was ready. When I received my food I was starving and just ready to scarf it down and go. Upon first bite, I couldn't believe my taste buds so I went for a second bite. It was laden with salt to the point where the dish itself was slightly bitter. It was a disaster. I tried eating it with sour cream and lettuce, I tried scraping some of the sauce off, nothing seemed to help. The fact that I had waited over an hour for such horrible food was the ultimate letdown. Needless to say I declined the to-go box and left hungry as well. Piss poor service + subpar food = I'm not coming back. Note to Self: Follow the guidance of Yelp reviews. read more

This is a solid restaurant, a good family restaurant. Out of the Mexican Restaurants in the area I would say it is one of the better ones food quality and taste wise. Service wise it can be hit or miss, I wish they would train their servers better. It is either you wait forever or they are Speedy Gonzales, I have never experienced the sweet spot. The decor is fun, the atmosphere is good, they have live music. However, if you want to talk with someone ask to be seated away from the speakers of the live guy. The live music is usually blaring because the place is so big. I would think you can put the music at a reasonable volume and at the same time pump it through your sound system so all could hear it at a volume you could talk at. With one Margherita each, a Guacamole starter and two dishes we were looking at $100 w/tip for two at dinner. read more
