Definitely got lost in the moment and didn't take pictures of the food - my bad, but I would recommend coming here, especially if you have kids. I ordered a single patty with grilled jalapeños as an add on and avocado as an add on too - but they ended up giving me bacon instead of the avocado. I was told that I was never charged on the original ticket for avocado and would have to be recharged if I wanted it added on, so I decided to just skip the avocado. I also ordered medium rare for my patty, and it was mostly medium rare but some corner pieces felt like they were bordering on medium rare-rare territory. The burger was HUGE though, and it was super duper filling. They also put the lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles that come with every burger on the side. I also liked the fries my boyfriend got. I loved the ambiance because the restaurant looks like it's a barn on the outside, and the inside is huge like a BBQ restaurant would be with options for booth but also long long long table seating, which came in handy for people who had reserved them for graduation parties this weekend. We sat outside in the back, and it was actually not too hot. It worked out because my boyfriend's family also had 2 little toddlers who could run around and play with the rest of the kids who were just coming back from whatever sports practice they had. You have to pick up your food from the counter after they announce your name on the loud speakers, so there's not much to the service aspect, but it's nice that they give you drink refills. read more

Given that Big'z had a 3.5 average rating, I was pleasantly surprised upon my first visit there! Considering the cavernous size of the restaurant, I guess that service suffers when it's full. I was there mid-day on a Tuesday so it wasn't an issue for me. Had their #1 Single Burger and a Chicago dog that the graciously changed to a simpler mustard & chopped onion dog. The dog was grilled (nice!) and was a Vienna Beef dog sans the casing (half-cheer). Burger was nice and thick, a great change from the smashburger-style that I see all over town. Big thumbs up from me. Atmosphere is really more like a big gymnasium, but don't let that deter you from a good burger and dog. :-) This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Was really pleasantly surprised here! The burger was really cooked to perfection and the sweet potato fries were amazing. It's really hard for me to find good sweet potato fries around here that have more than just salt .. they usually have a variety of spices I can't have. Since I've developed an allergy to regular white potatoes (yes really!) I've really been missing fries and so these sweet potato fries hit the spot for me. The burger was not overly greasy and the cheddar on it was so tasty. I felt like I was eating real food which honestly you can't say about a lot of places today. The patty is dry and too salty for my taste, but I do appreciate the thick patty, soft bun, and fresh veggies that come with it. It was so great the burger really HUGE living up to the name bigz burger, you really pay for your portion because while it was pricey it was a huge burger and lots of fries. The only reason I rate it a four is because I love lemonade and the lemonade I got was so watery but everything else was perfect. It was very moist super messy but delicious. They have such a big menu and a HUGE restaurant very spaced out ambiance and good vibes lots of families. The service was great everyone was polite and they check up on you while you are eating even tho there's an order desk. Would definitely go again!!!! Had a group party here during us grand opening week on UTSA Blvd, and we allll had such a great time! Converting an old dance hall to this huge space for burgers and gatherings was genius. Food size is MASSIVE. I wish I split my meal. For a burger joint, this is on the pricer side, but worth it for the fun "hang-out" vibes inside. The bar in the back makes a mean strawberry margarita with sugar on the rim, 10/10. Tip the man for sure! Catered to our retirement party of 30+ so easily, and the outside area was fabulous. They had the largest beer tap and great options at the bar. We were a part of 3, and ordered: two orders of hamburger and chicken burger with fries. If you're going for lunch, go right at opening! I got there 10 minutes beforehand, was third in line, and by the time I finished ordering, the line was already two rows long! When I got my burger, it was three rows long! GO. AT. OPENING! Seriously, around noon, the full 5 row queue line in their set up was packed. This place is busy and for good reason! I customized my burger like crazy and honestly, I didn't go as crazy as I initially planned... because my pregnant brain was trying to convince me I should also add pineapple and an egg. It would have been everything but the kitchen sink at that point! They let you customize your level of done-ness, which I love. I went medium rare and it was on point! All of the tables are covered with butcher paper, so if you're coming with kids, bring a pack of crayons or something to entertain them. I'm in love with the location near my home, but having recently been pleasantly surprised to see this location near my (new) workplace, I knew I HAD to stop by for lunch. Parking is a great, wide open ocean of spaces. The staff seems pretty serious and not warm and fuzzy, but ordering is very efficient. It's lunchtime so they have two cashiers taking orders at once so I appreciate that this joint is prepared for a rush. It's not super noisy, but music (80's pop) plays over a speaker and even with a growing lunch crowd, the space is so big that it doesn't feel like the noise level is stifling. I love Big'z menu. It features classic and creatively assembled burger and sandwich options but building your own is always a good choice. You can even "make it dirty" by adding a fried egg. I was tempted, but really wanted to taste the burger itself today to rate that very important base ingredient fairly. The patties are THICC (see photo) and they ask how you'd like that big hunk of cow flesh cooked. Nice! I love their fries and onion rings. Another great thing is their ranch... thick and fresh and best of all FREE! I hate paying extra for condiments. *Side note: if you visit the location off the 151, they offer different flavored ranch dips. My fave is the jalapeño ranch!* To add to this lovely experience is that my food came out pretty quick and a manager strolled around to check on all the guests. Other observations include a FULL BAR towards the back, fancier crossback seats (see photo) and paper roll coverings at the long farm style tables. The booths are newer and the seats are very plush! Condiments at each table include Hunt's Ketchup, French's yellow mustard, salt and pepper. Each table also includes a roll of paper towels for clean up. We walked in and walked right out. As soon as you open the door there is an overwhelming smell of gas station bathroom cleaner. You don't smell food. It was so off putting we walked out immediately. No way I'm going to eat anywhere that smells like a bathroom. read more

I gathered with my work teammates for a dinner here recently. This was my first visit here, but I had been to The Well a couple of times. I was somewhat surprised at the new layout but it seemed to work. I ordered the veggie sandwich combo, which featured a portobello mushroom in lieu of a beef patty. It came with lettuce, tomato, avocado and braised onions. A side of fries and a drink were included. My wife ordered their large pretzel with a side of liquid cheese. The sandwich was okay, nothing really stood out. Except the braised onions had an odd taste to them. The fries were good and plentiful. I got a side of sriracha ketchup to dip them, but had a hard time tasting the sriracha. My wife's pretzel and the cheese were really good. The pretzel was pretty huge too!We only know about the pretzel from seeing photos of it on Yelp. Not sure why they don't list it on the menu. While the meal wasn't quite up to par, they do have an awesome beer selection with a ton of drafts I had a couple of IPAs (St. Arnold Art Car and El Chingon from 4 corners) while I was there. I'm not sure how soon I will make it back here as I wasn't terribly impressed by the food. Luckily my company paid for our meal so I only had to cover the cost of the beer. read more

Called ahead of time and asked if a bunch of us (driving from various parts of town) can watch a game on their big screen by the bar while we ate and drank. Place was basically empty. They said yes for sure! We come in and the stout shorter bar tender with a cap worn backwards (there were two of them) was so rude when I asked him if he would kindly play the game. And I quote he said, "ahmmm yeah what - I don't know" with a sarcastic dismissive loud tone. He turned around and ignored me. Mind you the place was basically empty, not like he was busy! I took our drinks, whoever ordered by then ate their food and called the others who didn't arrive yet with all the traffic and said "don't come here"! We all left and met the rest at Freetails and had the best time! Should have gone there from the get go. Bigz really is a kids' place that smells like pinesol (actually real potent uncomfortable smell), and waiters just staring you down trying to take your treys to trash before you even finish your food. We were happy to oblige with the oily fries and the salty burgers. Didn't want to talk to the lady owner she was having some attitude and looked run down arguing back in the kitchen. One of our friends tried to get their drink refilled (only can do that behind the counter and the lady ignored him so he gave up and said let's go). Nobody needs that type of energy while trying to have fun. The young man that used to work there at least was kind and had good energy, I think he's only at the other location now. Big'z is a local hamburger joint, known for their large indoor and outdoor seating, play areas for the kiddos, and "cut above' burgers. We had visited the 1604 location in years past, and decided to visit their newest location on UTSA Boulevard. This facility used to be The Well, a dance hall and watering hole, now repurposed in the image of the other two restaurants. First observation: PLENTY of parking! One enters, then faces an order window, the posted menu featuring single, double or triple meat burgers. Add on items include choices of bun, cheese, mushrooms, bacon, jalapenos (pickled or grilled). There are also chicken sandwiches listed, salads, as well as types of fries. Adjacent to the cashier is a chart of desired cook: well done, medium..etc. As the reader will note, this is not a typical fast food (McDonalds) style of burger...and the burgers are priced accordingly. An example: my single meat "base" burger was priced at $7.99. And loaded with pepper jack. mushrooms, and jalapenos, the dressed burger was $12.06. Fries were an additional $3.29. So, my order was $15.35. Patrons leave their name, and are called to another window when the order is ready. There is no waitstaff on the floor, rather 4-5 attendants that promptly police the tables after diners leave. For those that enjoy brewed, fermented grains, there is a separate counter that serves only beer and a few wines, featuring over 50....yes over 50 beers on tap! There is a physically separate bar island offering mixed drinks. The place is spotless, expansive, with multiple tables and booths for patrons. Music plays popular hits, the level easily allowing quiet conversation. There is porch seating left of the main dining area, and beyond, a grassy area, tree shaded with play area for the kiddos, picnic tables for outdoor dining. I did not notice any patrons with pets. Marjan and I ordered the burger medium, and the finish was just as desired. Juicy, delicious, seasoned adequately, not overbearing. Our added items rendered the burger a very desirable lunch! Fries were gently fried, with soft interiors....just the way we prefer. We thought this was a respectable offering of a custom burger! We must say, ours seems a contrarian review, as some other reviews of this location and of the other two locations, considered the physical plant unkempt, the staff surly, the food too pricey. (By way of price comparison, a similarly dressed burger at Chris Madrid, Five Guys, Chesters and Ginos deli are quite in line with the price of our custom Big'z burger.) And for some, they considered the Big'z burgers pretty pedestrian and lacking distinction. This was just not our experience on any of those issues. We did experience some delay at the beer counter, as the bartender was training other employees. We considered he should have dealt with his waiting customers (not just us), and completed his discussion after patrons were served. He also had difficulty with his credit card reader, that device low on battery. Nontheless, to his credit, he was pleasant, conversational throughout, offering tastings of some beers of which we had questions. With a relatively new opening at this location, expecting some operational hiccups, we forgave this small bump in the experience. So our overall impression? We enjoyed the restaurant, the food, and the overall dining experience. We definitely will return. We rate the restaurant Marjan's origami rating of....4 boots! Enjoy yelpers! read more

We saw that this location was open and convenient near our home so figured if they were opening a new location then maybe the food would be better..... We arrived today at this location and ordered our food, paid then sat down. It took quite a long time and it was not that busy. The food came out and it was cold, the burger has zero flavor, chicken was " meh" Sweet potato fries were burnt and hard. The soda had hardly any carbonation and tasted like a sugar bag. The positive side was the ranch was free. We will not be back here. $61 plus for three meals and 1 kids meal is absolutely absurd for this quality of food. Our original plans were to go to Longhorn Cafe and should have stuck with that. They are right across the highway and the food is always delicious. read more

Overall we love all the Big'z in town, but this one needs to work on its management. 3 weeks in a row we have come on Saturdays at 11am with friends. All 3 times there hasn't been a bartender and everyone seems confused where staff is. Last week they messed up our order twice and forgot sides. Both bar tabs where incorrect each week as well. Today the landscapers are here and blowing leaves at people trying to eat. Everyone and all their kids had to carry their food to the upper patio as the landscapers seemed not to mind covering people's food with leaves and dust. Slightly concerning that the landscapers also sprayed roundup under our table while we were eating at it. They also seem to be cleaning every time we come. Windows, bar tops, floors, handrails. Seems odd to be using cleaning chemicals between 11:30-noon-ish while people are eating. The food is good like all other bigz in town, but this location seems unorganized and slightly unsafe regarding food and landscaping happening at the same time. The food was freaking delicious. I made the mistake of ordering a double because I didn't know each patty was so big (took half home), but damn it was a delicious burger.
