Surprised by how nice this place is considering it's in a strip mall in South County. It was warm, cozy, and the service was top notch. We loved the food, the alcoholic drinks ive had are pretty bad, not balanced at all. Just get wine or water when you gom large portions, and I love that they wrap the boxes in seran wrap so they don't leak. Love that extra step and attention to detail. This was recommend to me by my best friend who hadn't been in years but said they use to be awesome. Boy, was he right! Just driving up to the establishment, you could tell it was nice. Parking was plentiful. As soon as entered, was seated promptly and Kevin and Jacob waited on us. Their service was spot on, great servers. Started out with cherry coke and iced tea. Was awesome.they then brought bread and butter out that was fresh. Next we both got salads and both were plentiful. My friend ordered the chicken modiga with broccoli as side and I myself ordered the Cavalli con broccoli. When they came out, I was surprised. The portions were more then pleasant and piping hot. Restaurant used to be very consistent but now I think you're taking a chance. Service, food, mediocre! Presentation We had to ask for everything and busboy mostly waited on us. it was hard to relax. The waiter was hyper. Told birthday desserts were frozen at first, and then brought out in a tinfoil to go box. Said he found one piece in the back? Happy birthday to my husband. Gianino's is a longtime favorite of my wife's family, who live in South County (St. Louis Co). We have passed by the restaurant for years driving on Telegraph Road, and while I have had their pizza many times, this was my first experience inside the restaurant. It did not disappoint. The restaurant is way bigger than I was expecting when we walked in. The bar is near the entrance, and then there's a huge seating area off to the side. We went on a Saturday night, and it was Valentine's weekend, so we knew to get there early. We got a table right away and ordered drinks. My wife got wine and I ordered a caramel-flavored martini off of her recommendation. Martini's are not usually my first choice, but this was top notch! Especially for the price. Our server was excellent and extremely attentive, even as the restaurant started getting packed for dinner. This is very much a neighborhood/local place, but she was very kind to me on my first experience, and walked me through her thoughts about dinner. After changing my mind five times, I finally settled on prisciotto ravioli, and it was amazing. I enjoyed every bite. It was a huge portion, so I got to bring some home with me. The atmosphere was lively, yet somehow cozy, and extremely friendly. As we left my in-laws must have said hello to five different tables of neighbors. I can see how this place has stayed in business for 50 years - people love it! This very much is a local place far south of downtown, so I wouldn't expect anyone visiting town to go out of their way to stop in. The food was good but the service was terrible (4/18/26). Waited over an hour after being told wait 30 - 45 minutes. The front desk had 3 to 4 young girls hanging out "talking" and not paying attention to the wait list of customers. They randomly called out names from the list but, not in the order people came in. Problem was they were too busy chatting. Very frustrating! The bus boys take 15 minutes to clear a table and then constantly attempt to take your food while you're still eating. My family from out of town wanted the Hill. The Hill takes early planning and generally reservations or 7... So. I leaned on a foodie friend to tell me the name of their go to Italian restaurant. Ok, I need to be the judge of this. Taking 3 particular young kids should do the trick. Wow! Wow! And Wow! Let's start with the appetizers. The calamari was a massive portion which fed all 7 of us. Equal portions. All nicely flash friend and two yummy dipping sauces. Toasted Ravioli. Stuffed to the brim with filling and perfect crunch! Tomato dipping sauce. Yum. Entree's all come with you choice of salad (house/ Caesar) soup (which must be great they were out) pasta, or veggies. Salads were HUGE! The house salad was the classic St, Louis Italian. Very good. The Caesar was good, but a little too much parm for our preference. PASTA: I think the photos speak for themselves. Delicious!!!!!!! Not a single one of these were not delicious. But, beware.... Great authentic Itiallian eatery. Service was good. Their red sauce is some of the best around. We had the chicken Spiendini and the Tutto Mare which is a huge serving. The house salads are also large with a very good itiallian dressing but I would request extra dressing. The menu is fairly extensive. We had wine and a martini and the fried calamari which was light and we'll done. Our tab was 100. plus tip but worth it. We will be back. read more

This is a nice restaurant. The service was good, but nothing spectacular. I had a Chicken Spedini Sandwich with the vegetable as my side. It was brussels sprouts which were VERY tasty. I met my party during Happy Hour on a Friday. The restaurant is in a strip mall so the parking lot is busy, but downright packed when we left. We were seated immediately. It was dimly lit, and pretty quiet inside. Our waiter was pleasant, quick, and accommodating! I ordered a margarita to drink, which came quickly. It was a standard drink, and pretty sweet. We were able to order from the rush hour menu, which featured some reduced prices. I got the Rigatoni Orazio, which had a blend of cream sauce and marinara, along with peas and mushrooms, along with a house salad. They served us a bread basket too, with the sliced seeded bread and butter. The salad was chopped, and a large size. Our waiter offered us cracked pepper for our salads,which I was happy to accept. The salad filled me up due to its size, and it was a great start to our meal. The Rigatoni was beautiful as served, and had the perfect mix of cream and red sauce. There were tons of mushrooms, and not enough peas, in my opinion. It was a delicious dish however, and I was able to bring a lot home for a second and maybe third meal! Instead of bringing to go boxes to the table, the staff carries your plate back and boxes it for you, eliminating the uncomfortable jostling of large plates and boxes once the meal is finished. It's been several years since I've eaten at Gianino's; like 20ish years ago when I was dating my wife. I walked in and was transported back in time. The decor looked pretty much the same. It isn't a huge place, but it was wall-to-wall people. There were a lot of people waiting to be seated, and there really isn't much of a waiting area. When you walk through this area and the bar, you can't help but bump into people. Gianino's is known for HUGE portions of pasta. My wife and I shared their great house salad and Rigatoni oroazio. As expected the salad was large and the pasta dish was enormous. We even took some home and I ate it for lunch the next day. The food was delicious. My only complaint was that there were too many mushrooms in the salad, even for my wife who absolutely loves them. The service was very good. We rushed out after the meal because we saw that there were a large number of people still waiting to be seated. This is still a great place to get a nice Italian dinner. Buon appetito! read more

We came here on a super busy lunch day. I believe they had a private lunch party. The hostess on arrival was unfriendly and acted like she wanted us to leave. Because of the long wait time, we choose to eat at the bar area. Service was a bit slow and I suspect that was because of the huge party. Our actually waitress was efficient, polite, and courteous, but not overly friendly. The food is excellent. I had a salad that I actually enjoyed. It came with my lunch entree which was pizza. The pizza is typical St. Louis style pizza and is on par with other pizza places. The handmade toasted ravioli are also awesome. One big disappointment was no fried cheese!?!?! Not sure when that was removed from the menu, but that was a disappointment. Apparently the imperial location has them. Had I known this location didn't have them, we would have went else where. Usually I never complain, I've worked in restaurant industry my entire life. We came on Monday for my mom's birthday dinner, all dishes were cold, pasta was mush and over cooked, i had gotten the modiga and it was overly sauced and just gross. I had some great food at this place, but I was highly disappointed that there was not one staff member who was wearing a mask. I certainly was the oddity in the whole building, being one who was wearing a mask, as they do not require them for their customers, either That being said, let me tell you about the delicious food. My friends and I ordered the garlic cheese bread. It was five, maybe six good size pieces of Italian bread with their garlic butter and what they call "StL pizza cheese", which is Provel, of course. It was served with a slightly sweet marinara sauce that was really pretty good. Friend #1 got the 12" Frank's Special Delight pizza which had hamburger, pepperoni, big pieces of bacon, onions and peppers. I did not have any, but my friend sure liked it! It did look amazing, I will say. I shared the Cod Piccata with Friend #2. I'm glad I shared it, because it was a large portion. The waitress was good enough to split the order, giving us two beautiful plates of this dinner - lightly breaded cod in the lemon caper sauce - and it was just the right size and quite delicious. This came with their house salad, which was really pretty darn big (even being split) and very tasty. It had raw mushrooms in it, and I didn't think I would like them, but mixed with everything else in the salad they were quite acceptable. The dressing was slightly sweet, but totally excellent and it was just a good salad. It also came with a side of cavatappi (in a light white sauce), which was ok, but nothing to write home about - I took it home and will pile on some cheese for lunch later this week, and it will be fine. Such a disappointment. We've been going here for 30 plus years and have always made a point to catch the broccoli cheese soup on Monday night. While usually my favorite soup, tonight's was not just lacking flavor/cheese, it was very watered down. When I questioned the waitress, the response? "What? Don't you like it? There's no set recipe. It's just whoever is making it." The chef salad was good, earning the 2 stars. My biggest issue was with the service. When I asked to have my soup removed from my bill (no, I didn't eat it), I got a snarky look/remark from our waitress about how she didn't understand why I didn't like it. She then proceeded to talk to the other waitress within sight of our table, looking directly at us. But at the end of the meal while some were even still eating trying to finish their meals, some "manager" I guess we don't even know, asked us to close our bill, and wait outside for the two takeout orders two in our party of 7 ordered to go for their families. Seriously? It was 30 degrees and we were asked to wait outside. We weren't even given the opportunity to order a dessert, or coffee. He scrambled around boxing up our leftovers and trying to close our bills very quickly. It was extremely rude. And dismissive and not the best face to put on St. Louis hospitality. The waitress was horrified we were treated like this. It wasn't her fault, we tipped her nicely but this "manager" needs to learn how to treat customers, especially those who are new and would likely come back, but won't due to his horrific treatment of customers. read more
