I took my father-in-law to Rich and Charlie's for Father's Day with my wife and mother-in-law. We arrived about 10 minutes after they opened and were seated immediately. Our waitress, Hazel, was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service throughout our meal. The food was good. I ordered the Chicken Mudeg, my wife had the Salmon Tuscany, my mother-in-law chose the Eggplant Parmigiano, and my father-in-law went with the Spaghetti and Meatballs. Every dish was served hot, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal with no complaints. The unlimited salad was also fresh and made a great addition to our dinners. By the time we finished eating, the restaurant was packed, which wasn't surprising considering the good food and service. Overall, we had an excellent Father's Day meal. read more

My first and last time visiting this establishment. My wife had been here before and also will not return. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Unfortunately, we had one of the most cringiest and fairly insulting experiences from who I'm assuming was the manager. My wife ordered the Cavatelli, she tried a bite of it and said all she could taste was garlic. I smelled it and was put off by the smell alone but also tried it. The dish tasted like they added garlic powder and never cooked it into the sauce to blend and mellow it out. We spoke to the waitress who was nice and offered to get us something else but we had instead just shared my Italian Beef which was quite good. She then was dragged out by the manager holding the food we'd already said we did not want, and the manager then questioned us as to us not wanting the dish like we were idiots. This poor waitress had to sit there holding the dish while Mr. Manager tried to explain to us that we're essentially wrong. Hey Mr. Manager, I worked in fine dining in Boston for 8 years and trained under an executive chef. I know food, and this dish was bad. Please work on your customer service skills or you may end up with no customers to treat with your blatant disrespect. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Rich and Charlie's for over eight years, visiting regularly (6-8 times a month), and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. On this visit, I ordered a kid's spaghetti, adult spaghetti, two martinis, and a kisdie cocktail. My total came to $49.49. From the start, the service was extremely slow. Every single thing took an unreasonable amount of time. We waited over 30 minutes just to receive boxes and the check after I had already asked for them. Our waitress never checked on us once to see how our food was or if we needed anything. In fact, another waitress had to step in twice to bring us items. Because of how poor the service was, I made the decision not to leave a tip, which is something I never do. Even my five-year-old daughter commented on how bad the service was. After leaving, I noticed my card was charged $59.49 instead of $49.49. I immediately called the restaurant. The hostess transferred me to a manager, who repeatedly told me that he only saw a charge of $49.49 on his end. I explained multiple times that my bank account clearly showed $59.49. He asked twice if I had my receipt. I explained that I had filled out the merchant copy and did not keep the customer copy. He then told me to come back to the restaurant so they could fix it. When I returned, he showed me the receipt I filled out and claimed the waitress thought I left a $6 tip. The receipt clearly showed $0.00 for the tip and a total of $49.49. Even the manager admitted that it did not look like a $6 tip. Not only does the math not add up, but the total written was still $49.49, making it obvious that the charge was incorrect. I was charged $10 more than my bill, not $6. At that point, it honestly felt like the situation was being brushed off, as if I wouldn't notice or question the charge. What made the situation even more concerning was that when the manager showed me the receipt I filled out, he attempted to keep it. I took it with me, as it is my only proof of what I actually wrote. As I was leaving, he called after me saying they needed it for their records, which did not sit right given the situation. While the manager did correct the charge, there was no real accountability, no meaningful apology, and no effort to make things right beyond the bare minimum. After this experience, I will not be returning. I would strongly urge ownership to review both service standards and payment handling practices. read more

This was a terrible experience. The restaurant isn't clean and a little outdated. I ordered the chicken Cajun pasta and it tasted like the sauce came from a jar and the only seasoning on it was pepper. 2 other people in our party had the Penne Alla Vodka. The sauce was separating and also unseasoned. When the manager (Paul) came he said "well this our flavor profile and I've sold 50 of these today. I'll take these off but I will not sub it out for anything else. This is $100 worth of food" . We never asked for a sub. Another 5 stars! Rich and Charlies continues to impress! Stopped in for a very rare date night with the wife on a weeknight. I ordered the Steak Mudega and she had the Chicken Emil. Both dishes were fantastic as is, but the chicken could have benefited from more lemon sauce. Maybe the breading soaked it all up, but there just wasn't much of it on the plate at all. Nothing like my beef mudega which was absolutely swimming in it (in the most amazing way!) Speaking of which, the steak was cooked perfectly and nearly fork tender and the abundance of mushrooms and sauce was the chefs kiss to a perfect plate. The Italian potatoes were slightly underwhelming and an unfortunate mix of over-fried hard cubes and oil bombs, but the cavatelli was, as always, a perfect pairing. We also ordered the fried cheese appetizer the "old way" tossed in garlic butter with lemon wedges. This was truly heavenly! and my favorite of the fried Italian cheese offerings at similar establishments. Lastly the service was great as always, and most importantly, the prices are EXTREMELY fair for the the portion size and quality. Bottom line... Rich and Charlies is a fantastic Italian restaurant that rarely disappoints and is a solid choice for a date night or a family dinner. We had the absolute worst experience Friday, 26 June 2026 at the South County Rich and Charlies. A table close to us (5 people in that party) were so LOUD and obnoxious we asked the manager if they could move us away from them or ask them to be a little quieter. Basically, he said there was nothing he could do. The wait staff was also complaining about how loud they were, again he did nothing. The food was not up to the Rich and Charlies standards we were accustomed to. The waitress was fantastic and really understood our frustration. While we were hurrying to finish our meal, I noticed multiple groups around the party were getting up and leaving looking back at that group with disgust in their look. Had the "Taste of Italy" special for lunch. Nice bargain deal for all that you get (unlimited salad, cheesy bread, individual portion of pasta, & scoop ice cream) for 18.99. Our server was extremely busy so a hostess took our order for us to not wait awhile which I appreciated. She didn't have to do that and it was really nice of her to think of our patience. The establishment had some nice old timey music & dimly lit chandeliers with beautiful stained glass. The bathrooms were atrocious, unfortunately. Crumpled napkins on the counters and floors, trash cans overflowing, a toilet unflushed, & toilet paper decorating the stall floors. Guess it was too busy to realize the catastrophe in the restroom. Nonetheless, the taste of food wasn't bad. Had a seafood pasta, (took pictures but unable to upload at the moment) but I was disappointed to realize they used imitation crab. Wouldn't have ordered if I'd known that much. Think they forgot to add the clams to the pasta I had as well, since mine didn't have any. I could definitely taste the garlic. The cheesy bread was too cheesy in my opinion, it was hard to swallow. I prefered the classic bread with the toasted sesame seeds adding a rich smokey flavor to what I assume is wheat bread dough. All in all, a fine establishment with very polite service. I'll probably try ordering a more classic Italian dish next time like ravioli or lasagna. Might taste better. I don't expect they make their pasta fresh in house, but it's well established family get together spot. read more

The hostess was friendly and professional, the Manager engaging and attentive to have our group of 6 seated expeditiously. Our waitress was on her toes and did an excellent job of servicing the table with a smile. Our food was delicious and to expectation of R&C's standard and our expectation of quality. I was in the mood for a hearty pasta. I checked the menu and there was a new seasonal offering - the BLT pasta. It has bacon, tomato chunks, spinach, and gorgonzola. That sounded delicious to me, so I ordered a lunch special. They said it and a side salad would be ready in twenty minutes. Once I got it home and opened it, it looked great. To note about this dish is that the tomatoes are diced very small, as is the bacon, and the gorgonzola sauce is creamy with no chunks at all. The texture comes from the penne , and oddly enough, the spinach. It was clearly baby spinach, and it looked like just a small handful in the dish, but it was left whole. It gave the dish an odd bite due to the long spinach stems. It was a decent dish, it just seemed a little weird to chew the spinach stems. Richard Ronzio and Charlie Mugavero opened the original Rich & Charlie's in 1967 as a deli. It soon expanded into an Italian restaurant. A partner KIm Tucci had a different vision on how to expand. Thus was formed Pasta House. Early Pasta House you ordered a Rich and Charlie salad as Pasta House expanded it soon became Pasta House salad. The salads are essentially the same and very unique to St. Louis. I ordered the Chicken Emil is a chicken breast served in white wine sauce and topped with provel cheese, broccoli and mushrooms. It is such a unique dish with it's sauce and I always get it with a side of cream pasta with shell noodles. I was a a total clean plater. I sure do miss St. Louis style Italian. read more

Every time I have gone I've gotten the same rude waitress. I usually don't mind this enough to review at places as I get everyone has a bad day, but it has been the same older women every single time over the course of months. Her service wasn't awful I do have to say she was attentive, She was just incredibly rude. The first few times we thought she was being humorous, but it's clear that's not the case. However, I did enjoy my salad and pasta. Food was good, but for me the waitress is now turning me away. I recommend the always fantastic, Rizzo's Italian Restaurant, across the street.
