Love this place. I have been here many times and the wait staff, atmosphere and food are the best. The first time I ate there was with a friend of mine for a guys night out. My inlaws now live down the street from here and we go out to dinner with them and from time to time visit here. We went there tonight with the inlaws and as usual had a great meal. Unfortunately they do not have a great selection of mixed drinks, I was in the mood for a Moscow Mule and had a Yuengling draft instead. I had the oven baked Penne Salsiccia, my wife had a small Mediterranian style pizza and my inlaws split a chicken meal. We all had side salads and everything was excellent. 1 star is missing due to prices are rather high (you get what you pay for though, and you are getting a high quality meal and attentive wait staff) and the mixed drink variety is not there. Catch-up dinner with friends on Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated in the Cafe area. Not sure of the distinction except it was to the left and I guess the dining room was to the right. We were tucked away in a corner near a window, a nice table size for our party of four. The overall experience was fine, the waitress was nice, but we didn't see her very often, the food was decent, and the prices were fairly reasonable. I ordered a small house salad with no cheese. It came as ordered and was a good size for a small. For my entree I ordered Chicken Sicilian it was served with a vegetable medley consisting of zucchini, green beans, baby carrots, and potatoes. I enjoyed the medley minus the carrots, I'm not a fan of cooked carrots. I probably wouldn't have ordered dessert, but it wasn't offered. We dined here with another couple, sat outside on the patio in the shade on 70 degree summer evening. I've eaten here before never finding the "right" dish for me. Service is always good here and our server was great. I finally tried the Cajun Shrimp Pasta and that will be my "forever dish" here. The sauce was delicious with just enough heat to make it Cajun. I shouldn't have waited so long to write this review because my husband and I have visited Gianfabio's probably 10 times in the last year. We like it that much. Todd has always been great! He's attentive without hovering and we really appreciate it. I have been a repeat customer of the Cajun Farfalle With Shrimp ever since I first ordered it. It's a huge portion made for a doggie bag, and it is boldly spicy without being overwhelming. The sauce is lick-your-plate style. I could put it on almost anything. :) I'm a Caesar salad aficionado but I don't really care for theirs. Their house salad, though, is outstanding. It's like an Iceberg house salad from the Hill (Little Italy)--the creamy Italian dressing is A+. Replacement same. Shrimp Oregnati made person ill several hours later. Rack of Lamb consisted of tiny pieces of overcooked lamb. Eggplant Parmigiana tasteless. Somehow we didn't know about this restaurant right next door to the Hilltop Schnucks, but I'm so glad we found it! The people are so friendly, great family atmosphere and family owned. Our cousins brought us to one of their favorite places. Staff was wonderful and so great. Waitress was Michelle and she was a character-so fun. We had to try the flash fried spinach as an appetizer. We had never heard of it but it was delicious. Main course for cousin Jack and I was another dish we had never heard of chicken spiedini served with spaghetti & meat sauce. So good! Server recommended it over every chicken dish or broccoli pastas. It was ok. Expensive for two small pieces of chicken. Paid extra for upgrade to pasta with marinara sauce. It was best thing. This place is busy. Even on Thursday night. Mostly locals where servers knew their names. Nice bar to have a drink and Blues game on. Two dinners and two salads with waters and tip cost $74.00. Ouch. Call for reservations.... Every person that walked in they asked if they had reservations. We did and they sat us quickly. I would give experience 3 1/2 but not quite 4. Average at best. If you don't live in the area it's not worth the drive to as there are far superior places then this. It's in a plaza and supposedly was 'classy' dress according to what I read but when we walked in, people in jeans and hoodies. Great, now I'm over dressed, fine. My partner knows someone there so if it wasn't for them, we probably would still be waiting. The service outside of the person we knew left a lot to be desired, they kept conversing with regulars and passing over us to when we were ready to order. When we got our food, the food wasn't bad but again, unless you live in the area you can probably find just as good food in your area. I had ordered a pizza to go with our leftovers and had it sitting with the leftovers on top and went to the restroom and when I came back it was put in a brown paper bag. Now I didn't think nothing of this but when I got home, well, the pizza was on its side so it had all stuck to the top of the box and it's now inedible. The juices from the leftovers also spilled into the box too which is just awesome. So those are the reasons alone why I won't be returning. read more

Gianfabio's is a few minutes from my hotel (I'm visiting the area from Alabama) so I went here on a whim. They were pretty busy when I got there and I didn't have a reservation, so I made one on the spot and came back an hour and a half later. I noticed several large parties while I was being led to my table. This place seems popular with groups, families and couples. My server (Renee) went over the specials but I ordered off the menu. I started with the escargot. I've only had it in French restaurants before. This was the first time I've had it with spinach, pine nuts and cheese. for the most part it was very good. Two of them were a tad overcooked, which gave them a rubbery texture, but the rest were perfect. Fresh bread had already been brought to the table. I used every last bit of it to sop up the excess garlic butter that the snails were cooked in. I was craving carbs and ordered the cannelloni. The presentation was quite nice, but it's the taste that counts, and this taste counted right up to a ten. The cream sauce was very good and the dollop of meat sauce was just the right amount. I'd filled up on bread and escargot so I ended up taking one of the cannelloni back to the hotel with me where I plan on having it for lunch tomorrow. I'm glad I chanced onto Gianfabio's. The atmosphere, service and food were all very good. If the escargot had all been cooked consistently this review would have five stars. read more

Greeted at the door by the owner, so very cordial, and escorted to our white table clothed table. Restraurant decor is so impressive. I love it!! Our orders: Iced tea - excellent House salads (3) - perfectly delicious and generous portions. 10" pizza (2) - both ladies commented they completely satisfied with the heavenly delicious flavors. My wife exclaimed she will order again next time....."it's the best ever" Mahi-mahi - was maybe over cooked (it was sort of dry) It needs more care in preparing. Not pleased with preparation!! Fettuccine tuta mere - I requested extra calamari (at an extra charge) the flavor was excellent plus the seafood was abundant. Serving size was generous....I loved it all. Our waiter advised this dish can be made in a cream sauce variation upon request. For something different Next time I will give it a try. General consensus all four were completely happy with our dinners. We will be back soon. read more

The food was excellent! Our party of two ordered one entree from the menu and requested a non-menu entree that was prepared perfectly. The app offerings are well thought-out and range from 'standard' through 'gourmet'. Everything was prepared as requested and served on a timely basis. The dessert selection is rather limited, but the aperitifs will replace any dessert shortcomings very well. And if you are like me and enjoy coffee after dinner, they offer espresso and cappuccino. Entree prices are mostly in the $20 -$30 range as are most comparable restaurants in their geography. The service is top-shelf; our server was Shawn. He was friendly, accommodating, very knowledgeable of menu items, professional and willing to assist should diners want assistance. Shawn is an absolute "Pro"! The ambience is clean, open (tables not jammed against each other) and functional. It's great to not be forced to listen to another table's conversation. If I could offer one suggestion it would be to 'lower the brightness' in the dining room, it has a negative effect on the entire experience. Today I tried the lasagna, good portion size and quite tasty, but I've had better. Unfortunately couldn't finish it after starting with a Caesar salad and fresh bread, but was good to take home for a leftover lunch. The bread service was ok. A typical Italian/French bread. The crab cakes were not very good. A little overpriced for what you get too. The aioli sauce was a weird spicy nacho cheese kind of flavor. The actual cakes were cooked well but didn't have a good crab flavor. Probably a 2/5. Tried a few pastas and was not impressed. The waiter warned us the lasagna was "soft" and boy was he right. That is not how you cook a lasagna. The noodles were super mushy and way too much fennel for my taste. The cannelloni was ok. Flavored well but the meat sauce was kinda plain. Food was excellent! The spinach salad had an excellent salad dressing, the spinach was fresh and tender, and the size was appropriate. I had the red snapper and it was delicious. It was well prepared, and with the side order of vegetables was an appropriate size, and an excellent meal. All the desserts were good and I especially liked the tiramisu. Our server, Todd, was friendly, knew the menu, and described the specials, very well, and was always timely with serving the food and checking up on us. Overall, the ambience is well appointed and pleasing to the eye. The music is at an appropriate level. However, Mr. Terzo may want to look into the condition of the carpeting. Conflicted is how I'm going to describe this dining experience. I hadn't been here in more than twenty years. We got sat at a table in the dining room and we did not have a reservation but were very early. We ended up here on a whim. My dinner date and I decided to share the calamari diavola appetizer and the spaghetti con melenzane. Also my date had a dinner salad. The service and covid protocols were all great and they made us feel safe dining inside. The food was, unfortunately, not to our liking. The calmari was chewy and the diavola sauce was not spicy. The pasta was fair but nothing that would bring me back and we both thought the portions were small but we wouldn't have wanted more. The tone of the service was very cold and the waiter seemed disappointed we weren't ordering drinks or more food. I would go back if someone else wanted to go. read more

Five stars simply isn't enough for this incredible restaurant. The ambiance sinks in as soon as you walk in the door - dim lighting, with a classy but home-like decor. Their service genuinely makes you feel like you're having dinner with family. Sean waited on us and brought out a complimentary dessert for my parents' 35th anniversary. He was incredible and so attentive. Finally, the food was quite simply the best Italian I've eaten in St. Louis, and yes, I've been to the hill! Everything from the bread, to the shrimp, to the marinara shone but what has us already planning our next visit was the creme caramel. If you don't order it you are MISSING OUT!
