This was our first visit there. We were looking for something reasonably priced and landed here. It's cafeteria style also.as soon as you walk in you grab a tray, you're served a salad and then you place your order and pay. Everything is ready quickly. I got the meatball sub and a side of pasta shells with Alfredo sauce. The portion of the sandwhiches are descent but seem to be more bread than meat. The meatball sub had an interesting texture almost like vegan meat and not a ground beef blend. It tasted ok but I wouldn't get it again. The red sauce was delicious, some of the better restaurant red sauce I've had. The portion of the side pasta was very generous and under $5. I didn't care for the Alfredo sauce. I love pepper but it was peppery and not much else for the flavor. I fixed in some of the red sauce to.make it taste a bit better. My bf got the chicken Parm.which I would've got but for the iffy reviews. I actually thought it was good from the small taste I had and if returned, I would get that. I did feel the potion was a bit small. The salad was good and the you can select your drink via fountain. The staff was nice and the restroom was clean. Consistently good food for decades. What a relief that the "new owners" (it's been years!) maintained the high standards we all enjoy. Plus they kept the "good ice"--you know, the soft kind--in the big ice maker to the left of the shelf da machine. I never thought I'd crave an iceberg lettuce salad but it's a must-have with my side of eggplant Parmesan (hold the cheese) and side of one meatball. Perfect small meal. Since we eat here a couple times a month, I see lots of good food go by. The various sandwiches on cheese garlic bread seem to be popular, along with the roast beef au jus and pizzas. The service and food has gone down over time. We ordered 2 large house salads. Delicious as always. My wife ordered a single meatball which she enjoyed. I ordered pasta con broccoli. They apparently forgot me. The cook and line staff were standing around when after 20 minutes I had to walk up and ask for it. Some time later they delivered it to the table. No small salad or bread & butter accompanied the entree as the description stated. Unfortunately it was very bland and watery. 3 bites and I got a to go container to take the rest home. What has happened to Grassi's? The last couple of times I have eaten there it's been a disappointment. The Vito's house was full of ham and roast beef that was chewy and unappetizing. The veal parmigiana was full of grissel. It was very thin and small. It seems that the bread is smaller as is the cheese that is used for the garlic cheese bread. I just loved my first (hopefully not my last) visit to Grassi's. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, from the teens to the adults. They were happy to give recommendations and I went with the chicken parm. Great choice! You also get a small Italian salad. I added the green olives. And you get fresh bread with butter. It's good and it's just enough cheese... but don't we all need more than just enough cheese? The cheese toasted ravioli... I can't place the kind of cheese. It may be a blend. It's creamy but not too gooey, so it's probably not straight Provel. I also had a side of fries. Chicken breast was dry and tough, as if it had been grilled a day or two earlier and refrigerated. Salad was excellent, pasta was excellent. The solution?--As soon as you receive the chicken, if it seems dried out to you, tell them it appears dried out so please grill a fresh breast. We went here many years ago and decided to come back the other day. You step into an old world type of feeling where you get in line with a tray and go down the quick line and order your food. It appears all of the people working there are like family, it smells delicious, the food is hot and fresh and plated for you quickly in a very appealing manner. The prices are reasonable. You then take your food and go sit out in the open area and enjoy it. The only reason I did four stars is that the roast beef sandwich was good, and the meat was tender, but it did seem to lack a little bit of flavor. Maybe a bit short on salt and pepper is all, and that is something certainly next time we can add as needed. I had the lasagna and I thought it was an eight out of 10, right down the middle, plentiful and tasty. It came with a side salad that was a basic Italian type salad, nothing to write home about, nothing to ever complain about. Come out and give it a try. It's 10 stars. It's an 11 on a scale of 1-10. Nothing fancy. This isn't going to win a James Beard award. The food was really good. The chicken cutlet was tender, flavorful. The red sauce isn't Sunday gravy, but it's a basic tomato sauce. The toasted ravioli isn't my thing (not from St. Louis), but there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. You have to be impressed with a place that still has red plastic cups for the soda, people are lined up to order, and they are passing out freshly baked pizzas in minutes. If you read my reviews, you know I always complain. There is nothing to complain about. Are there white linen tablecloths? Will the lasagna taste like Don Angi's? Of course not but for really good, old school simple, basic Italian food - Thank you Grassi's. Drive by here at least once a week and this is the first time stopping in, it's off the main road so you need to look for it. We got there around 5 and it wasn't crowded however with in 5 -10 minutes a steady stream of at least 60- 70 people came through either to dine in or for carry out! The restaurant is a lot larger than it looks from the outside and it's very comfortable and extremely clean. The staff is very friendly and efficient making for a pleasant dining experience. We chose the Italian salad and small deluxe pizza and a great choice it was. The salad was absolutely delicious, made fresh as we stood and placed our order, the dressing was full flavor and the croutons were house made and added a perfect crunch to the salad. The pizza was thin crust , delicious sauce and loaded with sausage, peppers, pepperoni, olives and more. Definitely worth a visit and I think I have found a new favorite place!! read more

For appetizers we tried 5 toasted ravioli which was my overall favorite dish of the night! I only wish there were more of them. The lasagna and chicken parm sandwich were doused with the same housemade marinara sauce. I LOVED the salad and since the portion size was so big, it still tasted delicious the next day when I brought the leftovers to work. It was fun watching them toss the salad in front of us with olives, lettuce, cheese, and Italian dressing. The chicken parm was crispy and tasty, and the lasagna fell a part a little too easily for me but tasted delicious nonetheless. I liked the chunks of sausage throughout the lasagna. The mac and cheese was mediocre and a little too watery for my liking.
