We stopped in for another great meal at Joey B's. The restaurant is always clean and inviting. Our server was very friendly and attentive as always. I had the Chicken Modiga which was amazing. The chicken was juicy inside and very crispy outside even covered with the wonderful sauce. My wife had the Marsala Ravioli. I tried it and it was so flavorful. Such a deep mushroom flavor with a creamy sauce that was perfect. Each time we come to St Louis for shows or concerts we stop here for dinner. Oh Joey B's where have you gone...pre-Covid we came here weekly...typically multiple times. Seems like they've never recovered from COVID...they cut their hours, food quality has really gone down while prices have dramatically increased, service is just uninterested. Is there a manager that oversees the restaurant? Today we came in at approx 4:00 on a Friday mind you, no one to greet us, the bartender didn't even look in our direction. A simple, "hello, someone will be right with you" would have gone a long way. So we sat ourselves at a high top in the bar area and waited. There were four people at the bar and us...still the bartender never acknowledged us...I suppose it's not in her job description. We waited long enough to debate on leaving...and finally our server showed up...she was good, explained the happy hour menu. I ordered garlic bread and meatballs off the Happy Hour menu and a cheeseburger off the kids meal for our grandson. I quickly changed my mind and went to ask if I could change my order but couldn't find anyone to help, all staff had disappeared...finally the server came out with bread (the best part of the meal) I asked if I could change or order...she was very nice and said the garlic bread was already in the oven, and checked if she could stop the meatballs. She was able to halt the meatballs so I ordered The Hammer I was so happy to see The Hammer had made its way back on their menu. For my side I ordered the salad, the salad used to be my favorite. The garlic bread came out...it was pitiful. The same bread that they serve in the beginning...slices with some garlic and a thin slice of provel...we didn't eat it. The salad was next, what used to be my favorite salad came with maybe a hint of dressing, I salted and peppered it hoping to add some flavor, I had to stop eating it until our waiter reappeared with The Hammer. I ordered a side of dressing which made the salad so much better. We were excited for The Hammer, but unfortunately it was the biggest disappointment of all. The bread was literally soaked with we don't even know what...best guess was jarlic...but it was very wet with sad toppings...ah remember the garlic bread we didn't eat? Well it came in handy, we transferred the toppings from the sandwich onto it and it was more edible. As I sat waiting for our server, a family of four came in the door faced with the same dilemma, no one to greet them. The bartender was chatting with someone at the end of the bar literally facing them and never greeted them. The Father had to go looking through the restaurant TWICE trying to find someone to acknowledge them. The server never checked to see if I needed another drink so we checked out and paid our overpriced tab and left to most likely never to return again. On our way home our 8 year old grandson said you know it's bad when something from the kids menu is the best they got... This restaurant has always been a neighborhood staple, I'm writing this hoping the owners can stop its downward spiral and bring it back to what it once was. First time here with a friend, and we had a funny moment where Maps led us to a little shack across the street but just turn around and you'll see the actual restaurant! They run a happy hour Monday-Friday, so take advantage if you can. We both got pasta and the portions were generous! Mine was a touch salty, so keep water nearby, but the free bread made up for it. I have always liked this place. Many years ago a bunch of us that worked at the printing company on the hill would stop by for HH. It was fun and the bartender and the drinks were perfect. Tonight I was in the dining room. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our birthdays with another couple. Arriving a little before 7pm I didn't expect the place to be super clean but the amount of food on the floor in the dining room was a little much. Our waitress was very nice. Part of my menu was hard to read. I'm guessing they've been scrubbed a lot. Then the troubles began. We ordered our drinks, me = tea, 2 waters, and the last person ordered a diet coke. The waitress repeated it and then went to get our drinks. My tea was very good and fresh. Water is water. However, the diet coke was Dr. Pepper. We mentioned it to the waitress and she said they were out of diet Pepsi. Hmmm, so...was this a diet Dr. Pepper? Even if it wasn't, it's best to tell the customer that you don't carry coke products instead of just bringing them something they CAN'T drink. It saves all of us time. We ordered our food and waited. As we waited, the tables around us were being cleaned. I have to tell you the spray that was being put on the tables was very strong. It felt like it had been sprayed on 3 of us. We all started coughing and I honestly thought I was going to be sick. I drank almost all of my tea just to get that taste out of my throat. I'm glad we didn't have our food yet. When our food came everyone but one of us were served. We were waiting on the lasagna. We joked that they wanted to make sure it was perfect. I almost had the first half of my sandwich eaten when our actual waitress came by to see how everything tasted and realized that the lasagna was not brought out by the other waitress. Sadly, the lasagna was not perfect. The noodles were not fully cooked. My steak sandwich had a ton of grissel. I ate some of it because it was in my mouth already but ended up cutting a lot of it out. Which was a shame since the ratio of steak to bread was already way off. The brussel sprouts which I normally love were very greasy and I took some napkins to soak up the grease but I couldn't eat them all. (I gave half to someone else at the table for some fries.) The chicken strips were really dark... almost burnt. The side of slaw came out in a little cup which isn't a problem unless you only fill the cup halfway up. The other meal was the perfect one. All in all a disappointing night. I think I'll just stick to the bar from now on. read more

The restaurant has the quintessential south St. Louis vibe, with both a patio and bar area as well. There always seems to be lots of people meeting up after work. They charged me for ice!!! Wednesday nights are whiskey Wednesday so all whiskey (minus certain premiums) is $6. That's a pretty good deal as I'm a bourbon drinker. I ordered a Buffalo Trace (not a premium) on the rocks. When I got the bill, the bourbon was as advertised, but then there was a line item for$3 for being on the rocks. Are you kidding me? I guess if I do go back, I'll order the drink neat and ask for a glass of water so I can add my own ice. The food itself was just ok. The beer cheese burger was dry, the fries were fine, nothing to write home about. There seemed to be plenty of staff, but we had to wait to get a table, and then wait for a waiter to take our order. This was our first time visiting here after passing it countless times during our daily commute, we decided to give it a try. Nice spacious interior with plenty of seating booths or tables. I Now I will say it was later, towards closing time when we made the last minute stop for a bite to eat so the service felt a little rushed which is completely understandable life goes on. That did not stop them cooks from delivering some of the best pastas I've had in a min, with some HUGE portions(no complaints) I pressed the fettuccine Alfredo pasta add chicken, wife had a shrimp and chicken pasta with a redish cream sauce. On a recent Friday night, my friend Red and I decided to dine at the st Louis hills Joey B's. We entered around 7 pm and were seated immediately at a nice enough booth, the seats of the booth though could be more comfortable as they were rather hard. We started off the night with an appetizer of garlic cheese bread at 10.95, we both ordered burgers 16.95 each that had bacon and fried onions abd cheddar cheese on them, we had the BBQ sauce placed on the side, red had a house salad as a side and I ordered the coleslaw slaw. The cheese bread arrived and was delicious, sadly this night that was all that was worth having ordered and eaten. Reds salad was warm when brought to the table and did not taste right she stated, while my coleslaw slaw was not cold and had a strange sour and yet peppery taste to it, we neither one ate either side after the first two bites, the burgers were cooked well enough but neither tasted right, almost as if they had been over seasoned. We let our waitress know about the salad and slaw and she looked at us and said ok. All in all a bad dining experience on a night when the restaurant was not busy enough to make this understandable. read more

Oh My!! Joey B's used to be a Go-To! Not any more. What the heck happened to the quality of food? I don't mind paying more for what I have received in the past, but to pay more for sub par quality? Not a chance. It's a shame. The chicken used in the salads are disgusting. They no longer use a real chicken breast. This restaurant used to be so good. Did corporate take over? I will be sad to no longer dine here and by the appearance of the lunch rush, (was none!) a lot of people agree. Unfortunately, I can see this chain going out of business in a few years once people experience these changes. I wish it wasn't so. The taste and everything was amazing for sure.. but I didn't enjoy because when she dropped it off, it had a garnish all over the top both the chicken as well as the pasta.. I don't like parsley and I also don't like cilantro which itself has that weird flavor in my mouth .. and when I was trying to explain that I also didn't like parsley she then said oh it's not cilantro it's parsley not allowing me to explain I also didn't like Presley and I guess she thought she was telling me it was fine because she knows what I like.... she didn't offer to replace so I ate the meal after I scraped as much off as I could.. :-/ over I wasn't able to enjoy my food and wine, ate as much as possible... Can't find my review so here it is again . Decided to try this place on Sunday (01/19/25). My wife and I both ordered the fried chicken special. Unfortunately, both of us wound up regretting it. The chicken was fried to the point where it was inedible. The meat was dry as a bone and tough. The mashed potatoes and green beans that came with it tasted fine however both sides were cold. Also tried the fried ravioli. Not very good. The meat inside the ravioli was good however the outside wrap was more like a flour tortilla than a pasta. Don't think I'll be back. This place better start concentrating more on their food preparation than their "Down home" reputation, and being on "The Hill". read more

I came into town last night to visit my parents and my dad suggested one of his favorite neighborhood spots, Joey Bs We had dinner, it was great, but was even better was the service. The sweet hostess sat us where we liked with a big smile. Our Server Sam was amazing. It's pretty tricky to find a place my dad can get a really cold beer and hot food where he isn't complaining about something! You'd better be seriously hungry if you eat here. The portions are gargantuan. I mean enough for six people! The salads are really big as well and are drenched in dressing. Ask for it on the side. The food is average. I got the chicken spiedini and it was cooked perfectly. It came to the table cold. Nothing worse than cold food. Pretzel bites aren't really pretzels but bread. Dang, I wanted to give more stars. But I'm probably being generous with the 3 stars I did give. The good: The server was very sweet and the salad was outstanding. The bad: The patio was closed on a beautiful evening. The ugly: The food sucked. I got the chicken modiga, which just was not good. The chicken was so overcooked, that I couldn't cut it. Seriously. Not a metaphor. I never complain about the food to the staff at a restaurant, but I had to this time. I could not get the knife through the chicken breast. I managed to hack through the breading and it was difficult to tell the difference between the breading and the chicken. I couldn't eat it at all, so I had to let the server know. The side of white pasta was meh. It was cold on top and kind of glazed over (like when you leave a sauce sit out). The flavor was like an Alfredo you get from the clearance bin at save a lot. Edible, but not great. Husband got the Tuesday fried chicken dinner, which he loved, except the biscuit was way over cooked. It was rather hard, so he just used it as a scoop for the mashed potatoes to his mouth. He's very resourceful. For drinks, I got the New York Sour, which was alright, nothing better than I could have made at home. Husband got the Bud Light bucket, which we appreciated still having the caps intact so we could hijack the ones we didn't drink right on outta there. I will say the salad was outstanding and huge. All the portions, as mentioned in other reviews, were huge. The server was very kind when I mentioned I couldn't eat the chicken, and that was taken off of our bill, which I appreciated. The place wasn't crowded but seemed adequately staffed. There was some staff arts and crafts going on at a back table (painting ceramics?), but we didn't have an issue with the service. I was disappointed that the patio was closed for seating on such a nice night. Overall, not great. I like other Joey B's locations, but probably won't be back to this one. read more

Our server was very friendly. We both started off with a holiday cocktail they were both very good, we then started with the fried pickles and these were really the star of the show for me.
