Very nondescript building. The inside is very clean and orderly, but dated. A bunch of the tables seats were torn or worn. The server at the counter was very friendly and helpful and got our order taken quickly. She was able to resolve a small issue with my gift card not scanning. We had a coupon for two cheeseburgers and fries. I ordered a small soft drink as well. Even with the coupon, it still was $21! Ouch. It took about 10 minutes for our order to be ready, not bad. Everything was cooked hot and fresh. The fries were good, cooked just right. The burgers were disappointing. The bun and toppings were fine but the burger patty was super thin and unseasoned. Maybe change the logo to Home of the Worlds Most Bland Cheeseburger. This place isn't bad, it's convenient and almost never busy. Normally, you come to Bill Gray's for a great burger. It's expensive, but every now and then, you gotta splurge. Today, I ordered a cheeseburger meal (burger, fries, and beverage) for $14.99. They don't itemize on the receipt you get at the register, but they do on the ticket that comes out with the food. When the food was ready, the first thing I noticed was the paltry amount of fries. Normally, the little basket overflows... after all, you're paying $5.49 for them. Now, potatoes cost only about a dollar a pound, so the fact that they're charging such a high amount MIGHT be reasonable IF you received more than 4 ounces on your plate. Also, as I was eating, I glanced at the itemized receipt and realized that rather than charge me for the meal, the cashier rang up each item individually. This means that they charge me more than 10% over what the meal price was and I would never known had I not glanced at the itemized receipt. When I asked to speak to the manager and mentioned both being overcharged and the underwhelming amount of potatoes, I was handed $1.71 in cash, and nothing was done about the potatoes. So, I mentioned that we would just deal with the potato issue on Yelp, hence this review. There's a Five Guys across the street, which is also expensive, but you'll get more fries than you ever imagined. read more

I have seen the Bill Gray's burger places in a few locations in Rochester and I actually went a few times to the one located next to Seabreeze. I always smile when I pass by as they advertised "the worlds greatest cheeseburger". It reminds me of the movie Elf, where he goes to a coffee shop, which advertises the "world's best cup of coffee". Well, today, I was able to have lunch at the location in Henrietta. It is quite a fun building, laid out like a railroad station with lots of tables and a space in the back, which has some games such as air hockey and video games. We arrived shortly before noon and for such a huge building, there wasn't very much business. It was Tuesday and there are special plates available on Tuesdays, so I ordered the impossible burger with two sides. What I didn't realize is that it is not a burger on a bun with two sides. It is more like what they refer to in Rochester as a garbage plate. so, I got a perfectly done impossible burger with coleslaw on the side and sweet potato waffle fries under, over and on the side of the burger. When asked by the very nice man at he counter what I wanted on the plate,, I told him to give me the works, minus the meat sauce. The dish arrived scattered with relish and squiggles of ketchup and mustard and chopped onions. It also came with a fresh little bun. So, surprised by the appearance, I dug in and have to say I really enjoyed it. The waffle fries were perfectly done, but the coleslaw was too sweet for me. I think coleslaw is something that nobody can agree on. I recall a story about a friend of mine, whose mother lived in an assisted living community. There was such an hullabaloo in the dining room about the coleslaw and disagreement about what constitutes a good coleslaw that the chef took it off the menu. Problem solved. The service was very friendly, and the place is clean. The nice thing about Bill Gray's is that they also have Abbott's frozen custard for dessert. Though I didn't order any after lunch, it is really a wonderful option. It was a splendid meal, and I will return when I am in the mood for the "worlds greatest cheeseburger". read more

Thank you for the delicious Friday night fish fry. Honestly if you're looking for a good fish fry, this is the place to go. I had never been to this location, even though it's closest to my home, but with the pandemic and my desire for something other than my cooking I decided it was fish fry night. They're known for their garbage plates and burgers I think, but I go for the fish. My friend loves the garbage plate. Ordering with John over the phone was easy. In and out, payment, and pick up even easier, quite a few people waiting in the parking lot for food, so good sign this place is reliable. It's a local chain, above fast food, and worth the value. Only odd thing I noticed there is some funky decor (?) not sure if there's a gym or tree house in the middle of the seating area, couldn't figure it out, oh well, I will definitely be back, thank you again for the delicious fish :) read more

I order from this location a lot during the day for work, it is just never as good as the other locations. The order is never fulfilled correctly, the grilled chicken is almost always over cooked and the tater tots are oily. It's strange as the one closest to my house in Chili, and down by the lake are so fantastic. This one just doesn't do it for me. Hoping that they can get better. read more

I love my Bill Gray's! Since I moved to Rochester a little over 3 years ago, I had to eat at this Rochester classic. I used to live right by the Irondequoit location and eating their cheeseburgers used to be my ongoing love affair. Now that I live further from a Bill Gray's, I still enjoy them like at the Strong museum or when I go to Ontario Beach park. Today was no exception as it was Garbage plate Tuesdays so couldn't pass that up. During this coronavirus time, you can call your local Bill Gray's for them to take your order and they make it pretty efficient. There is an automated person telling what order you will be taken next and we were caller number 4 and it went pretty quickly. My husband said at the actual restaurant for going in, they have stop signs for each customer to keep in line with the social distancing. It's nice to see they have an orderly fashion in dealing and going with the times. The garbage plates weren't the best we must admit but I did enjoy the cheeseburger part of it which is always what Bill Gray's is known for anyways. read more

So quick question: what is this place? It is massive, appears to have once been a popping burger/ice cream spot. But the other day it felt haunting to be in its midst. Like it was left behind in the last millennium frozen in time down to the spooky, dimly lit arcade with Hydro Thunder, Crazy Taxi, and something called Skittleball which I can almost guarantee has had the same prizes in it since the place opened in the early 90s. The food was overpriced and bland but that's pretty standard for all Bill Grays. The service was just fine but even the employees seemed like they were left behind to deal with the husk of a once thriving business. The ambiance was that of an abandoned theme park restaurant. It could have easily been a really disgusting place if it were named Bile Grays. Thank goodness its not. It's actually one of Rochester's best fast-food-type places to eat, and definitely to get custard. It's so good I might start calling it "Brill Grays." So might little Starlight, my cat who accompanied me to this store on yesterday's Rochester food tour. What to get: World's best Cheeseburger, and some Abbott's Vanilla Custard! What else: Take Starlight, she loves the custard. If the place sold hay to farmers, it would be Bale Grays. Similarly, if actor and American Psycho Christian owned it, and murdered patrons regularly during consummation in front of a mirror, then it would be, yes, Bale Grays. And if you agree to meet someone here for dinner and then don't show, it's definitely Bail Grays. And if you're arrested for making up too many bad jokes in a Bill Grays review, then you'll need Bail Grays. This is my favourite location of Bill Gray's anywhere in the world (lol, since it's only in WNY). It has good service, a nice parking lot, it's set amongst some nice bushes, it's absolutely enormous with a yellowy brown building and huge red lettering, and it's so cool and lovely and spacious and well-designed on the inside. Honestly if this isn't their flagship marquee store, it should be. I came here for the Abbott's, not for the food, and it was the best-tasting Abbott's I've had. The two businesses are connected, by the way - they share the space at all the Bill Gray's locations. If you get your custard in a dish instead of a cone, which is a mistake btw since the cones are delicious, then it's Bowl Grays. Bill Grays is the only Rochester institution that has successfully "cracked" Buffalo, although it only has a few locations out in the 716, and one of them - in the mall - recently closed down along with the whole food court. If you take Ferris with you for dinner, then it's Bueller Grays. It's a wonderful place with an excellent Cheeseburger (the world's best, they boast), and they have a delicious frozen custard shop attached to every location (as far as I have seen until now) named Abbott's. I'll review that separately but if you are ever in a BGs, make sure you try the Abbott's Vanilla Custard. And if the manager comes over and says "hey! Why do you have a cat in the store!?!?!? Get her out of here!?!?!?!" then it should be renamed Banal Grays. read more

Picked up 3 meals (2 cheeseburgers and one kids hot dog) for takeout and was able to order online on the way to the restaurant. The food was ready when we got there and when we got home we enjoyed our delicious food. It had been a while since I've had Bill Grays but when I do get food from there, I always get the classic cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion and ketchup. It definitely hit the spot! I ordered their regular fries with my meal and my husband got their curly fries - next time I will definitely get those instead! My fries lacked some salt but the curly fries were perfect. My son enjoyed his zweigle red hot and had the Kraft Mac and cheese for his side. I like that the kids meal came with a two pack of Oreos on the side! I thought that was a nice touch. And I only got it in THAT time because the counter person finally went into the kitchen to see what was the hold up. And when she did, the kitchen girls gave HER an attitude! When they saw me sitting and watching them, they actually gave me dirty looks. Rolled their eyes and talked shit about me! At that point I really wanted to get my money back and leave but the food was for my poor brother who is terminally ill and waiting in the car. All he wanted was a burger on a hard roll before he freaking died. So. I waited patiently and took the abuse from the workers who CLEARLY HATE their jobs and the customers even more. And they want EVERYONE to know, too. That party of 7 I mentioned were also having issues with their food because it looked like it had to be redone or something and when the lady was checking to make sure it was prepared correctly the girl who brought it out got an attitude about it! Unbelievable. I know restaurant work is super hard. I know customers can be assholes. Believe me. I KNOW. But this experience was beyond the pale. The kitchen staff at this location needs to be fired. That's how bad they are. And of course the food was crap. They didn't make the cheeseburger the way I asked for and the fries were cold and undercooked. The hard roll was stale AND SOGGY. My brother could barely eat any of it. Even the Pepsi was trash. A waste of money. And since we had it to go ( I couldn't fathom spending a second longer in the place) I couldn't get my money back. The restaurant was filthy as well. Nobody was cleaning nor restocking utensils or napkins. When I TRIED to get some ketchup from the dispenser it was EMPTY! ANOTHER customer let one of the kitchen people know it was empty and she just looked at her like "what do you want ME to do about it?" Just Unbelievable. I never complain in restaurants but man, when I woke up this morning I was still pissed off about what happened. Hence this review. I'm going to call the owner if I can locate a good number because they need to either do better or just close this location down entirely. I say this because they've been getting very similar complaints for YEARS now according to a lot of these reviews here on YELP and on Google reviews. And nothing changes.. Don't they care at all? Sure doesn't seem like it. All that said, the woman at the counter was super awesome. She is very personable and sweet. She gives excellent customer service. (She served ice cream to the small family ahead of me and was extremely friendly with them, especially with the young girl.) Which is why all the kitchen workers obviously hate her. I feel sorry for her that she has to work with such hostile women. They were literally pissed off at her because she asked about my order and even helped put it together once it was finally done. So the 1 star is for the counter person. I hope she can quit that gig SOON. Suffice it to say I will never ever EVER return. And I want my money back. Tom Wahls is a million times better by the way. And the people who work there are always top notch, especially at the Monroe Avenue location. But this is where my brother wanted to go. We got home, and the food was the worse meal any of us have ever had. The onion rings were dark BROWN from being burnt or sitting in old oil. We walked in on a Tuesday evening at 4:46 pm. As we approached the counter we commented on how empty the place was. There was only one person in line ahead of us and she promptly ordered. Then......we waited several minutes until the girl at counter returned to take our order, 2 cheeseburgers and fries. Then we waited...and waited...and waited....and waited... 25 minutes later, like a miracle, our overcooked, paper thin burgers on huge buns were ready for pickup. We were extremely disappointed. This is my favorite place for me to get a Rochester famous garbage plate. Bill grays has great customer service and they always treat their customers with upmost respect at all times. This location was extremely clean and was great in terms of making sure food got out quickly but most importantly well done. Bill grays is known for their Rochester plates also known as garbage plates which are a must to get especially if you're not local to the Rochester area. Being new to the Rochester area, I seriously thought Bill Gray's was the name of a car dealership. Oops. Thankfully, Yelp corrected me on this before I embarrassed myself. Tucked in the back corner of a strip mall, Bill Gray's is.... I dunno. It's kind of like a mall food court that hasn't been updated in 15 years. It's a hodgepodge of vintage decorations, flat screen tv's, and kid-friendly decor. For example, there's a (dusty) hot air balloon hanging down the center with stuffed animals in it, but on an adjacent wall, there are vintage advertisements. It's like they're trying to be Applebees, but with less style. When you order food, you go up to a counter, like a fast food place. The menu is fairly large, and includes everything from cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, tater tots, milkshakes, and more. On the other side of the counter is an Abbott's ice cream station, which was really tempting. For dinner, I ordered the Honey BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, and my boyfriend had the Double Cheeseburger with everything. As a side, we ordered a basket of fried mushrooms, on the recommendation of another reviewer. For everything, including drinks, it came to $26. Ouch! My burger was okay. Not terrible, not great. The buns were fresh, which was a bonus. However, there was too much bun, and not enough juice from the burger or the BBQ sauce. The bites were dry and underwhelming. The burger it'self is a thin patty, which didn't have much moisture. My boyfriend said his burger was decent, and that the hot sauce was good. Our fried mushrooms were quite the disappointment. They were ready after we had finished our burgers, which was annoying. Secondly, you could tell that they were frozen mushrooms, not the fresh ones we were hoping for. They were hot, and some of the batter wasn't all the way cooked on them. For over $7, I was expecting a lot better. Overall, our experience at Billy Gray's was an experience. This place would be great for families, especially with the seating and the menu variety.
