Where do I begin to explain how appreciative I am for Bill's assistance in getting three safes open for us. My friend is moving and we couldn't get his safes open no matter how many times we tried. We called several locksmiths early in the week and they all strung us along throughout the week and, finally, just before my friend has to leave on his move, one locksmith agreed to show up but would charge over $1600 to open three safes! Insane! I searched Yelp and found all the stellar reviews for Bill. I called, left a message, and he conscientiously called me back shortly. Since there was not much time for an in-home visit, Bill worked with me on the phone for over an hour helping me through the correct process to complete the combinations and finally open the safes! I wouldn't have written a review except that it is rare for someone to stand behind their work these days so I wanted to acknowledge integrity. Bill was referred to me when I told a friend that I needed help opening an antique etagere that I purchased at an estate sale. I called him and he set up a time to come by. He was very courteous and prompt. Bill let me know that old locks that require a skeleton key were not his expertise but he'd give it a shot. He quoted a price for a service call that was very reasonable but said that there would be no charge if he was unable to unlock the cabinet. Unfortunately, the lock would not budge after Bill spent an hour working diligently and utilizing every tool in his box. He didn't charge me for coming out and referred me to another locksmith that he thought had more experience with antiques. Unfortunately, (I won't mention any names) the others I contacted were much more expensive. Bill came highly recommended to me. Very professional and thorough. I first worked with Bill when we first moved into our house. He spent all day at our place making sure every lock was just right and even adjusted the locks as necessary so that the doors would lock seamlessly. We were dealing with a sticky key issue as well as some lock issues. The lock worked but was definitely more difficult than it should be to get into our home! Never thought I would write a review on a locksmith! I emailed Bill to request an appointment and we started an email chain back and forth to diagnose the problem. He was so helpful in the emails that my decision to hire him was easy. When we did settle on a time for him to come out and fix a doorknob, he was very pleasant and patient. I wish there were a way to give 6 stars, or ten: Bill Walter deserves them. He is a wonderful locksmith (thorough, knowledgeable, and a perfectionist), but also warm, patient, and understanding. I had a lock that was damaged in a few different ways--the product of a bad installation years ago, exacerbated by a previous bad repair attempt--and had ordered some replacement parts .. but the replacement parts that had been sent were the wrong size. Bill laughed and made do, patiently filing the wrong-sized pieces, and improvising alternatives from his magic truck, to make the whole thing work. Bill Walter is not only the best locksmith I have ever found but one of the sweetest and most generous people I have ever met. He came over to help me to get into my locked house. Before either he or I even got there, my neighbor had tried to help me get in by breaking the collar of the lock. I didn't see my neighbor do this but nonetheless when I got home the collar was broken. I called Bill the next day and asked if he could come fix the collar of the lock that was broken, because I assumed he had broken it while opening my door. He was NOT the one who broke the collar of the lack but he CAME OVER TO FIX IT FOR FREE!
