Noah's Café in Lafayette is truly a hidden gem that captures the heart of Southern cooking. I came here three times in four days, and each visit reminded me why good food and good people make the best combination. The first time, I ordered the barbecue ribs served over rice dressing, and they were tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. On my second visit, I tried the smothered okra, which came with a whole quarter piece of chicken and sausage over rice--comfort food at its finest. For my last visit, I couldn't resist the ribs again, this time paired with yams, coleslaw, and pork stew. Every dish tasted like it was made with love right in someone's home kitchen. The staff is kind and welcoming, and even though there's usually a line if you arrive later in the day, it moves quickly. Uh, so let me preface this by saying, the customer service was super stellar and for that alone I would revisit; however, with the utmost respect to the owners of this establishment. I think they need a new recipe for the cornbread dressing and the macaroni and cheese. These two items were extremely lackluster and not good at all. Now, the ribs, candied yams and the roast pork were great and delish but those other sides need some help. The cornbread dressing was dark brown teetering on black in color, which I've never seen in my life. And the macaroni was just that with little to no cheese. The atmosphere is also very inviting and comfortable to sit and dine in. I meant I would return and try other options because the lady at the register was super sweet and kind but in all honesty, those two sides need a recipe overhaul. read more

Home cooking Cajun style. You line up and go down the counter asking for what you see. Simple tables and chairs if you don't take out. I got fried pork chops and cornbread dressing with a couple veg. Since a coworker told me about it and...(then to prove she was right about how great it was)...took me there last week and now I can't stop telling people about Noah's Cafe. They only do lunch so get there between 10 and 2 if you want to try this place. They do excellent plate lunches with your choice of a protein and two sides. On my first visit I chose the crawfish etouffee and the fried catfish with corn moque choux and smothered okra for my sides. It was delicious! Honestly, like my granny made it. The next time I got a BLT and added grilled onions and a fried egg to it which was a total game changer and blew my mind it was so dang yummy! I got a case of serious food envy as I was leaving today when I passed a table that was sharing a plate of huge, crunchy looking and delicious smelling onion rings. Had to get some tires next door... So... Good time to grab a snack. Noahs just down the street. Went for the burger... And of course I had to sample the fried okra. If your gonna offer fried okra, I'm gonna judge you. Burger was a solid yummy flat grill burger. Def tasty. I prefer dredged okra... But for breaded, it was really good. Extra crispy and hot. When asked what is the best restraunt for soul food? The people of Lafayette have suggested several local soul food restaurants. Noah's cafe was on the list. Nestled in a small strip mall this is a hidden gem. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I spoke with Mary who is a total sweetheart and along with the others had great customer service. They have a great menu, something for everyone. I ordered the turkey wings with cornbread dressing, green beans and yams. The portions were huge, hot, and fresh. The wings were well seasond moist tender fall off the bone goodness with an explosion of flavor. The cornbread dressing was the best dressing I have ever had and compliments the spices of the wings. The green beans were also seasoned well and the yams were so fresh and tasty a balance of sweet savory cinnamon deliciousness. The other dish we ordered was the fried pork chop plate with 2 large scoops of mashed potatoes and gravy baked mac and cheese and green beans. Now, the pork chops are made to order they were not overly battered so you could tast the freshness of the pork which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The mashed potatoes were fresh and homemade with brown gravy that gave them the added taste. The mac and cheese perfectly cooked pasta is creamy cheesey yummy goodness. I don't go to Noah's anymore because there prices have shot through the roof for a plate lunch. When I used to wait in line they were more worried about fixing plate lunches to go more than taking care of Thier customers standing in line. So sad. Food always good. They should have another area set up in back for to go orders. I am not happy about the service we receive when there. Place always clean. read more

After discovering this golden gem in Lafayette for the first time, I was hooked. Theres always a line during lunch time, so be prepare and know what you want to order, once they are ready to take you order, they do not play no games! They try to get people in and out, which keeps the line moving! We had tried the following: - Roast Beef Poboy - delicious roast beef poboy, just the perfect amount of mayo, and the bread was really nice and soft on the inside, and chewy on the outside - Smothered Chicken + Cornbread Dressing + Potato Salad w/Cornbread - the smothered chicken was okay, not big fan of chicken white meat, unless its fried ;) , the dressing and potato salad was delicious, and the cornbread was nice and moist - Hamburger Steak + Cornread Dressing + Corn w/Cornbread - hamburger steak was really delicious, very flavorful - Shrimp Jambalaya? - not exactly sure if this is the correct name on the menu, but it was indeed delicious! Very flavorful and big portion I noticed a lot of people ordered the etouffee with fried fish.. and I also hear the bread pudding is to die for... I think I will try that next time I come! read more

These ladies deserve five stars solely based on the friendliness. I was so amazed that in today's society that people are still this nice in the service industry. So now to the food. I ordered the red beans and sausage. Let me tell you that is the best sausage I had all week and the red beans were soft and seasoned to a perfection. I also had the mashed potatoes and gravy which was equally as amazing. The sweet tea is perfect. I truly could not say one negative thing about this place. Go and support these ladies and their great smiles that come with amazing food! I decided to try Noah's today. I've known about this place for some time but never stopped. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti and meatballs was really good. The meatballs were a decent size and very good. I ordered more to make a meatball sub. The sauce was good and not salty. Plus it had a touch of sweetness to it, which I like. The only complaint is the green beans were a bit salty. It was one of the sides that came with the meal. But in no way does that takes away from the fact that this was a really good meal. read more

Visited this place today. For $9, you get plenty of food. The prices do vary for other items but everything is very affordable. I had the red beans and rice with sausage, and a double side of cornbread dressing. The food was very good and definitely had that home cooked vibe. The cornbread dressing was especially good! I am frustrated with Noah's, our company orders from them and almost every time they mess up plates. In my case, they always include (and mix in) salad croutons which I am allergic to. While the food can be good when they get it right their attention to detail leaves us with wasted food and frustrated people. read more

Today is the last time I am going to Noah's, which is a shame, because I love the food. The service has hit an all time low, and we didn't think it could get worse. There is no greeting, or there was none for us. The first employee was changing pans, and I know this is necessary, but a Hello please give me a minute would have been nice. After waiting about 5 minutes, she says what do you want? No hello, thanks for waiting or what would you like? The attitude in the voice almost sent us out the door. We placed our order, and then had to wait why she fixed the entrée. She slides the plates down, and starts talking to the man behind us. After taking his order and fixing his entrée, she then asks him what 2 sides he wants. She completes his order and hands it to him, where he then bypasses us and goes to the register. Then she asks what we would like as our sides. I then go to the register to pay for the meals, only to be yelled at, hey lady, roll or muffin? I didn't answer right away because I thought surely she is not screaming at me? But no, she hollers at me again. I give her my answer. Taking my credit card back from the cashier, I lean over and tell her, this is our last visit. She starts to laugh at me. Right there I meant it. I told her, no, I mean it. We're done. She then begins to laugh again. Well, we're done. For the price, bad service should not have to be dealt with ever! read more
