Great repair shop. Seems family owned and operated. The guy who helped me, didn't talk down to me because I was a pregnant women, but explained what he thought might be the problem and how he was going to test it. He even tested the battery and the started in front of me. I was a bit put out when he told me how much parts and repairs would be if the starter had to be replaced, but looked up parts prices when I got home and discovered it was a fair price. Plus, it ended up just being the battery so I came out spending $300 less then the estimate. When I picked-up the car, he did say a whole lot of things that should be looked at in the future that will cost some $$$, but they were all things I was kinda of aware were not working perfect and most would be taken care of in a tune-up anyways. Oh, and for those who are wondering about the dog, its the shop pet and is nice. I didn't pet him, but he was super nice. read more

Mt. View Radiator is great. I have always been able to show up and be serviced. They have great customer service and are very friendly. They seem to remember me each time I am there. Its a family run business and they seem to have a lot of fun at what they do - and know what they are doing! They have done regular oil changes, replaced the battery and the brakes. Each time I have been offered a lift home and then picked up when my car is ready. read more

My car had been "missing" for a few days, and I was really concerned that I needed a tune-up. Headed to MV Radiator, and Manny gave me a quote. He then asked if my Check Engine Light had come on, and I said "no". As I left the shop, lo and behold, that little light lit up. I called Manny when I got home, and he said to bring my car (a 2000 Subaru Outback wagon) in right away. He pulled out a hand-held diagnostic device and told me to turn the engine on. By that time, Manny's dad Bill joined us and we chatted while Manny was running the test. A few minutes later, Manny determined that one of my spark plugs was bad. Turns out, the wire had broken off the top of the plug. He grabbed another plug from his stash, installed it, and I started the car up again. It sounded 100% better! My oil was low, so Manny added 1/2 quart. These guys are so awesome! I had taken my car to them a year ago, to have belts replaced, tune up, oil changed, etc, and felt immensely comfortable with their honesty and customer service. Yesterday, Manny could have told me that I needed a complete tune-up ($400+), but instead he did a quick diagnosis and all I needed was a plug. Additionally, Bill looked at my tires, which are pretty worn, and told me they would last me through the summer if I just rotated them, front to back. The radiator they put in my car only lasted a year and I had to take it in to another mechanic to get it unclogged. It was a very cheap radiator that was not a good match for my car. I do not recommend this place at all since the radiator barely worked a few month before it stopped keeping my engine cool. I trusted the yelp reviews but from now on I'll be suspicious if there are no negative reviews because of my experience here. read more

I called to see if Mountain View Radiator could replace my battery. The man I spoke with said they didn't have the battery, but if I brought it in he would replace it for free! I ended up getting the battery installed at the place where I bought the battery, but this company definitely gets five stars from me for being so generous with their help. Just completed my second smog check with Mountain View Radiator. Passed without a problem. At the time of my first smog check with them, my check engine light was on, and another shop recommended replacing the catalytic converter, a $1200 job, to get the car to pass. Manny recommended a tankful of premium gas and a can of Techron. Worked like a charm. The check engine light has stayed off, and just passed this last check without any adjustments. Also, my rear lights went out the evening before I brought the car in. Manny checked bulbs, fuses and voltage readings under the hood. He discovered that I must have turned off a switch that controlled the rear lights. He didn't charge me for the time spent, correcting a problem I created. So glad I discovered this shop! read more

I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!!!!!! I have now been here twice, and they have actually charged me a grand total of zero dollars for their services. I needed a new headlight and they searched high and low for the part, had it shipped over, and then put it in, and just charged me for the cost of the part. Then later my car broke down right in front of their store, so they towed me in, fixed the problem, and just charged me for the price of the towing, which they said I should be able to recoup from AAA. I literally had to push money at them. That said, don't expect them to never charge you for anything. They gotta make a living right? My hubby had his oil changed there and paid a normal rate. They're just SO friendly and so awesome and are really really great at customer service. And have a well behaved dog you can play with while you wait. I would recommend these guys in a heartbeat. read more

I have a 10-year-old car that is in excellent shape thanks to the care given by the Bill, Manny, Tim, and the rest of the guys at Mountain View Radiator. Don't let the name of the shop fool you. These experienced guys can fix any car problem in a reasonable amount of time and at a reasonable cost. Not only do they do smog checks and radiator repairs, but they also work on complex problems and on the most complicated systems. I trust them completely. As long as I live in or near Mountain View and own a car I will be their customer. read more

My daughter and I were fully loaded, running late, and heading to a family camping trip that I was hosting for about 40 families when I got a flat in front of the shop. This place is terrible--I went in for a simple repair, got an estimate of $100 and two hours. Three days and $1000 later, my car still wasn't fixed. They kept claiming they needed to do more and more things, add more time and expense, etc. I went in with a drivable, functioning car and was asked to spend $1000 bucks--after I did all that the strange engine noise I went in for was still there! They might have been trying to rip me off but more likely they were just incompetent. There are no shortage of auto shops around on El Camino, I would avoid this one like the plague. At first, I got highly impressed with the Mountain View Radiator guys' friendly nature. I went there to check some weird sound coming from the serpentine belt area. The radiator Doctor heard the sound of broken bearing inside the alternator with his stethoscope. He also asked me to hear the sound with his stethoscope. Though I was not sure about the sound in alternator I gave him a positive response. He suggested me to replace the Alternator. Since I was busy that day and the car was running good I decided to come next day. But on that evening the weird sound became louder and ultimately the water pump started to move irregularly. After giving a close look I saw some oil and grease coming out of the water pump. In the next morning, I went to that doctor with new complain of the water pump. This time he suggested me to change both alternator and water pump and belts. As alternator was new I requested him to replace only the water pump and belts. I bought the best quality water pump, serpentine belt and A/C belts that I could find at Kragen and I agreed to opt out their one year warranty of repair due to not using their so called original parts. They did the labor things in $300. But from the next day my car started to give chirping sound though it's not so big problem. Usually the sound goes off after 5 minutes of starting the engine. As the sound did not stop even after a couple months I went to inform the radiator doctor about this problem. Now, he told me that the A/C belt is old and needs to be replaced ($180 with parts and labor). Though I provided him both belts he said I gave him only the serpentine belt. Since there was grease spreading all over the belts from the broken water pump it does not make any sense to use the oily A/C belt. Yet I could not believe him that he could repair the chirping sound by replacing A/C belt. Then I decided simply to ovoid these doctors. As the other reviewer say their stethoscope may work only for radiator problems. Over all: + 4 star for their friendliness. -1 star for wrong diagnosis of alternator failure instead of Water pump which finally broke on next day. -2 star for using greasy old A/C belt and saving the new one that I provided him. read more

Beware!!!! I was part of the dealings with this company on my friends car. He was out of town so I talking to this company. They charge $2400 for a coolant leak and 6 weeks later the car was out of coolant and had to be towed to the nearest licensed shop. They said the car has a slow leak that was not fixed by the last repair and to take the car back to MV Radiator. They were friendly and said 12 month warranty. They replace the radiator with a refurbished one to see if it corrected the problem, same problem that $2400 was paid. The car left and 5 weeks later after the coolant had to filled up twice they offered to correct the problem. WHen the car was picked up they wanted $1000 or they would not give the car back. THey said they would take $700 cash on warranty work. How can one problem that was paid in full keep costing money to repair. There will be a complaint filled with the Attorney General of CA, the Bureau of Repairs, BBB and small claims. Beware they fix problems over and over again and do not honor their work read more

I took my car in for a 60k checkup at the dealership. (I probably should have shopped around for that but didn't.) They called and said that there was a major problem - there were leaks in my radiator and hoses and it all needed to be replaced. Quoted me almost $1200!! I went to Mountain View Radiator before for my other car so thought I'd check to see what they say. First off, their quote was significantly less (go figure with a dealership). But they ended up doing their own diagnostics and let me know that the radiator was actually fine, though the hoses and the cap needed to be replaced. Wow - so happy to know there is a shop that actually looks after you and only gives you the service you need. Especially these days when we can't afford to throw money around, I was so pleased with their service. Since this was actually the second time I've been here, it confirmed that it wasn't just a fluke - but that they really are great. Thanks so much Manny! read more
