First time at Bill's Cafe at this location and it was fine! There was about a 20 minute way on Sunday for brunch and there is a waiting area outside and inside. You will need to scan the QR code to get on the waitlist and they will text you once your table is ready. On the waitlist, you can say if you want indoor seating or patio seating. We ordered the omelette, basic breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with no meat and potatoes + toast, then 4 mini waffles on the side. The waffle was much bigger than I thought but it was perfect size! The waiter came to our table often to refill coffee which was good. There's a parking lot or you can take BART to Fremont and walk about a mile to Bill's Cafe. Had a wonderful time here for brunch with my friend.. she suggested the crab cake benny which we ordered and they brought out a bacon Benedict or whatever it was and we didn't even realize it until we both cut into our own plate and realized we're eating meat. The interior is spacious but always packed with people - inside & out in the parking lot which means there's usually a wait & scarce parking. Food-wise, I'm not generally a sweet breakfast person but they do their pancakes really well! However, would not recommend the cinnamon roll as it was small & dry. Get the cinnamon pancakes instead if you're going for the cinnamon roll vibe - 100% better. Unfortunately, the savory options have been a miss for me. My friend got the Lox Bagel and was left wanting a little more - it's a pricy item on the menus and it is saved with eggs and hash browns. The eggs and hash browns looked standard - the bagel came out after about 5 minutes so she had to eat those first while she waited. When the bagel and cream cheese finally came out, she was able to enjoy the lox. It came with lettuce instead of capers which is what I've seen to be standard when it comes to higher end west coast diners. The chicken was juicy and not dry at all. The chicken all came with dark meat, wing, drumstick, and thigh. The waffle was soft, but could be a tiny bit crispier. They have the right amount of food and drink options. Service was good, wait for food wasn't too long, and our waiter was friendly. Fun fact: The espresso martini has no espresso! One thing they could improve on: Communication on large parties of 6+. We were a group of 8 and their website asks to call the restaurant ahead of time. I did that morning and was told to call 30 minutes before I planned to arrive so I could get my name on the list. And when I did call, I was told my table would be ready in 35 minutes. (On the way to the restaurant, I got a text that my table was ready, but when I called the restaurant again, I was told they sent the message by accident.) When I arrived, I was told to wait another 30 minutes until another table was cleared up. It ended up being a 20-minute wait, which wasn't bad. But it still left me confused: I didn't expect the additional wait time after checking in at the front desk. Takeaway: Even if you do call ahead for a 6+ person party, expect to wait after you check in at the front desk because they don't have a reservation system. The website and hostesses can do a better job of communicating that. That aside, the rest of my time there was smooth. read more

I really wanted to enjoy our experience at Jim's Cafe because the food itself had some positives, and I appreciated that they were even open and answering phones on Memorial Day. Unfortunately, the overall experience felt disorganized and lacking in customer service. When we called, we were encouraged to join the waitlist, which initially seemed like a great system. There were 17 people ahead of us, but the list moved extremely fast; our name came up in less than 15 minutes while we were still driving over. Since parking is very limited and we weren't close enough yet, we added our name again and waited in the car once we arrived. We then received a text saying our table was ready. THREE minutes later, we got another text saying we had been removed from the list. Considering the parking situation and the fact that there's a walk involved, that felt unreasonable. I immediately called and was told they only give people about 4-5 minutes to arrive depending on how busy they are. However, my phone clearly showed we were removed after only 3 minutes, and I had called within 4 minutes. When I politely asked about the policy at the front counter, the employee explained that management tells them to remove people after 3-5 minutes depending on how busy they are. The interaction itself also felt dismissive; there was little eye contact or customer engagement while speaking with us or seating us. As for the food, I ordered the California omelette with egg whites, hashbrowns, and sourdough toast. My date ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of hashbrowns. The biscuits were soft, and the hashbrowns were honestly the best part of the meal: fluffy, homemade, and delicious. Unfortunately, the gravy itself was not very tasty. There were also some cleanliness and service concerns. The silverware was not very clean, and we had to replace our coffee cups as well. Our server was not very attentive, and we eventually had to look for him just to get our bill. Unfortunately, this feels like a restaurant that has become so popular that it can no longer consistently provide quality customer service to match the demand. Customer service and cleanliness is as important as the food for me, so I won't return. If customer service details and attentiveness are important to you, this may not be the place for you. If you're mainly coming for the food and don't mind the service issues, you may still enjoy it. read more
