Number one reason to visit Dayton, OH. This place has the best donuts in the state. My go to is the chocolate covered cream filled. I can't go in here without getting 2 donuts for now and some for later. if i don't have cash for 2 donuts ill just buy a dozen because its worth it. Personnel here are always friendly and if you need a donut in the middle of the night, they are open. I have always considered Bill's donuts the best in this area. However, my feelings have seriously changed. The quality of customer service has greatly depreciated--along with the taste, quantity, and selection of donuts. For example, went in on a Sunday at noon (heavy "church" traffic), and to my shock they were "sold-out" of cream filled donuts. The lady behind the counter said, 'A lady before me just "cleaned them out." Not sure if a box that holds a dozen donuts justifies "cleaning out!" (I saw this lady). I saw an article about the best donut shops in each state and this was listed as the best in Ohio due to their pretzel donuts. So that meant road trip! When we pulled in, it was jam packed and we got the last of 3 spaces available. If it's that crowded people gotta know something, right? We got there at 9:45am and with a line of about 25 people it moved very fast with all of the staff behind the counter. We tried the chocolate cream filled, peanut butter cream filled, a stick cake donut and of course the pretzel donut. We split the pretzel donut first and I guess I was under the impression it was basically glazed pretzel bread which is what intrigued me to go but it was just a glazed donut twisted like a pretzel. Don't get me wrong, a delicious donut but not what I thought it was supposed to be. The cake stick donut...oh. my. Lord. I wanted to run back in and get a dozen. The hubby loved it too and it was easily a favorite. The chocolate cream filled, sadly, was hard. The cream and chocolate were good but the actual donut was like it had been sitting for hours. I have no doubt if it were fresh it would've been good. The peanut butter filled was the best peanut butter filling I've had anywhere and I've had a lot of peanut butter filled donuts. (Slapping belly) Sadly, it too was not fresh on the donut front. I also believe this would be a dream donut had it been fresh and soft. I'm sure we'll be back in the future but in addition to the stick donut we'll maybe try a few others. Oh and the lady that waited on us was the only one with a bit of an attitude. I moved to CA this year and I am still grieving over the loss of my Bill's Doughnuts. No one makes a sour cream doughnut that makes me teeth tingle from the sugar as well as Bill's does. I also believe they infused their cream filling with crack because there is no other white creamy substance I have found that is quite as delectable. I spent many a late night after imbibing in tasty adult beverages at Bill's and the bond my friends and I shared over coffee, doughnuts, and drunken stories cannot be broken. Super crowded on Saturday morning. It was about a 15 minute wait. Line moves fairly quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The donuts were good, but not awesome. I tried the famous pretzel donut, the plain persian, the nut persian, the glazed French cruller and the pumpkin cake. The best was the French cruller which was moist and eggy on the inside, slightly crisp on the outside. The rest of the donuts were slightly more chewy than I am used to in a donut and reminded me of pizza crust. Pretty tasty but not really what I look for in a donut. read more

I've come here a few times at different hours of the day. On separate occasions, I've come here before 10am, around 3pm, after dinner around 7-8pm, 10:30pm and midnight. It surprises me, although it wasn't a surprise to the locals, that the busiest time of the day (from my experience) for this 24-hr locale was 10pm and after! On a Saturday at 9 pm, there was a line out the door to get these sugary delights. I had read so many great things about this donut shop and added it to my "list" of must try. So, when we were in the area last night, it made sense to stop here after the kiddos spent 1 1/2 hours jumping at skyzone - figured they could use some carbs. Ha ha. We waited in line for approximately 20 minutes and it was worth the wait. The seasonal donut - red velvet cake was exceptional! And the guy that took our order actually gave us that donut for free because we forgot to add it in our original dozen we purchased. Simply amazing. I recently moved to the area and have tried Bill's and the current "best of Dayton", and it is nowhere nearly as good as Bill's. Most of the donuts I have had are light and not overly greasy which I really don't like in donuts. My favorite is the pumpkin. They don't skimp on icing or filling for the donuts that have those. The times I have been there (Saturday or Sunday morning / early afternoon) have been fairly busy but the line moves pretty quickly. The coffee isn't bad either, plus it is cheap! read more

I've been looking for a powdered doughnut done right since I've left California. I can finally say I've finally found it! The doughnuts here are amazing. I got that one and the glazed doughnut, which were both great. My wife got the red velvet and the peanut butter doughnut and she loved both of them. Best donuts East of the Mississippi River. No joke, the prices are unbeatable. For a single donut, you pay 70 cents. A dozen donuts I believe is under $6. They are open 24 hours a day.
