Feeling a craving for a cheeseburger, but not wanting a run-of-the-mill sandwich from Burger King or McDonald's, I decided to pay "Roy's Squeeze Inn" a visit and treat myself to a "much better burger" experience. Roy's, is a throw back to a time when small "mom and pop" hamburger stands were commonplace across the American landscape, especially on the old two-lane U.S. Highway System. Sadly, in today's fast paced world, chain restaurants have proliferated across the nation, and the food they serve all tastes the same. Roy's is located on what is today the Business routing of US-12, or locally known as Michigan Avenue in a building that was built as the "Donut Kitchen" in the early 1950s. This was a great place for coffee and homemade donuts, which was the number one hangout for local police officers on Ypsilanti's Historic East Side back in the day. It was always interesting to drive down Michigan Ave, and check out all the police vehicles parked at this building which, amazingly enough back in those days was never robbed by criminals. I decided to order the "Quarter Squeeze Cheese," and it was out of this world amazingly delicious, with the potato wedges. The young lady at the counter was absolutely fantastic and provided great service. The nostalgic vibe from this place is priceless, and is like being transported in a time machine back to an era when nobody was worried about counting calories. As such, they do not accept Apple Pay, credit or debit cards, just CASH ONLY! I really need to try their BBQ Pork sandwich the next time I go there.

BEST BURGER THIS SIDE OF MICHIGAN!! The 1/4 cheese squeeze with mushrooms and a side of onion rings is my go to! Amazing!

Great roadside destination diner dating back to 1953. The half-pound cheese burger had a terrific sear, but was a tad over cooked. The onion rings were also very good. The he best part of the visit was ... Tamera. Great waitress that does her job cheerfully and with few wasted motions. Will I return? Yes!

Little Squeeze with cheese, very flavorful and delicious, so are the seasoned wedge fries and onion rings.

Roy's only serve hamburgers & cheeseburgers in 3 different sizes. Small, medium & large are the sizes. The sides we have tried were onion rings & seasoned wedges. Both delicious. If in the area stop & get a burger & some fries you won't be disappointed. We will be eating there again. The service is nice & friendly.

DEEE-licous!! I've been wanting to eat here ever since I moved to Ypsilanti several years ago and was SO excited to make it today with a friend. I had seen a great interview on the Michigan PBS program "Under the Radar". I had the Quarter Squeeze Burger and fried mushrooms! The perfectly toasted bun, FRESH ground meat and toppings made every bite "yummmm-worthy"! Now I can't wait to come back and bring my grandsons! They're gonna love the nostalgic ambiance too! I was reminded of spot similar to this in a little town I grew up in North Carolina (but it's no longer there) Now I'm happy!!

We were escorted to our table by our lovely host, and when we arrived at our table in the back of the restaurant, there was a cute "happy birthday" table card waiting for us. This was incredibly thoughtful and a nice touch for our celebration dinner. Also, I love how this restaurant is decorated - the art work, the furniture, and plants - all come together to create a welcoming, cozy, warm atmosphere for any dining experience. I also love how the menu continuously rotates and highlights fresh produce from local suppliers. We both ordered a different dish and shared, plus we had some leftovers, so the portions are very generous. We also tried some of the oysters with vinaigrette they were fresh and delicious. To conclude our dinner, we were gifted with a DELIGHTFUL banana pudding with a scoop of ice cream and a candle to make a wish (though our wish for a wonderful meal and dining experience was throughly satisfied already ) Thanks again for a great time bellflower!

The salad was fresh and well dressed - simple but good. The second starter was sardine tin. Very very good. Not overly fishy and the garnishes served with it were perfect. For mains which are enough to share, one was the trout! Absolutely well seasoned and crispy. It is served whole and butterflied. We changed the side to the house vegetable. OMG these sautéed garden veggies were the best! The other main was a Japanese curry dish. Here is why the five starting dropped to a four. It was just ok. We would not order again. For dessert we had the bread pudding- another star for the night! To the owner, terrific staff. Everyone we engaged in, were positive and knowledgeable. They are a great team! Looking forward to a second visit!

My favorites are the Reuben, the Georgia Reuben, and Tarb's Tenacious Tenure. The latkes and knishes are also fantastic. There was a period where the bread was so sharp it felt like my mouth was getting cut up every time I ate there, which honestly became part of the experience. But the past few times I've gone, the bread has been perfect. Zingerman's Deli lives up to the hype.

So while it was chaotic and overwhelming, the workers would hand you a menu, explain the purchasing process and even give you requested samples! Due to trying a sample of their pretzel, I ended buying a bag. An $8 bag!!! It was perfectly crunchy and buttery and very good! I don't even like pretzels and these impressed me. Also got a $9 bag of only 5 palmier cookies. They were good but definitely a splurge. BF bought a small bottle of balsamic vinegar for $23, like wut?! I eyed a jar of salsa for $28 and jam for $16 but damn, everything was way above even farmer's market prices. The sandwiches start at $18 for a small and go to $24 for a large. BF and I got the chicken avocado on challah bread and a new crunchy pickle. Zingerman's does a good job with their pickles! Skins were a little too hard but I love that they're not overly pickled and still crunchy and not too much other seasoning. For $21, the sandwich was not very big and they don't include chips or fries. If I lived closer, heck yes I would come here pretty often to try a sample and buy a very expensive baked good. I appreciated the very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was giving Trader Joe's employee energy! Parking was a little tricky but not impossible. We came with locals so they knew what was up.

When I asked her how I can leave a tip (because there was no option to), she explained that this is a self-serve place, so tip is not needed. The stores at the airport even asks for tip, so I was pleasantly surprised and appreciated the notion. I ordered their pho dac biet. I was asked if I wanted a lot of noodles or not. I was taken aback by the question, so I told her just the normal amount is fine. She then shares that their portion is not big which is what she asks all her customers when they order pho. The bowl was quite sad looking, lacked green onions, cilantro, meats, and no kidding on the noodles. The broth was clean but lacked that beefy richness. The herbs were fresh and they offered jalapeno slices and a line wedge unlike the place I went to on Sunday. But for the price, I could not expect more.
