Definitely a philly cheesesteak ish type feel to this sandwich. Final verdict; The Monica is a jack of all trades kind of a restaurant which I'm sure we've all had in our own areas. They were a little behind in refilling my water cup, but otherwise, super friendly and you go up to the front desk to pay, at least that's what we did when we were done. Their menu offers a mix of Native American food and Mexican food, primarily a mix of popovers aka fry bread in replacement of tortillas for some dishes. I got the popover sample, which is a sample of their popover with green chile, red chili and refried bean taco. Their chili come with beef. It's a decent size if you're not starving and they also give free chips & salsa, so it was the perfect amount for me. The server said for the sampler, they take what's normally one large popover and split it into 3 pieces, so it gives you an idea of what one large popover size looks like. I ordered a house salad with blue cheese, and tortilla soup. Friend asked for more muffins; server didn't acknowledge the request but did bring more of them. Our food came. My salad had the blue cheese dressing already in/on the salad. It was very good. The tortilla soup was more (flavorful) broth than meat with lots of tortilla strips in it, and a few kernels of corn. Friend's burger and salad was exactly the way she wanted it. I had to ask for more water. Friend had to ask for more water as well and each time we were served with no comment from the server. Friend asked for more muffins. They were brought with no comment. She had to ask for a to-go container for the left over muffins twice. Friend and I hadn't seen each other in a long time so we were there awhile - 2 hours. The place was never full so it wasn't as if our table was needed. It got to the point where the server stopped coming by our table and, to my amazement, then stopped at the table and picked up our signed credit card statements and walked away without a word! I have NEVER had a server do that. Friend mentioned that it looked like he definitely wanted us GONE!!!! Had I known we would be treated this way, I wouldn't have left my 20%+ tip. Used to have waitresses take your order, then they changed it to where you placed your order at the front and now it's back to waitresses taking your order. They were out of french fries when we were there. We did have a waitress that seemed to forget us. Took about 10 minutes for someone to finally come over and take our drink order and then the waitress forgot one of our sodas and we had to get up and find her to ask about it. It was only 2 of us so it wasn't like it was a big drink order. The place was fairly empty when we first got there so not sure why it was so hard to get waited on it first.

"As long as no other dogs are around!" I replied. My dog was tired from her vaccines and was very quiet. She lay down and snoozed throughout my meal, although I did toss her some chicken when no one was looking. I was only the third table back there. I ordered chips and salsa ($1 extra) and my Chicken Burro enchilada style came out moments later. Service was excellent throughout my meal. I ordered the sour cream-green chile sauce over my burro. It was very tasty! The chicken was good, but the rice was very salty. The flour tortilla was thick, too. I ate it all because I was hungry. I like how this restaurant is designed. The bar is in the front, separated by a long hall way that then opens into two separate dining areas. One dining area is its own room and both face the patio. It saddens me to say this about a long-time Tucson staple, but I was not a huge fan of Poco and Mom's. I got the Silver City breakfast and added red chile pork. It's hash browns smothered with onion, green chile sauce, eggs, red chile pork, and cheese. I will start off by saying that the green chile sauce was good; tangy and flavorful. However, I did not enjoy the taste or texture of the hash browns - to me, they tasted like they were rehydrated dry hash browns from a box. The red chile pork was dry and tough, but the red chile sauce itself was fine. This breakfast was accompanied by a side of refried beans, which were on the blander side compared to most I've had at restaurants in Tucson. Another person in my party had the New Mexico red chile enchilada. This is where things went more downhill. The red chile sauce tasted bitter and almost burnt, nothing like I've had in New Mexico. It was not good. Their dish came with a side of rice which was also very underwhelming. The flavor was fine, but it didn't have that light and fluffy texture that good Mexican rice does - it was more dense and slightly gummy. The last person in our party got a ground beef chimi and didn't enjoy the flavor of the seasoning used on the ground beef. Could be a personal preference thing. They did enjoy the sauce it was smothered with, though. I did enjoy the atmosphere in Poco and Mom's. It is very cozy and the southwestern decor was charming. Our waitress was also great! I may be back to try their drinks or their sopapillas, but I don't think I'd return for anything else.
