I love this bar!! And they sing that song too at Karaoke all the time, so it must be true! The beers cheap, the pours are good, and the bartenders are way cool! Their big nights are Friday and Saturday for Karaoke, and they even have a country Karaoke night, not my thing, but if you like to hear about dead dogs, trucks running off the road, and your girl running off with another man, this is the place to come!! Old school bar with working class folks hanging out and having a good time. The bartenders are polite and accommodating. I like the hanging out on the patio and having a drink on a weekend afternoon. The weather is always nice in the village so that helps as well. I occasionally come here on a Friday or Saturday night and watch people do karaoke, it's pretty entertaining. This place is a kick in the pants on Thursday nights. They do,karaoke from 7-10 with line dancing. Lots of fun and easy to make friends with the regulars. During to summer on every other Sat. BIll's is awesome! For all the reasons I've seen and for hosting the best open mic I've found in the central coast. I travel from north of San Luis for it, great plug and play system and awesome small but supportive community. And it happens every week (on Wednesdays). I moved to the Morro Bay area at the beginning of the year and Bill's place is the only bar I go to regularly. The first time I came on a weekend night (rather than Wednesday) I was blown away by the number of people, and so much happier with the vibe they brought than anywhere I'd been in San Luis. Bills is my absolute favorite bar! It's a dive bar feel, with amazing staff, a heated smoking area, and all different types of people. Sometimes I will go in there and its really chill relaxed people in their 40s and 50s, and sometimes it feels like a high school reunion with everyone in their 20s and 30s. The bartender was a friendly chap, but this place can be a fire trap. It doesn't matter how many people are there, they allow more through the front door. We were there on a Saturday night, and it was packed to the gills - and still more people kept coming in. There wasn't any crowd control; no one at the door saying, "Please form a line and wait until we get some more room inside." They just let people keep coming in. It wasn't as though they were getting more business from it, because it was impossible to even approach the bar. My wife and I, packed like sardines into a corner after getting there early, had to practically force our way out through the crowd. It's probably fine during the week, but until the owner becomes more responsible about how many people he/she allows through the front door, my rating will stand. Yes, at first glance this bar looks like you'll contract hepatitis from the bar stool, but don't let that throw you. It has super eclectic decor that throws back to the starting days of the village. The womens' bathroom stalls have handle bars to help steady you when you've had too much to drink...but honestly don't count on that. The times I have been to Bill's the bartenders practically had to be dragged away from a game of pool or flirting with other customers. If I wanted to sit around somewhere and enjoy the scenery I'd go to the beach. Other than a lack of diligence in bartending I'd say Bill's is worth the stop in. Common they have a lion! read more

Warning to non locals.this seems to be a tight knit local bar. Went for Friday night karaoke.sound was good but it all fell apart from there. You need to get on the list to sing.i didn't have a song in mind but wanted to get on the list.i asked the k.j. If I could just get my name on the list while I find a song. He said. No problem. I felt like I was bugging him.apparently you have to be a pretty girl to get his attention.i personally have a karaoke system with over 150,000 songs,his system appeared to be similar so I was confident he would have one of the 100 plus songs I can sing.knowing where I was on the list I realized I had been skipped.i told him I must have been skipped he said yes cause I didn't put a song on my list??ok he didn't mention that when he said go ahead just put your name there. So he says what song you want?i through out a number of songs,didn't have any of them..in this order. Ozzy mr.crowley,i don't know ,radio head creep,Beatles while my guitar gently weeps,rolling stones wild horses,Angie,black sabbath heaven and hell.matter of fact not one black sabbath..so I said pass.i picked up a song book and spent 20 minutes with it .couldnt find one of my top pics so I decided to concentrate on drinking..while I was dealing with mr hair styled and feathered ,my wife was finding that if you ask for corona light they say no and recommend a list of other Mexican beers. After our second beer another bartender opens the fridge in front of us and low and behold there is a rack of coronas staring right at us??time to go didn't want a third strike. A local also told us to be carefully the police park in the lot across the street..so anything more than two beers you need a taxi. read more

EVER!!!!! holy crap why dont they have bars this awesome in the bay area? i was down for my bachelorette party this weekend and wanted to karaoke, and we headed to bill's, not knowing what to expect. what we found was like a crazy packed dive bar with the most awesome, friendly locals you would ever hope to party with. we karaoke'd the night away and seriously felt like we were buddies with everyone in the bar by the end of the night. i would totally drive 3hrs just to come here. read more

We heard about this place as having karaoke from locals. The place in itself is nice but the KJ doesn't have very many songs to choose from as we go to a lot of Karaoke places. When we asked for a song the KJ was rude and acted as if he just wanted us to go away for asking for a long list of songs he didn't have. I didn't understand why he had to be rude and when we put our name on the list he skipped our name as 'the usuals' were called to sing over & over. The KJ said he sipped us because we didn't give him a song at that time but then why wouldn't he tell us that at that time?? As for the bar; we asked for Corona light and the bartender said the Mexican beers we have is pacifico and another so I took it as the didn't have corona but later in the evening another bartender opened a fridge that had a bunch of coronas. I wish I would have reviewed Bill's years ago. It used to be my favorite place to go but seems to have changed in the past several months. I do still like the bartenders (for the most part) but prices have gone up (more than what seems reasonable) and are different every time we go. We typically get rum and coke and it costs anywhere from $4 to $6...why no consistency? This does not encourage regulars (of many years) to continue going here. I attended a Halloween Costume Contest/Party last night and was quite frustrated with the entire experience (again, not like any I have had here before). First, I was not a participant in the contest so this is not about me not winning. There were some really great and unique costume. Most contests judge based on some criteria, right? Such things as creativity or scariness even sexiness but, in my opinion, it would have been great for contestants to know what the criteria was they were being judged on. Many folks were something scary (of course!) but a completely unoriginal cat won (black outfit and ears with some whiskers painted on). It was obvious that some people put a lot of effort and thought into their costume. There was a cute leopard that actually had a leopard dress on so was much more cat like, why wouldn't she have won? Some people were there to have fun AND engage in some competition but the contest seemed rigged and completely unfair. It used to be a welcoming and just plain awesome place. They seem to cater now more to the party, power drinker crowd (I suppose more money that way) but it is unfortunate because this was the only establishment in the area (that I know of) that had a laid back yet fun atmosphere. read more

At the outset let me say that Chris is a great bartender...hands down! But the person running kara'oke this evening (04/19) was rude and condensing. While I was singing a Billy Vera and the Beaters song, he kept an ongoing conversation with a curly headed/bespectatled dude that was distracting, to say the least. This is not the way a professional kara'oke opportunity should be handled. I nailed the song chosen to sing, but even if I sucked, I felt these two individuals were more interested in their conversartion/performance than in mine...or in the performance of others. They put their desires above the audience, not talking when a regular sang but talked when a "newbie" came into the bar-aka, me. I dropped $29.00 dollars for drinks and tips (two Jamessons, two MGD'S) because Chris is good. But I probably won't come into your establishment ever again, on my own dime! Well, we go in here every time we visit 5 cities area, and we like it just fine. Yeah, it's a local-yokel type place, but I've never had any issues with people giving hard looks or giving attitude, but then, we are middle-aged white people. The crowd is definitely 'monochromatic' to put it nicely. Everyone we've ever encountered has been friendly, especially the night time bartender- I think his name is Jason(? dude with the gauges in his ears), he even remembered us from last time we visited. We actually ventured inside during the day, in need of some hair o the dog, and the old guy working the bar was kinda weird. I ordered a Jameson neat (yeah- I was THAT hung over, alright?), my hubby a Jameson and Coke. This guy proceeds to pour straight Jameson over ice and like a tsp sized splash of Coke into a glass and hands it to hubby. Was he trying to be a prick or something? Was this some sort of a joke about the woman ordering a stronger drink? I don't get it. Needless to say, while I was fine with my drink (yeah, I was THAT HUNG OVER), hubby could barely stomach his. Kinda weird that the bartender would do that, but whatever. Prices here are awesome, they have some open-mike/karaoke type evenings, which I avoid like the plague, but that usually doesn't go on all night. They usually stay open pretty late, but last time- bartender kicked everyone out and closed up shop at 11. Apparently there was a bachelorette party that night, and I think dude had just HAD IT, which I can totally appreciate. There's a couple pool tables, and the tunes come through a jukebox, small outside area for smokers, and the smoke does waft a bit into the open door, but it's a bar- people- get over it! read more
