I broke the lens of my tail light recently. It's an old model so I understand that they have to order. Bur they gave me a ridiculous quote for $375. I couldn't believe my ears! I already looked up replacement parts online and it could NOT have been that expensive. A new set would cost $120, and I ended up ordering a used one for $60. If by their price, they must charge me $200 for labor. I know Burbank has many auto care shops. So if I'm desperate, I'd rather drive there than go to Simi. read more

Waited two days, then called them back to be told oh ya bring it in so we can see what you need. I asked why they couldn't call me back to tell me this he said we are busy. The place is nice, clean and Alex is very professional and courteous. Every single person in Simi Valley i've ever talked to recommends this place so I had to give it a try myself. That being said I wasn't entirely impressed at the end. I took my wife's 01 Jeep Cherokee there for a trouble code that said I need a new transmission solenoid. The Jeep has been running great, the trans isn't slipping but we needed to replace this part so I brought it to Bill's. They did an electronic evaluation, didn't touch a single bolt and told me everything checked out okay and sent me on my way for $78 (with my $10 AAA discount.) I asked Alex why they didn't replace the solenoid or change the fluid and filter and he told me everything was great no problems the fluids clean it doesn't need changing. The next day the check engine light came back on again for the same problem. Alex then called my wife that night and said he talked to his transmission guy and said we're going to need a new transmission and we better start saving up because it's $2800. I don't agree whatsoever. if they would've changed the fluid, filter and solenoid like I asked in the first place, we don't need a new transmission. I think they're trying to hustle us and for that I'm not thrilled. So I plan on doing the work myself and never going back there again. -addendum- I find it funny how all the reviews on the main page are five stars but if you go to the bottom where it says more reviews that aren't recommended. all one star and tell the truth about what really goes on around there that they're overpriced and looking to rip people off it seems. Our car had been in the shop 3 previous times before taking it to Bills for the same issue. It would intermittently start and the other shops couldn't figure it out. Bills figured it out and had it fixed in one day. For that, it was worth taking it there because we couldn't keep having our car not start. They are extremely nice, accommodating and professional. They are great at what they do. Excellent mechanics. However, I don't think we'd take it back unless an issue like that happens again (where no other shop can figure it out) because they are more on the expensive side. To fix the starter in our car, it cost us $511 (and that was only because we got the AAA discount of $50) And they had a diagnostic fee of $124 ( which they will work into the cost of the repair if they find one). I wasn't use to that at all because our normal auto shop has never charged us a diagnostic fee when they've checked our cars out. If money isn't too much of an issue, I would definitely take it here because they are a great shop and definitely do quality work. If money is an issue, I'd look around a little more. read more

This group is honest. Spoke to Alex who gave me the skinny on my Infiniti and took the time to show me problem belts afterward. They didn't charge too much and I was out in less time than expected. Can't beat the location in terms of having things to do while you wait. I saw a movie at a nearby theatre and the car was fixed by the time the movie was over. Bill's has always taken great care of me; their service is second to none. However, I took my truck to get the brakes serviced because from what I told them and they observed they believed there was air in the lines and they had to pressure bleed the system. They were very quick at doing so, taking about an hour, and when I took the initial drive they felt better, but not great by any means; the technician told me they would get better with use... So, I drove around A LOT being sure to use the brakes, even when unnecessary; the system actually seemed to get worse. As a matter of fact, when driving down a local grade, the brakes were so soft it felt as though I had almost lost them. I was disappointed they had assumed it was one thing; apparently it was something completely different, but after spending the $100+ to get it "fixed", I wasn't about to return for a second opinion. Watch out for these guys, they tell you one price but charge another. I was told it was one price and once they did the work and I picked it up they charged me $200 extra to diagnose my problem. I'm very upset because I asked them specifically how much it would be and they told us $400 and it turned out to be $600. They're response to me about the extra cost was your car is real technical so we charged you for diagnosis, my response was aren't all cars now days VERY technical he said yes but thats the way it is. Whenever I move to a new locale, I like to test out the local auto repair shops by taking in my vehicle for an oil change. It's a simple repair and it does more to check the quality of the staff than the service done (it's hard to screw up an oil change). I did this with Bill's Quality Auto several months ago and found myself pleased with the professionalism and the courtesy shown by the staff. Without any complaints I took my car back for a slightly more involved repair: replace the front brake pads and turn the rotors. Not only were they able to see me quickly, but they did the repair in a short amount of time (less than 4 hours). The professionalism was still there and I was pleased with the results of the second visit. I cannot complain about any part of the experience with this auto repair facility. Their prices are very reasonable, their staff courteous, the availability is excellent, and the shuttle service is a nice touch (especially in the rain which was pouring during my visit). I think I will continue to go here for all non-warranty repairs for the duration of my stay in Simi Valley. I highly recommend this shop. read more

Saved my butt! 328 miles from home, and I have a coolant leak. Bill's was the only place who took my car in and inspected it in the same day. Excellent availability. Everywhere else was booked up! The fact that they offered a loaner car sealed the deal for me! That being said, this was an all-around positive experience for me. My truck battery died and I was referred here by AAA; the mechanic who helped me, Alex, was positive, friendly, and efficient. The work got done in the time stated and for the price expected (the battery charge was free to me because of its AAA warrantee; I asked for a quick tire patch to a tire with a nail in it, as well). I was offered a ride home when I dropped the truck off, and was dealt with respectfully and honestly throughout. I've taken my car to Bill's on two occasions. First of all, the staff here are extremely professional, helpful and courteous. First rate all the way. The work is likewise excellent. Your car is in extremely good hands at Bill's. Even the neat, clean and well organized shop speaks of their hard work and diligence. Absolutely perfect... The only reason I ding them one star is because of their prices. Quality doesn't come cheap and that's certainly true at Bill's. Their repair estimates and rates have always been higher than their competitors. In some cases, substantially higher. That's unfortunate for those of us on a budget, but great for those who are blessed with enough income to spare no expense when maintaining their car. Went in to have the breaks turned. Prices were good and the rating was excellent so I gave it a try. The office area was clean and well maintained, they explained what they would do and gave an excellent price. During the service they called about wheel wear and would rotate the tires for me and to watch for wear to check the alignment (rather than just suggest an alignment as most companies would). I found them to be honest and timely in their work and will go back when needed. read more

They told me my brakes were bad, but I had them done about a year before, the guy told the place before must have used cheap pads. I didn't believe him. My brakes had about 13,000 miles on them at the time. Well it turns out they were right, the pads were cheap. I humbly apologize to Bill and his employees. When it comes to fixing your vehicle, Air conditioning especially and not just Transmission, Oil change, etc, It's always best to go to your designated auto dealer to get it fixed, regardless of how much more you will most likely pay, if not less. This is not the place to come if you want your air conditioning fixed for a car, they won't find a problem with it depending on its situation that is which really sucks because you pay a lot to have the problem fixed, but how can it be fixed when they can't find the solution to the problem in the first place since they may say it works fine on their end. They do work hard however, running diagnostics to try and fix the issue that's going on with your car, not to mention they give you a certain amount of day warranty I believe meaning that throughout that time if your car experiences the same issue, you can bring it back to Bill's shop and they'll try to fix it up for you at no extra charge which is good of him. Paloma is pretty new there, but regardless she's nice, gives good customer service, knows what she's doing, with some help from Bill here and there, as well as speaks Spanish fluently for those who can't speak, or barely speak English. Overall, I wasn't satisfied with the service here at all and I will never return nor recommend this place to anyone, but who knows, your car's situation may be different from mine with a problem that they can find and most likely solve. read more

For me trust is as important as experience when dealing with auto mechanics. I recently was forced to have my Nissan repaired at the dealership as it was a proprietary computer issue that an independent mechanic could not fix. Sure enough as I expected came a list of "issues" the dealership found wrong with my car. I called a few mechanics to get quotes on fixing the "major" issue and Bill's was the ONLY one who said bring the car in so we can verify the issue. I brought it in and sure enough while the issue did exist it wasn't out of the ordinary wear and tear and didn't need to be addressed anytime soon. I don't know where to begin, even while it pains me to have to share the two stories I am about to recount. To begin with, I have always respected Bill and his crew, especially Alex and Joe for their professionalism. Importantly, I understood that they were a premium shop, so paying premium prices when important work was required didn't bother me, until the following incidences occurred. Incident 1: Less than one year ago, I agreed to have Bill's mechanics install shocks and struts to the front end of an older van in the household. This past August, well within the one year warranty period, the driver's side strut collapsed while my daughter was driving home locally without injury thank God. Alex fixed the problem via warranty. About one month after that, the passenger side strut collapsed while my wife was travelling home on the 101 Freeway. Each time the affected tire inverted or angled inward to the center of the vehicle. Once again, thank God, nobody was hurt even travelling at the freeway speed. Alex also stood by the warranty to fix it again, except this time I was really concerned and couldn't fathom statistically how two different "new parts" on both sides of the same vehicle failed within one month of each other. It seemed statistically eery. Alex explained to me that he was also very surprised, but this time they were going to put the name brand Monroe parts on the vehicle instead of what I came to find out was O'Reilly's Chinese manufacturer on the other two defective parts. I seemed to be paying premium prices for sub standard parts, something I hadn't known until then. I am not a mechanic; therefore, I trust the professionals who are to do the right things when dealing with our vehicles. I made no large beefs about this other than inquiring for assistance from the manufacturer beyond just normal warranty coverage since I believed, Bill's Auto, and O'Reilly's Auto Parts had exposed my family to great loss, and it was only by luck that nobody was injured. Alex told me if he asked O'Reilly to do anything beyond the warranty coverage notwithstanding the severity of this ongoing problem with their parts manufacturer, they would tell him to tell me to "go pound sand." Notwithstanding having felt harmed for the inconveniences that didn't abate just one time, I accepted the work completion as Bill Auto's delivered it to my family. Incident 2: This past week, a temperature light kept appearing and reappearing on the same aforementioned van. The gage would go from hot to cold, and cold to hot. Considering what happened with Bill's earlier, I was hoping, well, expecting that if I brought the vehicle to them for investigation, they would be as fair as possible with me after what was already described in incident 1. Please mind us, that Alex, Joe, and Bill, who I know less personally over the years, seem like the nicest guys in the world, and over time, I have come to TRUST THEM! What occurred next is truly mind boggling to me, and this was the final trigger for what led me to this venue in order to express myself. Firstly, Bill charged me about $58 all in after a $5 coupon and less the free candy bar he offers his guests, in order to do a "diagnostic test" on the engine block. When Alex called me as a follow up, he stated unequivocally to my wife and me on the phone that he only had "bad news," even after asking for other "band aid" options versus his draconian recommendation--but really a demand because he said the car was junk without following their remedy--that the van "failed" the engine block test meaning somehow fumes(CO2) got into the block and the cylinders would be no good as a result, therefore, we needed to install a new engine at 7K. He also said the water pump had been leaking asking if I had seen fluid where the car is parked, which I had never seen then nor now. This leads me to the punchline after leaving Bill's knowing we would purchase a new car versus putting a new engine into that twelve year old Oldsmobile. Alex wished us well apologizing for the loss during the whole experience. I immediately brought the car to another reputable mechanic in town whom I had come to trust as well. This mechanic does not charge to assess damages. The bottomline is that, our vehicle passed his engine block test, was not leaking any fluids relating to the water pump, and only needed a new "thermostat" to continue its useful life. With all of this in mind, I have stopped payment for the diagnostic test on our credit card, and will only see Bill, Alex or Joe if I happen to see them shopping in town as I have before. And turned around and said I owe 89.95 to tell me that. Took my car somewhere else it was $550 LESS. That place is a rip off. They should be a shamed of themselves. read more

I generally agree with the good reviews of Bill's Auto service, however I took my five year old car there for a scheduled oil change and walked out of there with over $2,000 in recommended service based JUST on mileage. There was no other evidence of those procedures needing to be done. Is that standard procedure? Or is it because I'm female? Don't think I'll be returning. read more

I am extremely picky who I take my car to. Having a range rover is itself a high maintenance type of vehicle and not just any mechanic can handle the task. I spent some time researching auto bodies in the Ventura county area due to the warranty on my vehicle running out. I found Bill's Auto Care tucked away in Simi Valley. Office was clean and well maintained with acceptable bathrooms. Staff was very kind and hospitable, offering me a ride if I needed, a beverage or snack which I thought was very thoughtful. They gave me an estimate in a reasonable amount of time and I gave them the go ahead to work on my vehicle. Upon receiving it I saw it had been washed and looked to be in great shape. I had a full tune up including brakes and they did a full inspection to make sure I didn't need anything else. Prices were incredibly reasonable too! Another time I went in for my alignment on short notice because something was off about my car, they took me in immediately without a wait because I had been a returning customer and they made sure I left satisfied. All in all I would suggest this place to anyone. They are efficient, offer friendly service, and are very communicative with what needs to be done. You can tell they hold each and every customer as a top priority and I have great respect for them because of it. read more

I've known these guys for years. I actually used to work for a software company that dealt primarily with Auto Repair shops all over North America. I've met some of the best shop owners in the US and what they have in common is they have integrity and are passionate about what they do. This industry can get a bad rep for sure but 90%+ of these guys are honest hardworking people like you and me. Some people think that when a shop makes a recommendation they're simply trying to get more money from you. That couldn't be further from the truth. They inspect your car and tell you what needs to be fixed and what will need to be fixed in the near future. They will tell you what "could" happen if you choose to not fix it now. It's not a scare tactic it's just the truth. None of us like shelling out money to maintain our vehicles but it's necessary unless we want to spend more later when something bad happens. I recently had them fix a suspension problem my 2012 Audi Q5 was having. It came out of nowhere and I was not happy I had to pay to get it fixed. They also recommended I get my rear brakes done soon. I told them let's wait on the brakes until next month because I didn't have the money to do it all now. Yesterday I came back and had them do the brakes. They did it for a great price and they got it done fast. They also have a free shuttle that took me to work in Thousand Oaks both times. Very convenient. The shop is very clean and the folks at the front are very nice people. Joe and Bill are awesome! If you want someone to do the job right, for a good price & be honest with you about your vehicle then this is the place to go. read more

My starter was going out on my GTO and I ordered the part online thinking I could do the swap myself. After reading multiple forums I found that it was a pretty difficult task in fact without a lift or rack it's extremely difficult. So instead of wasting my Saturday in my hot garage I figured I'd leave it to someone that had a rack. I actually called around to a few different shops and I was shocked that they would not install a customer bought part. I spoke with Alex and explained the situation and he quoted me a fair price ($189 to be exact) I dropped it off on Saturday morning and it was ready 3 hours later. After charging me $80 to evacuate and check my a/c for leaks, they told me i needed a whole new system for $1600! Went over to Frigiking, they evacuated and checked for leaks, NO charge! Frigiking then installed my compressor(the only bad component they found), filled the system and i have great a/c for less than half what Bill's quoted me!!! read more

They are honest, thorough, professional and extremely clear about the what needs to be done and the subsequent costs. They are not shifty and would never hard-sell any service that isn't necessary. We needed a new auto service and repair shop as our old one became most unsatisfactory (see review) and based on their generally glowing reviews decided to give Bill's a try. I've now taken three different cars to them, two for major work and one for a regular service and check and must say that they have been exceptional. The shop is unusually clean and the mechanics and service advisers absolutely know their stuff. The shop is AAA approved at their Premier level, and everyone seems to be genuinely caring and supportive. While their rates aren't particularly low, they will try to save you money and the quality of their workmanship is superior to any dealership's, including Porsche and Mercedes Benz, that I've experienced ( and I'm sorry to say that I've seen a lot over the years!) I can't believe that I haven't written a review for Bill's Quality Auto Care before today. I have been a customer of theirs for 8+ years. This is the only place that I will let work on my vehicles after the factory warranty has expired! The Service Advisors are outstanding! They are knowledgable, processional, polite, and patient. The Service Techs are the best in not only Simi Valley, but I would go so far to say, the best in the Conejo Valley and surrounding areas. They have treated all of my vehicles as it it were their own. They're fast, comprehensive, and honest. If you don't need the repair, they aren't going to lie and say you do. Honest, honest, honest! I have read some reviews that have mentioned price, well quality work costs money. Sure you can get your brakes done cheaper at 'Plain Wrap Brake Place', But to get quality parts and have it done by an experienced, certified Master Mechanic is going to cost money. When you're talking about a several thousand pound projectile (my car) driving down the road, I think my life is worth a few extra dollars to have it done by the pros. I have several friends that will travel from the Santa Clarita area to get their cars repaired here. That says a lot. Oh, and they are a AAA approved facility!!! This place is living proof that it's usually cheaper to properly maintain an older car instead of buying a new one. They have never caused me any grief. While they are not "dirt cheap" I believe that their labor rates are probably less than going to a dealership. They usually can order and receive parts very quickly if they don't already have them in stock, which is a time saver. They are great about reminding me when it is time for routine service. Here's the real proof... My car is 15+ years old with well over 100K and I feel comfortable and safe driving it and have never had any on the road break downs. They are watching out for me.
