A small, unassuming car shop hidden in the back of an Auto Plaza in Simi Valley. But don't let appearances fool you! I brought my car for the first time after moving to Simi Valley, because it's closer to me than my usual car shop in TO. I was a little hesitant at first, because I could not find much information about the shop. There's no website (to my knowledge) and I could not even find it on Google maps. There was a little bit of a language barrier when I booked my maintenance appointment over the phone, but it was not a big deal. I brought my car in for an oil change and a brake inspection and was given a call a few hours later to pick up my car. Price was fair for the area! Great value and super convenient location. Went in without an appointment for a transmission fluid flush for my 2015 Toyota Tundra. They talked to me about it and helped me the second I walked up. They worked on it immediately and it was ready an hour later. The price was also incredibly reasonable which was so refreshing since most mechanics can charge so much. 10/10 would recommend this place to anybody, and especially those with a Japanese car. You probably can't find a more honest place to take your Japanese car. On numerous times, I've brought in my Camry because of some warning lights. They quickly ran a test to determine nothing was wrong and reset the lights and did not charge me. On my last visit, one of my headlights went out. I purchased two new headlamps from a local auto store, and brought them in to be installed. Took him about 20 minutes to replace the headlamp bulbs. He told me it was such an easy job he wouldn't charge me for it even though I offered a few times. I'm definitely bringing my car back here for service. read more

The previous guy saying he was ripped off, go take your vehicle to the dealership where many unfortunate people take their vehicles to get fixed and maintained. I've been going to this place for decades. Viwat has always been great to me & mom. He doesn't BS with you. He works as fast as possible to get your vehicle fixed. Dealerships have a habit of keeping your vehicle for a couple of days before returning it. They jack up the prices all the time. They rip you off when you see the bill. Dealerships always say take your vehicle to them to get genuine parts. But what's the point of going to them when they make you spend hundreds to thousands of dollars in repairs when you could take it to a place where they do the same work for less? Many dealerships hire third party repair people to fix the vehicle. You may meet a guy who works at a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan dealership only to meet him again at an independent car repair center. This place offers great prices compared to the dealerships. I've had only one minor problem with my Honda car, which I've owned for ten years. He fixed it on the same day at an affordable price. I can't complain. Viwat is honest and reliable. He doesn't force you to do anything. You can leave and go elsewhere, or get your vehicle fixed at a place that you'll want to return again and again. They did however change the transmission oil on a different vehicle of mine and I was shocked at how inexpensive they were when compared to the dealer. My 2000 Toyota Tacoma was leaking oil out of the valve cover gasket. I brought my truck here, explained the problem, the mechanic (Jay) walked into the office to get me a price, within 5 minutes he came back out and gave me a very fair price. When he started working on my truck he also asked if I wanted him to do the spark plugs since he was already going to be down in the engine, he said I will check them and only do them if they are needed (which they were), he also asked if I wanted him to check transmission oil and if it needs to be replaced he could do that. He checked the oil for the transmission and it was good. This place is very honest, they aren't just lying telling you things need to be replaced when they don't need to be. Very honest shop, I really recommend taking your Japanese cars here, very fair priced as well. read more

I have a tricky electrical problem that could've been several possibilities that were all ruled out after Japanese Car Repair looked at the car. While he wasn't able to fix it at the time, he tried to charge me nothing for the trouble he went through. How many mechanics spend 4 hours trying to determine the issue and don't charge you anything for it. The Toyota dealership nearby told my Mom that she needed her light flasher replaced for $297, her running light bulb replaced for $64 and her spark plugs replaced for $628. Japanese Car Repair repaired both light issues for a total of $133. Japanese Car Repairs double checked the spark plugs and the spark plugs did not need replacing. Toyota quoted over $3000 of "necessary repairs" after I explained that she is an older woman on a small fixed income. The employees at Japanese Car Repair were kind and courteous. read more

Having been in the Automotive field and wrenching on a number of personal rides I know a thing or two about mechanics and can find my way around cars. The owner is very nice and will be very up front about costs and whether or not a certain repair is worth the investment. There have been more than a few occasions where he told me to hold off. To help on costs I've even ordered parts online and have had him conduct the installation. Not all shops are willing to do this and the ones that are may not have the best reputations for quality workmanship.
