I stopped in yesterday to grab a BEC on my way to work and it was great! They are cash only but the prices are very good. Every time I have stopped in the staff has been very nice and the amount of bacon on the BEC is great. Stopped by this cute little place on our way to Maine after staying at a local hotel overnight. As I perused the internet for a local place to have breakfast the night before, this place was one of the few to have a functioning page to check out the menu. We were not disappointed-the workers were super nice and the food was delicious! I ordered the steak sandwich which I had ordered the time before. The sandwich I was given I wouldn't even feed to a dog on the street. It was by far the MOST unappetizing steak I had ever seen slapped crookedly onto a microwaved piece of cheese. Down a level from prison food. Well I have to say I'm a breakfast sandwich junkie. I've had pretty much every kind and place out there. My boss took me to Billy D's and when I tell you I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the doubler. Instead of double of one meat I asked for sausage and bacon with double egg and double cheese. The sandwich was fantastic. Now when it came time to pay I couldn't believe that all they charged was $5.00. Normally at any other place the sandwich I ordered would have been $8.00-$10.00 easy. Job well done over there. Ordered on the phone prior, was advised 10 minute wait. Show up at 10 minute window and they are making orders for the people ordering on the spot priority over my phone order from 15 minutes ago (which should have been ready five minutes prior). It is clear that the people who are regulars get precedent (maybe that's why there were 6 people waiting in line and not calling in). A regular who was small-talking while placing his order had cut in front of me in line. I was in the takeout line, and he legit just placed his order. He got his order instantly, and it took 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches for me. Not coming back here again. Post breakfast update. The hashbrowns were completely soggy and not edible. Wanted a burger for lunch. I have come here for a breakfast sandwich before and it was ok. So I ordered a cheese burger. The patty was so thin you could see through it. The girl that cooked it was smashing it down into the flat top like it owed her money. She made sure that the burger would be as dry as cardboard. Cardboard would be a upgrade to this burger. Uh oh, looks like I'm the first reviewer that won't be giving this place a gushing 5-star review. The good news is this isn't a negative review in the least, just an honest one to provide a little more perspective. After reading all the rave reviews, I figured that I had to stop by and try one of their breakfast sandwiches. As mentioned in other reviews, Billy D's is a small breakfast/lunch shack that doesn't look like much from the outside. The inside is very dimly lit which gives the whole place kind of a dingy feel, though it did seem to be kept relatively clean. The staff was pleasant, and it was obvious that they are extra-friendly to their regulars. I ordered a ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. I declined the optional hot sauce, salt & pepper or ketchup. It was made quickly, and was very inexpensive. Overall, it was... a slice of ham, an egg and a slice of cheese on a hard roll. It was exactly what was ordered, but nothing that you can't find at any other "greasy spoon", or even make at home. While the sandwich was good, it certainly wasn't anything to rave over as the other reviews would have me believe. I think the big selling point here is that the staff is friendly, the food is solid and prepared quickly, and it's a great value. All of which are great attributes for any business. Would I go back? Sure, no reason not to. Would I tell other to go there? Sure, why not? Would I drive out of my way to come here? Eh, probably not. So, Billy D's gets the old A-OK Yelp rating of 3 stars in my book.
