My friend recommended this place to me when I was visiting Portland and she said this spot is a must try! Not only does she love their jiangbings but also their soy milk. Out of all the carts in this food garden, this place might be easy to pass up but don't because they have some of the best breakfast/ lunch items! (I kinda wish this spot would open up earlier cause it feels like such a breakfast food) So fresh, so tasty! Their mushroom has so much flavor and so did the bing sauce. The lettuce balanced out the oil by adding freshness and with the super thin crepe and the crunchy wafer, the textures were on point.
Haven't had a jian bing in a minute but it is a treat that I enjoy. Came to this beer garden surrounded by food trucks in downtown Portland and this was one of the top rated ones. They specialize in jian bings which you can select a protein to go inside. Made and folded with egg, cucumbers, scallions, and a crispy fried dough, like a wonton. Generously loaded and smelled fantastic. Opted for two ducks and two chickens. I really liked the balance of flavor of each jian bing. The ingredients worked well in harmony and the crepe itself held up really well. I'm not sure if it was added to it, but I do wish there was hoisin sauce, just to round out the flavor a bit more. I did actually get some separately from elsewhere to pour on. Still delicious though and staff working the food trucks were incredibly friendly. Plan about 10-ish min of waiting depending on how busy it is.
Friendly service, food comes out super quick and it's huge. I got the original loaded and it was good, I got extra spicy and it was not that spicy. At the end of the day, it's just crepe, lettuce, eggs, deep fried wrapper and sauce. But texturally it was good because it was complex with the crunch and softness, could have used more veggies.
A new video came out about one month prior to this review, where food trucks from 4 cities (New York, Austin, Portland, Los Angeles) were compared, with 5 food trucks per city. Bing Mi was one of the featured trucks in Portland, and seeing it on the video was enough to entice me to visit for lunch. Everything about the food there is exactly as good as is presented. The texture and crunch of the made-to-order crepes were unique and a new experience for me. And it's nice that it's one big crepe cut in 2 pieces, so it's a great way to swap half of something else with a friend and get twice the flavor.
While in Portland last month I happened to stop by a Food Truck spot and found Bing Mi out of the bunch. I've seen a lot of videos about Bing's and figured that it was the perfect opportunity to give them a shot. The truck itself is small and was ran by 2 people - my order was taken and I was able to sit at a table by the brewery nearby while waiting. I got the duck special Bing which came out in 10-15 minutes. The bing itself was delightful - the crepe was crispy and light and acted as a perfect vessel for the fillings. The duck was cooked perfectly and everything in the inside of the bing was fresh and nice. The only thing I wish I had was some additional sauce on the side. For it being my first experience having a bing I was pleasantly surprised - would definitely recommend this spot for anyone interested in giving jiangbings a try.
To be honest, it isn't bad. In fact it is very good. But of all the bings I had from Brothers Bing (closed) to ones in Asia this is very typical. The duck special is good but the duck filling is sparse so you mostly get just the wonton crunch, sauce, and cucumbers. It is unique in this food pod and worth a try if you never had one nor will have from somewhere else. But for me who had it in multiples places including China as Taiwan, it it's mid. Might be much more for you.
Wow, how lame. My roasted duck jianbing came with literally 1 small, thin slice of duck. And they dare to call it "loaded". Such a shame, cause it ruined what would otherwise be a delicious, uncommon Chinese crepe that has a delicious combination of flavors, hoisin, thin egg omelette, cilantro and crispy wonton if it was properly filled w/ meat. But 1 slice?? And "slice" is being generous (see photo). I can't let that slide sorry. Master Kong is better.
Our friend introduced us to Bing Mi and we fell IN LOVE!!! I would have never known about this place if it wasn't for her, so BIG SHOUT-OUT TO AMANDA! This food cart is one of the eight carts permanently situated in the Slabtown Food Carts block. It's a small area, so it can get crowded depending on the day/time. There are shaded/covered tables within the food cart area and right outside, adjacent to the street, but again, this spot is quite popular, so you may need to wait a bit for an open table. My go-to is the FRIED TOFU LOADED JIANBING and my husband's new favorite is the CHINESE SAUSAGE LOADED JIANBING with SPAM. His combination isn't on the menu, BTW. There is an additional charge to add spam. But whatever you decide to get, you have to make sure you order from the LOADED JIANBINGS menu. LOADED includes an extra egg, cracker, and fresh veggies. This combination provides the perfect texture for this savory Chinese crepe: soft & crispy and fresh & fried. You also have a choice of the spice level. Personally, the difference between mild and medium is daunting. To me, mild has a spicy level of 0 and medium has a spicy level of 7. LOL, big jump, I know, but that's just me. Each bite is full of flavor and I promise you, you won't be disappointed!

Wow was this delicious. Read about it before coming to Portland and it's not something you can find easily so I wanted to check it out. Located in this food truck lot in a suburb-y neighborhood (oh Portland ), this truck is located at the end of all the trucks. Options are simple, you get this crepe that has egg, wonton crackers, and sauce in a crepe and you just have to decide what you want in it. The person who rang me up told me the roasted duck and chinese sausage are their most popular. I love me some Chinese sausage so I ordered their loaded size to get the cucumber and extra egg. You also choose a spicy level. They described their medium as a sriracha level and spicy as a little spicier than that. I went with the spicy and glad I did because you really don't taste a ton of heat but just enough to add another dimension to this delicious food. The crepe is fluffy and crispy and all around deliciousness. I thought it might feel heavy but there's an airiness to it all and they don't overdo it with the sauce or stuffing so as big as it looks, I didn't feel like I was going to have a food coma afterwards. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I would ever choose the "un-loaded" version since I felt there was just enough of everything). I also got the cucumber salad which had a nice light sesame flavor and the sunflower seeds added to the nuttiness of the dressing. I did think the lettuce underneath was wholly unnecessary and if I was nitpicking I would do away with it. All in all I haven't been wowed by a place in awhile but this place did it. When visiting Portland, we love to stop by food pods for a quick lunch. We went here on Labor Day around 11am when they opened and there was already a long line for this truck! It took about 15-20 minutes for our food to come out. As we were waiting, more and more people kept coming to the Bing Mi truck and we could tell it was quite popular. Get here early to avoid a line! We got two jian bings (roasted duck and pork belly), tea eggs, and a soy milk. I'd pass on the tea eggs as they barely had any tea flavor. Both jian bings were delicious! It's essentially a crepe wrapping a savory filling consisting of eggs, wonton strips, bing sauce, veggies, and a meat. We preferred the duck crepe as it came with cucumbers and that helped balance the salty sauce. Would definitely come here again when we come back to Portland! read more
I've been longing to check out this place since I moved to the west coast. Almost all my Chinese friends in Seattle have heard of this place. Glad I finally got to check it off my list! We ordered three classic Jianbing, two with tofu and one with roast duck. All were carefully wrapped in aluminum foil and packed in paper bags. Back in China, I've only had Jianbing with Chinese doughnut (you tiao) in it. Here they make Jianbing with crisps, which are regarded as the "more authentic" version. One bite and I was in tears - too delicious!!! The bean sauce, the roast duck slices, the crisps, the scrambled egg, the tender chewy wrap, everything mixed into the perfect heaven. Now I understand why my friends think this jianbing is the biggest highlight of their trip to Portland. read more
The soft crepe with the crunchy wonton cracker and aromatics/sauce is to die for! I got a spicy fried tofu jiangbing and all of the flavors were phenomenal together. Absolutely delicious and authentic popular street food. We got a refreshing passionfruit iced tea as well. read more
The food truck is located in the Nob Hill food pod. They are all the way in the back. I selected them because of the amount of people that were waiting there which is definitely an indication that the food is good. I don't even know how to describe how yummy it is. I've never had this before and everywhere that I go when I travel I'm going to try to find somewhere that prepares this dish. I got the basic and I wish I would've gotten one with pork. The sauce is amazing the crispy wontons on the inside just give it a whole new level of texture and crunch. It's just an amazing culinary experience. They look huge but they were so light and fluffy that you could probably eat more than one. I wish I would have gotten 2. read more

Pretty solid jian bing but we ordered 3 meat options and there was little to no meat in all of them. (Bbq pork and duck) which was pretty disappointing. My friends did say outside of China this was the best jian bing they've had in the US and my friend from out of state yelled at me to try this place bc it's their favorite jian bing place. So I'd recommend trying it for sure. I am hoping that this was just orders toward the end of the day and they were forced to use what meat they had leftover. read more

Not sure why I haven't written a review for here yet. When I'm craving for something I can eat on the go, the jianbing (煎饼) from Bing Mi is the way to go. It really encompasses a lot of my favorite childhood flavors into one delicious bite. Usually, I order the classic jian bing and it's definitely enough and filling for me. This time I wanted to try something else, if you are hungry definitely recommend the loaded jianbings. I ordered their special, the Taylor ($16). It's a classic jianbing , duck loaded with bacon. The jian bing comes with bing sauce, cilantro, egg, green onion, preserved vegetables (榨菜), and crispy wonton crackers, then with the additional toppings I listed before. The duck is good, but personally I think the bacon isn't necessary. But if you're a bacon lover, this is for you. My favorite part of the jianbing is their bing sauce which I got as medium spicy. It brings the flavors together of all the components of the jianbing. Do note, there is usually a line and a wait, but you can call ahead for your order. I normally wait. There is street parking available, sometimes it's a bit more difficult to find a spot, but it is findable. read more
I love Bing Mi. I've eaten there before. But I haven't reviewed them before. So consider this an "updated review" that continues the five star rating! I don't quite know why these are so good, but they are. The umami of the sauce, the crunch of the interior, the texture of the exterior. The ability to grab and go. When I was asked what spice level I want, I replied, "ummmm, medium?" and somehow it was perfect. This cart is tucked away at the back of the food cart pod on NW 23rd. Don't miss it! read more
First stop in Portland was to grab lunch at Bing Mi, which is part of the Nob Hill food carts. We came on Sunday around 12:30, and street parking wasn't terrible 2-3 blocks away. I didn't count, but there were quite a few food trucks (7-8?) all packed up together in the pod, with very limited seating inside and covered umbrella seating outside. There's also a tiny bathroom which requires a key from any of the vendors. As they have a sign explaining, a jianbing is a savory crepe which comes with a couple base ingredients: sauce (your choice of spice level), scrambled egg, green onion, cilantro, preserved vegetables, wonton crackers. You can also add proteins such as roast duck or spam or tofu as a filling. Jianbing are great for sharing, as they cut it in half before wrapping in wrapping and handing to you. My friend and I split the roast duck loaded jianbing ($14). This is a popular spot. There weren't too many people lined up to order, but plenty of people were standing around waiting for their orders. After ordering, it was close to a 30 minute wait to get our food. The jianbing itself was pretty good. The crisp of the wonton crackers provided a good contrast to the rest of the filling which was soft and chewy. My only wish was for there to be more duck in the jianbing, especially if I'm paying $14 for it. I wanted a piece of duck in every bite, but I didn't get that. The roast duck also wasn't as fragrant as some of the other duck I've had in the past. read more

This was my second time trying the jiangbing here and it was so good! Unfortunately I only have a picture from when I went last time (which is when they did the 5spice beef special). Regardless this was a super fun breakfast/lunch item. The fried wonton skin provides a nice crunch. This along with the egg and other fillings provides a great texture. Their bing sauce is also very flavorful and overall they had amazing service. The only complaint I have is that it does feel a little greasy halfway through, so maybe share or grab a drink! read more

The Jian Bing is tasty. But the wait is 45 minutes. Not sure it is worth the wait. The hot soy milk is delicious though, definitely order that one again. The staff and the chef are nice. It's hard to find a parking space, so we had to park at the nearby grocery store. We bought something trivia to make up that we had to use their parking lot. Overall not worth the hassle to find a parking spot, then wait at least 45 minutes to get a Chinese version of fast food. Maybe not go on weekends? Weekday hopefully the wait time is less. After all it is Chinese street food. It is supposed to be quick and cheap. read more
I got the loaded duck one. The price you pay is worth it. It was one of those meals that was filling but doesn't make you feel super full and food coma-y. We also got the smoked sausage, double egg, and tofu. Personally I would go for a loaded one over the classics. read more

A menu full of Jian Bing!? Don't mind if I do. We stopped by on a weekend and let me tell you be sure to come early because this place got busy when we stopped by and could be 30+ min for a wait (we just beat the rush). If that tells you anything it shows how they are a favorite. The classic runs you starting at $7 which is super affordable for a tasty meal. For loaded bings they are $10+ and you can add any extras to them and they are oh so delicious. Like where can you get something for less than $10 these days!? We ordered the loaded bbq pork and chinese sausage to go and both were delicious. The crepe was light and fluffy and the bean sauce is A-1!! Great textures with the crackers and mustard tuber. Honestly what a great meal for the price! Filling but light enough where you don't fall into a food coma after eating a whole one (or two). A fellow yelper recommended the duck so I will need to get that option next time I visit since I will for sure be back. read more
It's tough to quench a jianbing craving. I'm glad I was able to locate this food truck. The jianbing was filling and delicious. It was crunchy and soft at the same time and had plenty of filling. Finding parking was a bit tough on the street and there wasn't many seats to sit so I had to stand while eating. The location has plenty of other food trucks which I will come back to try. read more

UMMMMM HELLO GORGEOUS!!! This spot is fantastic. It's amazing the kind of culinary creations some artist can put together in such small spaces. This food truck is a definitely do not miss!! Jianbings: A Chinese savory crepe with egg, bing sauce, green onion, cilantro, zhacai and wonton crackers wrapped inside. I got one with mushrooms, no meat and the taste was out of this world! Not exaggerating Imagine the soft crepe texture, with crunchy crackers and then all the mixings delicately folded up in a hand size treat. That's this ... absolutely must try while in PDX. Nice people too, great service with warm outdoor seating. Love you , I will be back! read more

We were excited to try Bing Mi after reading the reviews and seeing the popularity of their food. We ordered the Roasted Duck Loaded Jianbing and are giving it two stars, primarily for the generous portion size. However, the first bite usually sets the tone for the meal, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. The first bite was all crepe, the second bite was mostly wonton crunch, the third bite was dominated by cucumbers and some sauce, and it wasn't until the fourth bite that we finally found some duck. The duck itself was dry and tasteless, and for the price we paid, we expected more meat. It felt like eating a cucumber crepe rather than a duck jianbing. To the owner, we suggest adding more duck in the future to ensure customers feel they are getting their money's worth. read more
Bing Mi Food Cart is such a hidden gem in Portland! I got a roasted duck jianbing and it is so good and delicious! It reminds me of peking duck but there is a little twist with wonton crackers inside. The food here is quick, affordable, portion is great, and it is just DELICIOUS! read more

Small place but have really good food. Staffs are friendly and nice. You do need to order at the counter. So, get a menu, pick a table, then head to the counter to order. They will deliver your food to the table but you do need to take the plates to collection area before you leave. While I understand it is to help reduce the staffing needs, but it made the dining experience a bit messy. I ordered the supreme bing, which is really good and enough portion for an adult. Overall speaking, I would recommend this place to friends. read more

This northern Chinese street food has made it all the way to Portland and I could not be more excited! Their jianbings are amazing! It's a wrap/crepe filled with egg, chili bean paste, green onion, cilantro, zhacai (pickled mustard stem) and a crispy wonton cracker! I had mine with roasted duck and it did not disappoint one bit! All the flavors and textures came together PERFECTLY in this savory and sweet street food snack. If you're super hungry, I would recommend getting two or adding extra fillings to it! It's perfect for an on the go meal too, and they're super fast to make. The owner Jacky is super nice as well, which made my experience that much better! read more
Jianbing, where have you been my entire life? OMFG, this is one of the best things I've ever eaten! I'd never heard of a Jianbing and now that our paths have crossed, I can't stop thinking about one! From the first bite, this traditional Chineses street food was a taste & textural sensation. A soft crepe filled with savory fillings - scrambled eggs, scallions, cilantro, spicy sauce and crunchy fried wontons all folded up, served piping hot and wrapped so you can eat it with your hands. While my intent was to take it home to eat, the scent was so intoxicating I took a bite the minute I got into my car and couldn't stop. That Jainbing didn't have a chance of making it home! In fact, it was soooo darn good that with every bite, I thought of getting another. Seriously, it's that good! You have ruined me for life! There is absolutely no possible way I can ever visit the Nob Hill Food Carts or be anywhere in this area without stopping to buy one. For my first I went with the classic, my philosophy is to try the classic before adding extras. It truly has every thing needed to make it stellar. That being said, next time I will add the Chinese Sausage for additional savory protein. Typically I am at this food pod because Tehuana Oaxacan is there and they have the best street tacos anywhere in Portland. Bold statement but true. Now when I visit, I will get my chipotle pork tacos or burrito to go, and a Jianbing or two to eat there. Go and experience a Jianbing, but be warned, they are addictive. Overpriced and overrated, although there was no problem with the taste. The Jian Bing was popular in northern China, because of a low price and variety of choices. Here in the US, selling from a roadside cart/truck somehow made it highend-like food :( read more

This was the best thing I've ever eaten in all of Portland (disclaimer: I'm a visitor, not a local)!! We ordered the roasted duck and bbq pork loaded jianbing. I absolutely loved the wonton crisps sandwiched inside! From the first bite to the last, there was a nice, satisfying crunch. There was so much flavor, it made me forget about the disappointing jianbing I had back in my local area. I also loved that there was so much shaded seating around all the food trucks in the area as August seems to be a very hot month in Portland! The only thing I didn't like here was the iced tea that I ordered - it tasted incredibly diluted and was not worth the $4 that I paid. read more

I finally get to check jianbing off my list of things I need to try! I came here for a weekday lunch and thankfully there was no line because some reviews mentioned having a long wait. -- CLASSIC BBQ PORK JIANBING The jianbing here is a flavor bomb - absolutely delicious! The combination of the sweet and spicy bean sauce, preserved veggies, green onion and cilantro was so savory and addicting. I requested mine spicy and I found it to be mild. Minus 1 star because I feel like they are a bit skimpy with the meat and need to find a better way to distribute it. Each side of the jianbing had 2-3 pieces of BBQ pork, so all my initial and last bites didn't have any meat in it - only ~1/3 of the crepe had bites of meat. Also while the wonton cracker gave a nice crunchy texture, the crepe itself needed to be crisped up more because it was kinda sad how soft and limp it was even though I ate it immediately. read more

I have eaten here before but never got down to writing a review . We were walking along the neighborhood and decided to grab a quick bite . It was the only cart in the whole pod that had a line , which is always a great sign . There was just one person working , who was taking the order ,making the food and doing the billing as well hence the wait time was a little long . Got the Vietnamese sausage Bing with extra Bacon . The egg crepe is tender yet crispy at the same time and the flavors were pretty good . I did not like the bacon a single bit as it just ruined the flavor of an otherwise great crepe .I cant put a flinger on it but the combo of bing sauce, green onion, cilantro, zhacai and wonton crackers just turns out pretty amazing every time . read more
Bing Mi has moved to Nob Hill! Still the same great crepe wrap. I tried the original and the one with extras. Crisp savory delicious but somehow light as well. It comes in two halves so you can consume it as a meal or as a snack. The location is bit further than it used to be and there isn't much parking for cars. I rode a bike this time. There are tables all over the food truck area including one directly adjacent to Bing Mi's food truck. read more
