My go-to for Pho. Easily the best Pho I have consumed. I'm aware of their first location in Bloomfield but Bloomfield just doesn't compare. For starters, this place has a cleaner look and is spacious. The Pho at the Hillside location seemed have a more flavorful broth and they were very generous with their serving of beef slices. Although it was late and they were about to close within the hour, the Pho was hot and didn't have an ounce of tasting as if it had just been reheated. Yay! I was here on the fourth day after their grand opening--returned multiple times since then--and was kindly greeted by Sammy and everyone else. Saigon Grill was good, but I was looking for a little more. This is the second branch of Binh Duong (first branch is in Bloomfield). Goi Cuon/"Summer Rolls" ($4.95): They're nicely made every time. Each order comes with two rolls stuffed with plenty of noodles, vegetables, and pork; it comes with a small bowl of peanut sauce. It's easy to eat; the wrapper is not chewy at all. If you're sharing, you might want to ask for the rolls to be sliced in half. Pho Xe Lua ($8.95): This is the XL-sized (largest) bowl of pho. There are plenty of rice noodles, an assortment of tender meat (including tripe), and broth in a huge white bowl. Like other noodle soups I've ordered, it's served piping hot. The bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos, and lemon are served on the side. Bun Bo Hue ($8.95): It's certainly an upgrade over the Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Hue-style beef and pork noodle soup) during the Saigon Grill days. It's much more flavorful and was a bigger portion--XL is the only size. The fish sauce taste was pretty strong but not overpowering, while the flank and gio heo were really tender! As was the case before, it doesn't come with tripe or blood cakes but it was still good. Mi Thap Cam ($8.50): As common as Hu Tieu is, I haven't tried any variation of it until now. This is a noodle soup with a variety of seafood and slices of pork in a chicken broth with egg noodles. The broth was savory; slightly salty, but not unbearable. The egg noodles were cooked perfectly. I would have liked it if I received more pork, but there was plenty of seafood to compensate. Banh Mi Dac Biet ($6): YES! I don't need to drive all the way to Edison anymore! When I ordered banh mi, Sammy said it wasn't on the menu but he would make three of them special for me. The sandwiches were huge and the baguette had the tough-chewiness that I always look for. There was plenty of pate and a pretty good amount of meat. It may seem pricey, but the sandwich is pretty big and tastes great; plus, only a few Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in NJ serve Banh Mi Dac Biet. It's now on the "special menu" hanging on the wall. My only gripe is that I found the food to be a bit pricey. Still, I always enjoy the food here. I'll be coming back often. read more

For me this place is a hit or miss the food is always good but in various occasions I have ordered over an hour in advance and when I arrive my food is not ready for pickup which sucks when you have to go back to work. I understand their family run and sometimes there's only one person there during the day which is the hostess, waiter, cook and the person who takes the order so I understand. But the food is really good so if you have time I would recommend for you to stop by. It's good, but the original Binh Duong is better. I was seriously craving pho on Tuesday, when Binh Duong (I) is closed. So I decided to make that 20-30 min drive out to try the Hillside location. Décor-wise, II does look cleaner and more professional. The service was ok. Even though we were the only people in the restaurant the two staff were more interested in watching the football game on the screen and checking their phones than attending to the needs of their customers. There is an older gentleman who was more attentive and asked how our food was, but we were not impressed with the lack of care the younger staff showed in their work. The pho itself is slightly sweeter than the original Binh Duong and not as flavorful. The well-done meat in the pho was too tough, but their tendon was spot-on and actually better than Binh Duong I. From the walls, it looks like they have some reasonably-priced dinner packages for larger parties, which I wouldn't mind trying in the future. So, overall, not a bad experience, but not a great one either. Perhaps I am just too used to the noise and hole-in-the-wall feel that is Binh Duong I, but dining here felt kind of stark and cold even with the nicer décor. I've been craving some Vietnamese food and this hit the spot. The food is fresh and authentic. However they don't use nearly as much fish sauce as what you'd find in Vietnam which is fine with me. Fish sauce is an acquired taste that I've yet to acquire. The summer rolls have a fresh snap and excellent taste. The Pho (pronounced "fuh") soups are great. Everything about Binh Duong II is SUPERB! I used to live in Huntington Beach, CA which borders the town of Westminster that is home to the largest Vietnamese population in the United States. To say I was spoiled with authentic and amazingly flavored dishes would be an understatement. When I moved to Union, NJ one of the things I missed the most from living in California was PHO and the whole experience that comes with it. When I stumbled across Binh Duong II, it's as if the food gods had answered my prayers. The flavor of their bone broth is unparalleled to anywhere else I have tried on the East Coast. Their portions are GENEROUS, their flavors are BOLD, and their Vietnamese coffee is STRONG. This has become my go-to place and I have turned all of my friends, family and many of my clients into Binh Duong believers. You can find me in the far back table 2-3 times a month indulging in spring & summer rolls and an XL #15 (add vegetables). The peanut sauce here is the best I have ever had and everything is fresh, fast, and filling. I've passed this spot for mmmmm 30yrs. Well to be honest I wasn't into different foods for the majority of this time but aaaaaanyway. This food is original. It's tasty! It's not hard to get to...when the GPS says you've arrived (hillside high school behind you) it's in the shopping strip on your left...right on the corner. It's small inside so we went for lunch. Ordering was easy but you can tell the young lady was inexperienced so don't hold that against her. It seemed like dad was running the shiw....and the kitchen. If you're familiar with Binh Duong in Bloomfield, then you'd be happy to know they opened a second location in Hillside. It is located in a strip mall (by A&J Seabra's) along Liberty Ave. I've been a frequent customer here since they've opened and taken over the old Siagon Grill. We always get the spring rolls on every visit..can't get enough of them honestly. Typically, I either get pho (rare beef or pork chop) or the grilled pork chop with rice. The broth of the pho is very good and flavorful. They definitely are one of the best pho in NJ (if not, the best). I've also had their curry chicken with baguette, egg noodles with fish balls and. They have a pretty extensive menu that I have yet to tackle more dishes (especially since I just can't help but get my usual) but I don't think you can go wrong with anything from here. I've frequently thought about wanting Binh Duong food in the past but didn't want to have to drive 20 minutes away. Now, I can get great Vietnamese food just 2 minutes away from me! The fried rolls that came with the vermicelli pork platter were too heavy on garlic for me and very greasy. The spring roll was ok but not enough peanut sauce--I'd say ask for extra. Disclaimer: went on a Friday night, around 8PM, so the place was fairly busy. My initial impression is good; the restaurant is clean and the decorations are welcoming. After we walked in, we waited a bit and were directed to an empty table. The waiter came over after around 10 minutes to take our order: a vermicelli with grilled pork, house combo pho, salted lemonade, and vietnamese coffee. We didn't see any of the food until 45 minutes later. The drinks didn't even come in a timely fashion - they took 35 minutes to get to us, and even when they did, we received a thai iced tea instead of the coffee. The boba in the tea tasted old and not chewy. Once the food came, we were further disappointed. The vermicelli came in a rectangular block that, when you tried to pick it up, broke and came off in a chunk. It tasted ok, but that is most likely attributable to the sauce. The pho came out soon after but lacked any of the meat that I had ordered. Instead, I received a chicken pho that was honestly lacking in the chicken department, because I could only find around 5 small pieces floating around in the bowl. The pho was alright, but I couldn't finish it due to the thicker-than-normal layer of oil on the top. Overall, would not go again.
