Called on May 2nd at 12:05 PM to ask if they carried mushroom coral and any floating plants. The person who answered (I believe his name was Eddie, not deserving of being remembered) confirmed they had multiple types of mushroom coral. When I asked separately about floating plants like duckweed or red root floaters, his tone became condescending. He pointed out that I was asking about a saltwater coral and a freshwater plant, as if I intended to keep them together, rather than considering I might have two different aquariums. I had simply asked two separate questions. He then stated they are a strictly saltwater store. I thanked him, and he abruptly hung up without saying anything back. Not a great customer service experience. Take your business elsewhere where. read more

Awesome staff if you got an issue or need help with your tank go there there was a guy saying they only promote themselves but they have helped me countless times even during emergencies I have spent thousands of dollars there and will continue to. There prices are great and make sure to clean there tanks so there are no dead fish sometimes it happens throughout the day and they have really nice frags. Bio reef is one of the best saltwater stores you can visit! They have the best variety of species that I have came across, you can find just about anything that you might be looking for! It's been a year are so since my last visit to any aquatic stores. I have 5 aquariums outstanding and keep growing, I haven't had any reason to go. I was surprised that the store was not quite clean as it use to be with some dead fish. But what got my attention was the salesman. If you don't buy this then it's wrong. Then goes on you can do it this way but it's not humane. I have to command the manager or owner on teaching their employees on how to make a sale. Buy from us are its wrong. read more

These guys have it down. I was amazed at all of their livestock and setups. It's hard to find any place that seems to be so proactive with treating their fish, and their coral collection (especially the SPS selection) is second to none, and these guys have a gift for aquascaping on a level I have hardly ever seen outside of a book or magazine. read more

I must have spent an hour and a half in this compact saltwater fish store. I was looking for the perfect companion for my extremely lonely clownfish 'Jerry'. His brother 'Tom' had gone to the swirly whirly and had been flushed straight up to saltwater fish heaven. I wasn't quite sure which fish would be nice to Jerry. I didn't want any newcomers to the tank to want Jerry sushi anytime soon, so I was pleased to discover that Bio Reef's staff was completely knowledgeable on each and every fish in their warehouse. Which I might add is a saltwater tank owner's dream. They have a great assortment of fish, seahorses, anemone, sponge, starfish, a lot of live coral and shrimp. Not to mention, saltwater tank maintenance assistance and really beautiful tank cabinetry. The gal that helped me was incredibly friendly and helpful. She did suggest two beautiful, and clownfish friendly, Pink Anthias buddies to keep my buddy Jerry company. Stock looks good and some of the staff are nice but the little hipster guy who they rely on to answer questions is a condescending know-it-all. Went one time to ask about some equipment I'd bought there in the past and he ripped me because he said he had a photographic memory and he didn't remember me so i must not have bought it there. He then told me the same dumb entrapment joke about sea foam being fish waster. Went back again recently and he told me he never heard of anyone having to replace a certain part that i needed and didn't offer to help me order it. Told me to contact the supplier. Well I'll do that and you don't have to worry about me ever coming again to purchase anything there. The 2nd star is for the other nice employees and decent looking stock but the service from their expert is enough to ruin the experience. Let me know when he's gone. read more

Hugely disappointed with this place.! First of all, we were extremely good customers of Bio Reef, we have spent thousands of dollars here buying, fish, coral, food and many mechanical supplies. We travel from St. Augustine to this place , meanwhile passing many other stores that we could have chosen to spend our money with. We purchased. Hydra fifty two HD light less than 30 days ago and from day one the light has not been working properly. The day we purchased the light, Max told us if you have any problems with it you can just bring it back. Ok, we'll this customarily how it works with a return at a retail business. However, the day we purchased it, we were having trouble programming it, we called Mac and he said it was a programmer error! We continued to study and program this light to no avail. Set and david times for lights to turn on and off and set the lighting, saved everything we programmed the light continued to turn on and off continuously over a 24 hour period and the fan stopped working and was heating up and getting extremely hot. We use a service to clean our tank and as they were cleaning out tank, they noticed it too and immediately removed it and suggested we return it to Bio Reef. We requested a refund as this light just didn't seem to live up to the high expectations that Max suggested why we should purchase this particular more expensive light than the one we originally were interested in. We spoke to Max at Bio Reef and we still have the receipt and the box and everything that was in the box, barely used, under 30 days since date of purchase. Max stated that there will be no refund given and we must contact the manufacturer. This was not what we were told when we purchased the light. The light was $667.00 and we want our money back which they refuse to do so. At this point we have contacted the manufacturer they will not give a refund either they only want to send us another light, which we do not want. Consumers should have the right to return or exchange and item that does not work properly or even if they decide they just don't want it, as long as it is in good condition as it was when you purchased it and in a timely manner. They did not seem to care either way that we were disappointed nor they were good customers who spend a lot of money with them and would have continued to do so and refer other people to make purchases at their store. I will never do business with these people and I will tell everyone not to shop here. They lie and they don't stand behind their word, they are only out to get your money and do not care about what happens to your purchase once you walk out the door! read more

Husband and I started a small reef tank not too long ago (less than six month?) Bio Reef is where we purchased our first round of live rock, live sand, etc to set up the tank. The people there are very friendly and helpful. We've been going back regularly and have always enjoyed our visits there. Great store, great selection, great service! read more

I have shopped at BioReef since Jack owned the store some years ago . Jack did our aquarium maintenance as well. Loved this store and have spent thousands of dollars here happily over the past 8 years . What changed ? The "new" owners are arrogant and rude ! We were in the store asking questions about some new additions for our reef tank. The young "hipster" acted like we were total idiots and began explaining biology to me. I taught college biology and nicely explained that I was quite familiar with the nitrogen cycle etc.... He proceeds to treat my husband and I like children as he continues imparting his "vast knowledge " . I figured he was just a poorly chosen staff member , since I have had never experience this service (?) in hundreds of visits. I waited a few days... Called the store to speak with "an owner" to share our poor experience . This same guy answers the phone and confirms he is an owner. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt , perhaps he was having a bad day . NOPE! Again on the phone he continues to act like an arrogant ass. I explained I will be taking my business elsewhere and I did . It is a real shame after 8 years of driving 2 hours to shop here . These guys need to learn about customer service . On a positive note, we found a new store that has been fabulous with designing the custom tanks for our office and new home. Sorry BioReef... BIG mistake , HUGE... I have been still doing business with Bio Reef for many years now. I have had some bad experiences but mostly good to great since. Now I did went in again today in search of another fish for my saltwater tank. They had a large selection but I'm looking for a certain fish. Which one I'm not sure maybe the one that waves at me. Or the one that speaks to me but not a Nemo or Dory. I will find the one but I will say that their fish do look quite healthy and the place is clean and doesn't smell like a fish market either. read more

I will not shop at Bio reef again. I recently purchased a fish and added it to my established tank and it died three days later. I asked the person who worked there if they would replace it. (not a super rare fish, it cost $40). They would not replace the fish and told me that my water was probably bad. I have 8 other fish, numerous corals and inverts, all doing fine, the water was tested the day of the purchase so probably not the reason for the dead fish. I have in the past justified spending 30% more at the store than purchasing online because I value local fish store expertise and assumed that I would also have better service. Needless to say I will not shop there. I will take my business online or to the other LFS. Buyer beware, you will not only pay much more shopping there, but if you do have a problem, you will not get any type of service after the sale. read more
