This bake shop was down the street from our airBnB and had lots of yummy choices. We enjoyed the almond tea cake and the sesame cake. We got there about 15 min after it opened, and some locals were already there and multiple others came in after us to buy treats to go so definitely seems to be a popular spot even though it's further away from the other shops and restaurants. read more

Birchgrove Baking is my favorite place to go for pastries and lattes! Their croissants are absolutely divine and so are the ginger maple lattes !! Some of my other favorites are the Frangipane Tart, Peppadew & Feta Scones, Chocolate & passion fruit layer cake, and all cookie varieties! I absolutely love going to Birchgrove when I'm in Montpelier! The place is so cute and always decorated adorably!!!! Their lattes are the best in town and very reasonably priced. I have a gluten allergy and their gf selection is very tasty. I love the chocolate lemon bar and the sesame bar! I got the orange almond cake today and my mind was blown! So delicious and flavorful. This is the go to place for a excellent maple latte! Forget capitol grounds! The employees are always so nice (they refer to you by your name). My drink is always made right and it does not taste like warm milk! It's the perfect combo of espresso and steamed milk. Thanks birchgrove! read more

The previous bakery in this location (the name escapes me) had some of the most incredible pastries I've ever had in my life. Birchgrove continues this tradition. On a cool but sunny morning, I was guided through the backstreets of Montpelier to this charming and excellent bakery. Inside, my eye was greeted by clean and fresh colors and a cheerful staff. We purchased stuffed croissants, and a ever-so-tender scone with a delicate texture. The coffee was delicious and hot. We sat out front, and as we enjoyed this repast, I watched the relaxed customers come and go like so many happy moths attracted to a warm light on the front porch. We got our wedding cakes from Birchgrove and they were fabulous! We had a coconut one and a chocolate raspberry. Both were excellent but we heard non stop compliments on the coconut. I love Birchgrove and highly recommend. Staff was always helpful and available. read more

Birch Grove Bakery is a charming small bakery, with not-so-friendly people working behind the counter. I can't comment on their baked goods because I've only ordered their espresso drinks. I had The redeye and my wife had a double cappuccino. Both were quite good after a weekend of not being able to find any good coffee in Stowe. We stopped in on our way back to Boston after seeing it on yelp. We also tried a cookie which had hazelnuts, chocolate, and espresso in it which was really tasty. read more

I was in the middle of my Thanksgiving road trip from Boston to Montreal to see family when I looked up this place in Montpelier that was open Thanksgiving morning. As there was already snow all over the place, this store that was 1) open, and 2) with a storefront lined with condensation from all the bread yeasts sighing inside, was a welcome sight. The interior was very adorable, lined with the now-requisite coffeehouse tchochkies, and wouldn't be out of place in P-Town for example. I had a double espresso and chocolate croissant, both of which were very well made, and even bought some chocolate almonds as gifts. Additionally the staff were very friendly. Stopped by for the first time this morning for coffee and a scone and was so disappointed. The coffee was fine, but the scone was absolutely gross. There was a strange aftertaste like too much baking powder or something. Two bites in I found a giant hair baked into it, but honestly I was grateful for the excuse not to finish it even though I was super hungry. Everything looked beautiful so I suppose I would only go back if I wanted something decorative. :( read more
