When it came time to transition to another orthodontist, there was minimal support: no detailed handoff notes, no clear explanation of treatment options going forward, and little guidance for continuing care. Taking on a multi-year treatment commitment like braces so close to retirement, without disclosing that timeline or planning for a proper transition, felt like a serious lack of integrity toward patients who were trusting him with ongoing care. He is a kind man who truly cares about his patience and their health. His staff was/is also very friendly and they do try to remember personal things about you to make the visits a little more warm. I also appreciated all the other small things they did for their kid patients such as monthly games, for example guessing how many balls were in a jar. There were various things you could win, like movie tickets. At least you would leave the office each time with some hope that you could potentially win a prize even as your teeth are sore from your braces being tightened. With these added treats, you can tell Dr. Aki and his staff cared about the overall experience. I loved my end results and anyone who had braces would say it's worth the pain, inconvenience, and $$$. However, I did wish I was more consistent with wearing my retainers every night the years right after coming off braces. My teeth have definitely shifted a bit but they are still in great shape! I've received compliments from my dentist and dentist friends that he did a good job. I saw Dr. Aki recently just to do a quick check-in with my retainers and mouth guard situation. Thankfully my teeth are still looking good! I'm also glad to see that he is still in business despite the rough year coming out of the pandemic. The tech they use here is pretty new with nice cameras to take picture of you and a 3D teeth scan tool. The person who helped with my X-rays and scans (Ashley?) had really great bedside manner with good commentary about what she was doing and what she wanted me to do next. Dr Yoo saw me afterwards and mapped a plan out after some examination. She seemed to know what she was doing but also would've been nice to have her ask if I had any questions. Her assistance Darlene did leave me her contact if I needed any assistance. It was clear to me what the expectations for cost was and the next steps. D) Because of this other terrible Dental office, I always had issues taking him to ANY dentist from that point forward.... abd we tried MANY. But of course my insurance changed who was authorized to treat ppl on that insurance and then the dr left so we had to start all over. I though OH NO HERE WE GO AGAIN!!! They have a few different locations. We live over on the other side of the bay so with traffic, travel time can be crazy. But even if that's the case it's well worth it. I want to make it very clear that I stand by my previous review of the dental assistants and care team. During my cleaning, especially as someone who was anxious about being at the dentist, the staff was kind, welcoming, professional, and made me feel comfortable. I have nothing negative to say about the team that provided my cleaning and initial care. However, what happened at my follow-up appointment for my wisdom tooth extractions was extremely disappointing. PATIENT BEWARE. I had already scheduled my wisdom tooth extraction appointment as a follow-up to my cleaning because my wisdom teeth are causing me significant pain. I showed up expecting to have the treatment I had scheduled. Instead, I was told that the extractions would not be performed unless I agreed to bone grafting. My insurance did not cover the bone grafting, and the office requested $1,900 CASH for two bone grafts, with no tax, because the procedure was not covered by my insurance. I was not comfortable paying thousands of dollars out of pocket for an additional procedure that I did not believe was necessary. When I declined the bone grafting, my wisdom teeth were not extracted, despite the fact that this was the appointment I had specifically scheduled for the extractions and I am experiencing significant pain. I was also concerned that Dr. Bhogal would not proceed with treatment without personally examining my teeth, and I left feeling that I was being denied the extraction I had scheduled because I would not agree to pay the additional out-of-pocket cost for bone grafting. The entire experience was incredibly frustrating. I went through the initial cleaning, scheduled the follow-up specifically to have my painful wisdom teeth removed, and then arrived for that appointment only to be told the extractions would not happen unless I agreed to pay $1,900 cash for two bone grafts. I want to emphasize again: THIS IS NOT A REFLECTION OF THE DENTAL ASSISTANTS OR THE CARE TEAM. I stand by my previous review and the positive things I said about them. They were welcoming, compassionate, and made me feel comfortable despite my dental anxiety. My concerns are specifically about how my scheduled extraction appointment and the requirement for additional out-of-pocket bone grafting were handled. PATIENT BEWARE. If you are told you need an additional procedure that insurance will not cover and are asked to pay a significant amount out of pocket, ask questions, request a clear explanation of why it is necessary, and consider getting a second opinion before agreeing to anything. I came in expecting treatment for painful wisdom teeth. I left without the extractions I had scheduled and extremely disappointed with how the situation was handled.
