    Potato skins
    Xavier M.

Good food: we had the potato skins and the pulled pork tray with mac 'n' cheese. Service was solid, although it slowed a bit as it got closer to closing time. No worries there. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable with games to play and TVs to watch sports. Good experience and value. Recommend.

Corned Duck Reuben Special (with sauerkraut)
    Marty T.

A friend recommended this as a dinner stop before wrapping up my Sunday in Ashland, and I enjoyed my corned duck sandwich, which was served on Reuben bread with sauerkraut, which was listed as a special on the chalkboard menu to the right of the back wall as you enter. It was quiet around six pm; the basketball game was playing on the large screen on the other back wall, and the music was not too loud. The deviled egg appetizer came out very quickly (you get four halves) and both that and the hush puppies, which followed soon after came with a couple of pickle slices each, which I appreciated. My friend's Cubano and my sandwich were both amazing. Service was great.

Duck Legs / Nashville Hot Style

Fantastic spot off 2nd St in Ashland. I was jonesin for some Nashville Hot Chicken and they had that and then some. Special was Duck Legs (I choose the Nashville style), on point. Popcorn Chicken was a healthy serving, Half Chicken cooked to perfection. Deviled / Pickled Eggs presented very well, Brisket on Point Not one complaint. Plus : best whiskey section in town.

Great service, we had a non alcoholic IPA along with their brisket tray. The brisket reminded me of a Tri tip and was delicious. The collard greens were perfect. My husband had not had hush puppies before and was delighted. So glad we found this spot while passing by from California.

This place checks all the boxes, great service, great food, great ambiance. Definitely a must if you are looking for something special and unique. I've eaten here a few times now and they are consistently excellent in every category. A foodie bucket list item for sure. Prices are very reasonable.

Tiny place with a big takeout business. Eat at the bar because no tables. One lady running the front, one guy cooking and some in the back coming out to help clean. Not fast, but friendly, clean and nice. Most importantly the food was great! Really think slice of ham on the Cuban and the brisket was very tender, no sauce needed.

Food is great, staff is pleasant, definitely worth stopping in. Also got a side salad that paired well. Super chill playlist was a nice touch.

Fried chicken was very crispy and cooked well. A tad on salty side for my preference. Devil eggs were good. It was one of few places still open.

We went in at dinner time on a Thursday. We were seated right away without a reservation, but you can make one online. I could see them being busy on a weekend or a busier part of the season. There are tables for groups from 2-6. They also had some pinball and other games in the back (as well as some board games in a side room). We didn't find out the ins and outs of the games, but it makes it feel like a place you are welcome to stay at for a while. They had a great kids menu. Our girls both wanted pizza and the observant server recommended they share a pizza because they are not small. It was accurate and kept us from having a whole leftover pizza, even though the prices were reasonable and it would have been a good value. The two adults shared the spicy cauliflower from the appetizer menu and the quesacarnitas tacos. Both were seasoned well, very flavorful, and all around delicious. The cauliflower wasn't super spicy, but it was super tasty so we weren't mad. The place is a brewery but we had cocktails. My husband said it was the best margarita he had on our trip and tasted like it was made with quality ingredients. My Paloma was also good! Overall, we were super pleased with our visit. Gluten free items are marked clearly and there is also a gluten free bun and pizza crust to choose from. Highly recommend before or after a play or a day of shopping in the Main Street area of Ashland.

Before coming, like most girlies do, I checked the menu before coming in and I was wanting the Peruvian Bowl since it was on their website but I was told they didn't have it. The front told us we can sit wherever but after sitting there I realized we had no menus. So after another 10-15 min I literally went up to the hostess stand and grabbed it myself.... The Buddha bowl was my second choice and it was very good and tasted nice and fresh! Chicken was cooked/seasoned nicely too! My husbands sandwich was really good and he loved the fries. The building was so hot. I was sweating on my seat! Woo it's hot here. Our server, Ruben, was great! He was also the bartender, and food runner, and busser. Kind of ridiculous of the establishment to allow this of one person. If you're the manager/owner. This doesn't look good. For the look of the place and prices this should not be the case. Luckily, he handled it well and did awesome. He deserves a raise!

I love that the restaurant store front is opened wide, it makes it easy to approach and order at the counter. They have a very large variety of alcoholic drink options and some very tasty non alcoholic options as well. Even though we sat outside about 5 tables down, they still came by to deliver our food to us instead of having us waiting inside. The food was amazing. Meat was juicy, bread was perfect, both the sides of fries and house made chips were delicious. The ranch tasted like it was house made as well but I forgot to ask them. My cider was great and my partner got a strawberry slushy- both did not disappoint. The overall theme inside is adorable! It's got a lot of wooden pieces and a camping trailer inside really ties the theme together nicely. There is plenty of tables and shade outside and lots of indoor seating as well. Bathrooms are super clean and clearly well maintained by the folded toilet paper roll. The only thing I will say is if you're going to sit outside expect outside things to happen. There was a lot of flying debris from around the creek due to someone down the way doing outdoor maintenance. Despite this, my partner and I thought it was worth it to hear the running water and be in such a beautiful area for lunch. I would scream my recommendation from the roof top if I could. Thank you for a great meal!

First, Ashland is a great LOCATION to grab a bite before braving the mountain passes on either side. Within the town the Skout building is LOCATED at the edge of the creek and beautiful Lithia park, and finally the Skout LOCATION itself is a building comfortably decorated with a camping themed ambiance. We ordered the Ultra Meltathon (grilled cheese), a Brisket sandwich, and truffle fries. The Skout version of a grilled cheese, augmented with bacon and jam, was the standout for us. The thin cut and crispy truffle fries were also very good and were gobbled up quickly. On the other hand the brisket was a bit dry but serviceable today rather than a standout. Maybe add some bbq sauce to elevate it a bit? I loved the curated craft beers on tap so check these out if so inclined. See the pics for a glimpse of the roll-up door window that opens to the park, the inside tables and camper, and of course the food. Probably a 4.5 but rounded to 5 stars because of ... location, location, location!

When it came it was too sweet and I tried to tell the waiter that and he threw an absolute fit and asked us to leave, saying I was being rude. We were shocked. Neither my friend nor I thought I was being rude. I didn't say or do anything offensive. When I asked how I was being rude, the waiter's response was, "do you hear yourself?" I even apologized and said if I had offended somehow, I was sorry. My friend said she didn't think I was being rude. As we rose to leave, I told the waiter maybe he was too sensitive and that was the problem. He kept yelling at me to look at myself in the mirror. The cook had our food ready and was about to give it to us and I said we were leaving because the waiter was kicking us out, and the cook's response was "good." He hadn't even been there. The waiter obviously had a huge insecurity chip on his shoulder to be so rude to a paying customer for some imagined slight. But then I messaged the owner and she gave me some BS about "heartfelt" apologies. I asked if we could come have the meal that we were denied and her response was "All things considered, I think it best you explore another Ashland dining experience." Then I saw all the one star reviews on Yelp and her exact same "heartfelt" response to all of them while absolutely nothing changed, and I realized the problem is the owner. She doesn't care about customer experience. The staff act the way they do because she allows it. Any other restaurant would have offered dessert or appetizers or something to make up for the bad experience, which is what good restaurants do. I am 63 and have eaten at restaurants all over the world, and never been treated like this. But obviously other restaurants have higher standards for their staff and themselves. There are too many restaurants where people are courteous and accommodating, especially to customers with health issues, to put up with the low standards at this place. We went next door to Green Leaf and were able to ask for modifications in the menu and treated with the utmost care. And to the owner, please don't bother with your standard response of communicating our concerns to your staff, etc., etc. We are perfectly aware of what that's worth.

In the spirit of oncoming summer, I started with the gin and tonic, which I renamed the pink sucker punch. It's a tasty drink that surpasses the staid English go to for old farts. Had the Gems salad, which was a well rounded bowl of delights -- radishes, avocado, gem lettuce in a house vinaigrette that hums. We then went to the crisp, which was fine but not extraordinary -- blame it on my indifference to rhubarb, which I've always found nothing more than a way to confuse strawberries. For the "main" course we had the fried chicken, which came as a huge serving of four beautifully crisp pieces of juicy breast meat coated in a nicely spiced Aleppo chili breading and coated in just enough of "Ted's" honey to make a bee weep but not so much as to enrage the queen. The Calabrian cream sauce will Make you weep because it's so good. On my night, the chef had prepared a pickled fennel slaw that was the star of the dish. I without shame asked for more. It was such a nice touch. Bravo. I paired my chicken with a 2022 Fuchs & Hase 'Pet Nat Vol II' bubbly that stood up nicely to the complexity of the chicken. Our server was so smart, knowledgeable and funny and a treat to interact with. I wish I could clone her and take he with me to every restaurant meal. As a chef at two James Beard-winning restaurants, a server, owner, and consultant, I have dedicated my life to the food industry and the people within it. I'm from Ashland, and I was so happy when places like this started showing up in my hometown. Good food and atmosphere can be so hard to find. Coming home to Ashland can be a true oasis for my family. My wife and I have made it our life's mission to make our daughter feel equal and included. Our daughter was born with a rare condition called AMC and does not have normal function in any of her limbs. She currently spends 3-4 days a week in physical therapy to continue building strength so her body and organs can function properly. We were visiting family at the park and suggested stopping in for a beverage and snacks to escape the heat after a long day. We typically plan everything ahead to ensure wherever we go can accommodate my daughter's wheelchair and needs. When we arrived, we thought, "Wow, perfect, she can wheel right in and up to one of the many open tables." Once we were "greeted" by the host, I realized we were not who she wanted to deal with. Three kids, three adults, a stroller, and a wheelchair. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with us, like we were dirt on her shoe. "No reservation," she said. I replied, "Yeah, so sorry, we figured since it was a Monday night right when you opened, and there were only two two-tops seated, we could probably find somewhere to sit." I reassured her we would not stay long enough to impact reservations at the larger front tables, which usually have reserved markers on them but did not at the time. We could all feel that she didn't want to seat us, and we left despite me practically begging to make something work for us, because I know she could have if she wanted to. Being from the industry, I understand what kids can do to an atmosphere, and I know a lot of restaurant workers don't enjoy dealing with other people's children. But when we went outside and my daughter cried and said, "They didn't want me there" So I loaded my daughter's wheelchair back into the car so I could carry her up the stairs at Brickroom, where one employee was working the entire place and took amazing care of us, I might add. We resorted to a booster seat for my daughter since she couldn't use her wheelchair there. She ended up falling out of the seat and slamming onto the hardwood floor. She cried and was embarrassed. The young man tending bar while also waiting every table rushed over with a bag of ice to comfort her. It was honestly touching how kind he was. When we left Brickroom, we had spent more time there than we originally intended to spend at Bar Juliet. As we walked back by Bar Juliet, we noticed the restaurant was still only about half full, and one of the large front tables had remained open the entire time from around 4:10 until 5:40 when we walked by again. I had to stop and ask the host why she couldn't have seated us considering that table never filled. Her only explanation was, "Our kitchen is slow getting food out." Such an incredibly weak excuse. I hope she understands she was wrong and that she made my daughter feel unwanted simply because accommodating us wasn't convenient for her. I have never left a review in my life, but I was so saddened and disgusted by this experience that I felt I had to.
